I had this album on 'tape cassette' in the 80s, I had never heard anything like it before and loved the idea of modern songs being sung in an old style.
I just met Don one of the band members and he burned me a CD. Wow! I spent the rest of the afternoon searching and listening. Superb and a hell of lot of fun.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for posting this song! I have looked for this song for many years, my mother liked it so much (we heard it on the radio long time ago), and I search all over, but couldn't finde it. Sadly my mother died 3 years ago... but I also love this song, so now I can listen to it and remember my mother with a smile on my face.
This came on either the TV or radio back in 1985 and the DJ or presenter said: you know you've really arrived [as a successful recording artist] when you've been sent up like this. My dad was like: what do you mean "sent up"? - this is a good version.
I always think that if you are going to cover a great song you have to bring something different to it rather than a note for note cover. This is clearly different and I think it was very creative. I like it a lot. And the piano is definitely "Moody River".
Think, this was on the Old Grey Whistle Test, back in the 80s. Many examples of a cover better than the original. Nostalgia, it's not what it used to be.
I bought this in ep format at the time. Other tracks were Eye of the Tiger, I Write the Songs and Bette Davis Eyes. All great but this was my best track.
The biggest gift big daddy gave me was allowing me to separate songs from their artist. For instance, I have never in my life liked Bruce Springsteen, and I still don’t. Then I heard this version of this song and realized what a good song is. I just don’t like his voice or his band or the general persona that surrounds everything he does. But hearing these goofballs made me appreciate it. Likewise, I have always despised U2. Big daddy did a cover of one of their songs and I realized how damn good it is. But the fundamental U2ness of U2 always got in the way of their songs for me. Sometimes the band gets in the way of their own material, and big daddy is great because it allowed me to remove that and just appreciate the lyrics for what they were
i remember steve wright gave this a lot of airtime on radio one back in the eighties when bruce had the origanal hit out, anyone seen sid the manager!!!!!!!!!!!
This song reminds me of my brother who died 23 years ago. Never underestimate the power of music!

and they covered all of 'Sgt.Pepper's lonely hearts club Band' in a pure stroke of genius.

God, this is a truly beautiful song.

One of the most inventive/creative BRILLIANT groups out there today BIG DADDY ROCK
This is the best version to my knowledge.
Honestly, I never realized what a good songwriter Bruce was until I heard this version of this song
Love love love. Brillant.
Much better than the original. I bought this on a Big Daddy vinyl EP...some time in the 80's...
Probably 85 might have been 86
This is a brilliant ingenious version of a great song! It takes me right back to a great time in my life ! Love big daddy :-)

a takeoff on Pat Boone--Moody River and Love Letters in The Sand..,,,these guys are the best unknown band of all time...
Big Daddy does the best version, no doubt.

Ooooh! so great to finaly find this version! I also though it will never happened! Thanks so much for this video!
An awesome song !!
Your dad has a great voice - a lot like Jimmie Rodgers but with a bit more edge, which I really like. The arrangement is ingenious!
I must own 50% of them then! Cool version! Shame there is no video, I seem to remember them doing this on The Old Grey Whistle Test...
love this version brillant
Awsum timeless :))) x
Great job
I bought this in ep format at the time.
Other tracks were Eye of the Tiger, I Write the Songs and Bette Davis Eyes.
All great but this was my best track.
Bruce Springsteen: Cover Me.
Big Daddy: I get up in the evening...
Very inventive mash-up!
Bellissima!

Take down this number boy…it’s er, 01,01….hello?hello?
I remember this track
I think Gary Davis, (Radio 1) said they were formed in America
Good DooWop version of the Boss's big hit!
This is done in the style of 50's crooner Pat Boone - hence the Moody River piano and 'On a day like today' which is Love Letters
yes indeed. i have all big daddy songs.
At least now I can hear the lyrics.
I don´t know about you but I hear "Moody River" melody...
