It's amazing the number of Florida towns that once existed in or around Withlacoochee, but not much remains today, other than a cemetery on occasion.

MY 5× Great grands were settlers in the area before the logging enterprise There was a tiny community My original great grandpa had a small general store His oldest and only surviving son left for Pa and had a auto dealership The rest of the children were female and helped in the store My grandma was taught to butcher by her dad She met my grandpa on the train to Bushnell around WWI The rest of the sisters were nurses and teachers Ive never been to the cemetery there or visited TY for this journey into what was 😊

I was in Richloam hiking and I saw a large cat with a long tail running away from me down the trail for about 4 seconds. Then it darted into the brush. I dont think it was a bobcat, the tail was quite long, I think it was a young panther.

People don't want to hear about a protected species near their property. It's bad for business.

Its amazing how "Young" the vegetation looks. Makes me think it was a flat field for a long time or has been deforested and or field burned in the past. Cool trek bro thanks for the ride.

Nice video. I would hope they would stop the development in Florida. They are ruining all the woodlands for strip malls and housing ! Ridiculous!

Very glad to see you're still at it. Sorry I never got to meet you at Myakka that one time, many years ago. I was once trailblazer on Facebook or was it myspace. So long ago.

Cool video! Around those old industrial structures watch out for basically punji pits. Often there are drainage or other rectangular concrete holes going deep into the ground, sometimes semi or completely covered by debris or foliage

Wow, I was just about a mile or two south of there last weekend. Traipsing around about a mile north of Colt Creek. I might have to go back further north and do some exploring, I live fairly close.

The walls in Peru, Mexico, Egypt, China, have stood for thousands of years. A hundred years in Florida, looks,,,,,apocalyptic 😅😂

Quite an adventure..you definitely were blazing a trail today as you got off into that thick brush. Amazing content as always and a view into Florida's past...you would have to think the first settlers into the new state saw the vast timber and terpintine riches and sought to exploit it. The old growth trees were the first to go..I often wonder if they shipped it to northern markets or was it used to build here. Your adventures never disappoint and I appreciate the hard you put into them to bring us some truly forgotten history.😎🇺🇸🚶🍊🌞🏘️🏚️🏠

I think it's sad that almost 100 years later the land hasn't recovered. You have extensive areas covered in concrete. The rain can't penetrate the ground there and replenish the water table. I think the military should be brought in to pull up a lot of that concrete and random debris and crush the concrete and recycle the metal. If Florida can recreate the floodplains of the Everglades, then why leave this mess in other places. Sure, it can be fun to explore and those bricks are cool and some could be saved. There's got to be a lot of artifacts and stuff but since large trees and swamps and other stuff used to be the rule, why not try to reestablish some nature. But realistically, this sort of stuff will happen when land is sold to developers, I guess.
