The former interpreter for the Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani, Ippei Mizuhara, has lost his other job as an Uber Eats driver.
Mizuhara was banned from delivering for Uber Eats due to his pending litigation, a spokesperson told NBC4.
"Mizuhara has been an UberEats courier for a few years. Given these recent charges, he no longer has access to the platform," said Gabriela Condarco-Quesada, with Uber Eats.

Mizuhara allegedly stole nearly $17 million from Ohtani to pay off sports gambling debts during a yearslong scheme, at times impersonating the Japanese baseball player to bankers and exploiting their personal and professional relationship. Mizuhara signed a plea agreement that detailed the allegations on May 5, and prosecutors announced it several days
Mizuhara’s plea agreement says he will be required to pay Ohtani restitution that could total nearly $17 million, as well as more than $1 million to the IRS. Those amounts could change prior to sentencing.

Commiting wire fraud has nothing to do with trust as a delivery driver. Criminals need some way to rejoin society and not be forced back into crime as the only option.
This feels wrong
Because it is
This has to be some half-ass PR stunt by Uber Eats for a driver that hasn't worked for them in years. Let's see those receipts.
Believe me it is. If they will hire my Dads ghetto ass Girlfried who was awaiting trial for Assault & Battery AND Lynching Charges, which they surely did. It’s a PR stunt.
are they sure its not some other guy named ippei mizuhara
They didn’t know he stole $17M. He could certainly keep it a secret that he was driving for Uber Eats.
Clearly, Ohtani has followed Chris Carter's instructions to the NFL rookies.
There will be 2 thought processes. #1 he needed any money he could get to cover a bet. #2 he was a contractor for Ohtani and was only paid as needed. Which would fall in line with he is Ohtani's fall guy.
Shohei has always said he sleeps at least 10 hours a day, besides eating and training Shohei will sleep to recover so, I would say Ippei has a lots of time on his own.
This feels like a story from the Onion!!
I think your questions are fair, balanced and extremely relevant. Great job as usual!
I can see him maybe doing it during the offseason as supplementary income, during the season seems hard to believe
Probably just on the roster. I started insta cart and do maybe 3 deliveries a year
I feel like there's more to this.
By all technicality, I'm still a driver for door dash even though I haven't "driven" for them for years now.
So how is he suppose to earn a living, for a state drowning with homeless people. This guy blew $17m what a guy, you can't make this up, what an idiot. He still should be allowed to make a living. Then again it could be a scam to cover Otani's gambling.
So the guy steals 17 milly (allegedly) and is still on the streets doing doordash?
Fresh Delivery 😂
Not anymore
The only thing to consider here is that Uber Eats is an immediate way to get money. As a driver myself if I need extra money at the end of the month to make rent or for a purchase etc you can make about $100+ a day and have immediate access to that money. For someone on the constant edge and losing money to betting I can see how Ippei would be doing this how did he have time now that is a great question.
Maybe Ippei works for Uber Eats in the baseball off season for something to do... do we know his finances? There are at least 3.5 months of off season where Shohei could live in Japan or a neighborhood where there are many Japanese people where he does not need to use English. Uber Eats isn't always just a "full time job"... many do that or a competitor as an extra income/fun money. It could also be that Uber Eats only issued this for the area where Ippei worked regularly to distance themselves from him and the news was leaked somehow. Not sure... interesting news story though.
If he is already committing fraud, maybe he was also selling his Uber account to someone he looked like.
Isn't Ippei a little too old to have a 12 year old style haircut?
Kinda funny he had time to be a losing gambler while working this hard. No wonder he wasn't good at sports betting. He has no time to make good picks
So much for innocent until proven guilty with Uber eats. There's a valueless company I will no longer use.
He literally confessed 😂
Also, Uber isn't prosecuting him, they're saying they don't want him representing their company in any capacity. They can do what they want.
@@wewantthecupokay then why use alledgedly in the story if he stupidly spilled his guts?
And how do you even come up with Uber being the ones prosecuting him? I didn't even hint at that!
Congrats on the clickbait, you hack 😂
Ummm sorry but the man has a massive fraud allegation in the millions… I wouldn’t want my company to be associated with him either. Not that I have any great love for Uber eats, but this is a massive financial felony.
That’s what you get when you steal from people to support your gambling.
I don’t feel sorry for him at all
It would be pretty weird of them to have him as an employee yea. Sure, he might not have done what is alleged (which, lol) but at what point do people not realize that companies sorta have an image to look after. Employing someone who is currently under scrutiny for theft, in a delivery business? Yeaaaaaa.
@@Earthboundmike Exactly… I mean I’m not trying to throw fuel on the fire here and I do understand and promote the idea of compassion. That being said, I also understand and promote the idea of accountability and consequences.
@@TheNorthCafeProject, I don't have compassion for Ippei. He betrayed, lied and stole from his best friend. Traitor. He should serve time.
It was a scam. He was able to get away from Otani by doing this. A lot of illegal activities are done with lift and Uber.
I won’t use Uber eats ever….. this is wrong….. not that I think he needs to work here, but this is a bad move from Uber eats…..
Guy deserves a job. Especially since he took the fall for ohtani…..
