I'm a big fan of this character. He only appeared on the show once but he's definitely one of my favourites. I'm glad that Super7 didn't wait too long to do this character. I knew he'd be a good one to do in Ultimates because he has a very toyetic design and big scary monsters are always fun to have in toy form. I'm looking forward to this figure, it looks cool and the artwork on the back of the box is cool too, probably the best we've seen. It looks like a heavy metal album cover.
It's funny how you mentioned about the heavy metal album cover because I watched this video without sound the first time around. I'm just listening to it now and yes, you are right, that head is very much like 'Night Of The Demon', which is a film that I liked a lot when I saw it. I don't think the vintage figure looked that scary and I was so young at the time, that I didn't make the connection between him and the devil. Parents may have noticed it because that figure became a peg warmer. Everytime I saw Thundercats figures in a store, he was always available. I'm not sure if demon panic was as much of a thing over here as in the US but there was a panic over nunchucks. The UK probably had a bigger problem with the likes of Michelangelo and Panthro than they did Mongor. Mongor might have been an issue for the more religious people, but then again, a lot of religious people don't believe that Satan was a goat-man. Mongor probably didn't sell because he wasn't a regular character in the show. Some kids would not have known who he was and the vintage figure didn't really do that character justice. Mongor is very much like Baphomet. The scythe just adds to the idea that he is here to take your life, very much like the grim reaper but he's also going to take your soul back to hell with him. Designing a character like this for a cartoon back then was a bold move. It's not like a cartoon red devil with a pitchfork. That was never scary, more like a parody of the dark lord but this guy feeds into the idea of Satan being a beast. Of course, you are right about how evil is more likely to present itself in a form that is pleasing to the eye. That's often the trap. Did you say you touched him up? No wonder he's screaming at you. Tbf, I think that purple wash has improved the overall look of the figure, as well as the other additions.
Great sculpt work but the paint, articulation and loose joints are always lacking. They try and tell us thats the amount they can do but every other company surpass them and usually for a better price. As long as your happy with im glad. I was gonna buy Snarf and Hachiman but seeing all the shortcuts they took im gonna pass. Hope all is well with you and Thor
The Grune figure had those wobbly legs too, as did some of the TMNT Ultimates. The hooves were clearly a bridge too far with this character. The absence of them is probably how they got away with it because that way it is easier to deny that he's the devil, even though he clearly is. He also reminds me of something from an ancient Greek myth, like the Minotaur for example.

I don't think he'd take kindly to those macaroni haircuts that people have adopted either and you just know he would have hated the original Bieber cut.
With Nightmare On Elm Street, they went more down the Paedo root with the remake. It's vile but probably more realistic seeing as how there are paedos all over the place. They only hinted at it in the original but I prefer the original because I don't think there was any need to go that deep into it. With the remake, they had to do something to make it a little bit different from the original. Leatherface was horrible btw. My favourite slashers are Jason Voorhees and Michael Myers.
