Hello Katarina, thanks for this video.
The problem that I've been facing from a long time(maybe 10 years now) is that I just cant talk loudly. It is ok when I'm talking with someone who's right beside me but I really struggle in a noisier setting, when I take part in team sports(where I need to communicate with someone far away but cant) and in parties. I've seen people around me talk loudly with ease and this has affected my confidence a lot. If I try too hard to do this, my voice hurts and ends up cracking as well. What should I do? Thanks again 🙂

I'm sorry to hear you're dealing with this issue, I totally understand it and also how it can affect us more personally. The important thing is for you to know that it's possible to learn how to project the voice and develop a more powerful and easy sound. If you want more info about coaching, please let me know. In the meantime, you could try to explore some of the exercises I've shared here with straws or tubes, they would make you feel more resonant with less effort.

I find myself always speaking in the lowest parts of my range and my throat feels tense and almost always dipping into vocal fry. I have tried doing everything from massages, exercises, support, raising the soft palate, speaking in a higher register, and forward placement. They have all worked, but temporarily, the last three are things I do consistently only when singing, lol. Please advise!

I am sorry to hear about your vocal troubles. The same way, you use those techniques in your singing consistently, use some of the strategies in your speaking voice consistently. It's a matter of re-learning the way you speak into motor patterns that are healthy and don't invite tension.

Also, are you breathing through your diaphragm? While speaking, if I don’t back the sound with breath, I sound deep and raspy (vocal fry, not a charming rasp) and my volume ends up too high or low 😭 but just breathing through diaphragm has helped the sound for me. Just needing to work on the remaining tension in throat 😅

So I have been a metal vocalist for about 10 years now or so, and I did end up seeing a Vocal specialist a number of years ago since I wanted to just make sure I hadnt completely messed up my voice (I was always feeling hoarse, or sore). Luckily there was no damage or tension when I was growling or screaming, but there was when I was speaking normally. They suggested vocal therapy, i just didnt have the money or insurance for it at the time,
But the hoarseness if coming back again. I may make an appointment to get checked again to be safe and then see about actually doing the therapy this time too.

Hi! Thank you for this video!! I'm a 16yr girl and I've always thought my voice sounded like I'm naturally forcing it deeper than it actually could be. Sometimes I experience alot of pain in my throat when speaking and cant speak because it takes too much force and air from my throat. I notice I pull my head back and down to speak easier when that happens. I've always been told I have a very whispery and deep/weak voice as well. I havent noticed a difference yet with these exercises. Do you have any advice?

Hey Katrina. It’s not physical pain per say, but when I speak to others, I notice that my throat tightens up, and I think it’s a learned behavior that I developed when I tried replicating an American accent to fit in. I now how problems getting rid of this tightness when I speak to others, and it only loosens up when I talk to family, but my Indian accent comes out then. How do I fix this?

It's training. It's like learning a new language. You start small - jut words or even sounds without tension and then you slowly increase the complexity of the tasks to sentences etc. Finding ways to make sounds without tension is the first step. I have a lot of videos on that topic.

@@healthyvoicetips Thank you for your response dear 😍,
Starting doctor said vocal nodule is there but no need of surgery now as that is very small. And advised to steam daily, given medicine for some gastric trouble (actually don't know why those tablets )
I did steam for 2 months used that tablets for gastric issue too. Then he said nodule is regressed, but I said still I have same issue I'm unable to sing comfortably. Then doctor said vocal cards are strained when you yelled and talked while crying at your home. So, drink hot water before singing and avoid long raagaas and aalaaps while singing, long sentenses while talking also. Then adviced to go for thyroid test I did test and scan both, they were normal(my throat appears Little swelling normally also, I don't know why)
This is what happened, I'm not sure of voice therapy and all, if we undergo voice therapy can we recover completely??there are no such therapy centers in and around my village.
Sorry for the long message 🙏

This is me, with a lot of throat pain, too. It began with some sort of infection, but developed into a chronic condition. I went to the ENT who did larygoscopy twice over a period of months and found no structural problems, had me take strong antacid meds (just guessing), ordered a barium swallow xray that was negative, and finally decided to send me to a speech therapist. But by then I had spent so much money out of pocket that was not covered by insurance on his tests that I couldn't afford the speech therapy. I have made some improvements by watching videos like yours on youtube, for which I am grateful, but it has been nearly a year with this condition now.

You can always do gentle vocal exercises, alignment exercises, resonance exercises during this period of voice change. Your voice is still going to change. With these exercises you are training the new coordination of the muscles. Be patient!

im actually not big of a singer but my throat is tight and pains when i talked much at work. And then i dont want to talk because it doesnt feel good. I feel pressure on the 2 balls in the back of my mouth (sorry im not a native english speaker) as well then.
And generally i often dont feel so happy at the same time then.
Could it have something to do with the situation i talk in?
After some time the tightness eases and it feels normals again.
But even when i just talk with friends for a longer time it feels the same way. I didnt have this when i was in school.

Good day, Dear Katarina! I have a problem as follows: when I have spoken for half an hour, I start to lose my low notes and have an increasing sore throat as I go on speaking. My fondest dream is opera singing, though. Is this curable? After an hour or two of silence my low notes get back to me afresh, and the timbre becomes way richer. Is this a pathology? Or incorrect technique. I've attempted many ways to speak/sing in a more relaxed way. But thr result is the same

Sometimes, during thyroid operation, the nerve that innervate the larynx get damaged and many cause vocal issues. Speak to a laryngologist to see what is going on.

Hi Muzan, this is a good question. Your parents are probably right but it does not mean that if you are worried and it is affecting how you feel about yourself, it should be ignored. I think that talking to a voice specialist would make you understand better what is happening with your voice and that you are safe to use it. I would recommend to speak to someone so that you can trust your voice again and use it with confidence.

I've been everywhere trying to get a solution, nothing helps. I've been to 3 different ENT doctors. I've had the 24 hours tube recorder through my nose in my stomach to watch my digestive system. I've had the catheter through my nose down to my vocal cord. And all results came back negative. They can't find nothing wrong. Everything looks great. I've done speech therapy. Seen like nothing is working. I know they are missing something because my voice is still strained. Some days I can't speak at all. Some days it's really great and then it will switch to voice gone. I am so frustrated. I would truly love to know what is the problem. I don't want to just give up on my voice. I want to sing again. That's how it started. Singing in the choir. I would be greatly honored if you could help me. My email address is: smiem4@aol.com.
