I know people keeps bashing Yamcha because of Z and Super but the OG fans of dragon ball know he's a good character during these times.
I mean he’s an okay character here… definitely a tier below the likes of Krillin and Tien but a tier above Chiaotzu.
@Austin.Kilgore He was a little more than just ok. People don't pay attention to the fact that unlike Goku, Krillin, Tien, and Chiaotzu who basically been training since they were young and studying martial arts Yamcha wasn't really a martial artist more of a bandit. Once he started training with Roshi he got good quick. Also, honestly he was stronger than Krillin during most of dragon ball. Yea Krillin had more wins than him but look at who Krillin fought compared to who Yamcha fought, especially in the tournaments.
@@sean-e-boi4688 Well I wasn’t exactly comparing who’s stronger necessarily, (between Krillin & Yamcha) rather more so comparing whomhad more “W moments” and less “L moments” (for simplicity sake), essentially just who I found to be the cooler/more interesting character. Also I don’t think we can say for sure that Yamcha didn’t also have some degree of marital arts training as well before he was introduced in the show. Be a while sure he was a desert bandit… but he was a desert bandit who seemed awfully familiar with the world of martial arts. Not only was he already aware of who Grandpa Gohan, Master Roshi and ever The Ox King all were… he even was aware of what the power pole was. Then most importantly he already was already full capable of his iconic “wolf fang fist” technique. (🐺🧛🏻🤜) But yeah, I suppose I am selling him a bit short by saying he was “just okay”… because was a cool character but I still completely stand by saying he was a tier below Krillin & Tien but still a tier above Chiaotzu.

This is why the end of Dragon Ball Super is so special because when watching Dragon ball and Z it shows Gokus amazing personality to make everyone his friend.
Goku Here: "I don't want to fight you, but if I have to defend my friends, I will.
Goku in Super: "I want to fight you, even if it put multiple universes at risk."
Champa was every bit at fault for that as Goku- which Vados was quick to point out. And it should be noted that Zeno was going to erase those 8 Universes and because of Goku, they were- literally- given a fighting chance.
The move Goku used on yamcha to made him bounce off the rocks was his paper rock scissors attack which he also uses in a lot of the Budokai games and he learned it from Son Gohan.
It's stupid that the dub didn't just call it that and gave him random dialogue instead
You guys are a bit unfair with Yamcha. My man was always kind of a gag character and he's used like a stepping stone for the villains, just like Kuririn, but he's going to prove his usefulness in Dragon Ball. He's a cool character in my book.

I love og dragon ball, i always imagine all theses scenes running through gokus head as he fights, og dragon ball shows goku has never changed as a person which is the best outcome for everyone
17:30 Yamcha got 3 special moves. His signature the Roga Fuu Fuu Ken, the Kamehame Ha he'll learn and the Sokidan (I don't know how you translated that) the mini Genkidama like he use in the 23th Tenka Ichi Budokai and the movie against Tullece's goones
Oolong and Yamcha are just like Goku, all three are based on characters from the Chinese novel "Journey Into The West", classic Dragon Ball is essentially a parody of Journey Into The West, the did change it up a bit to be more original but still, at it's core, that is what it is. Bulma and Krillin take up the same role of sorts as the Priest who unites these characters.

yamcha's got a lot more depth in this arc in particular than you'd expect if you only know him from memes. admittedly it's more artistic depth than narrative depth but still if you can appreciate it for what it is it'll make you see him as a much better character.

As for Yamcha. Had Bulma not woken up, he'd have beaten Goku. Here in early DragonBall you can see that Goku's power also depends on his stomach. If he's full he'll have no problem fighting. But if he's hungry, he's immensely weaker, and distracted

Yamcha doesn't really use his Wolf Fang Fist in Z but it is technically the first "Ki" attack in the series. Its not a beam but he uses his Ki to enhance his speed and force of his punchs.

That fight and one (or two) other(s) are the closest things to wins Yamcha gets in the official Dragon Ball story.

Goku was learning, that’s how he learned. He is curious so it makes it okay. 🤣. At least the Goku effect made Yamcha a better human being. One win for Yamcha he did overcome his fear.

Yamcha gets disrespected but he's still among the strongest humans
I never noticed until now, but when we see Yamcha's stance it zooms in on his boots and they look very similar to Goku's boots later in the franchise. Also, Yamcha's outfit always reminded me of the crane school, but I don't think that was the case. I'm not really the biggest fan of his character but I feel like, IN SUPER *Spoilers* he would have been a better match up against the Trio of Danger than Gohan. They all have the mentality that they are the toughest coolest people around including Yamcha, and he literally has a signature move based on a wolf. I feel that he could have begun training after a close loss and worked his way back into relevancy in the show even if he didn't get to join the Tournament of Power.

It's not just transformations and explosions like in Z.
It's just a wholesome adventure, but you get to see where everything in Z came from.
It's just a shame the rest of the cast were basically written off after the Saiyan Saga.

Yamucha’s original character was interesting up until the Android Saga. He was never really “the best” at anything, but was likable. I hate how irrelevant he became, especially since he was so pivotal to the beginning of DB.

Vegeta snatching Bulma from Yamcha is such a bad take I get sick of hearing. She dumped him for cheating on her. Akira Toriyama said it himself. If he didn’t cheat he would have been endgame with her. They were only broken up to create more Saiyan characters and he needed a female character to have Vegeta’s children. Yamcha’s JP VA actually protested to Akira about breaking them up. He thought the cheating came out of nowhere and it did.
Yeah it really did. It's wild since I'm pretty sure it was just filler that became canon due to wanting more Saiyan kids. They were pretty cute and enjoyable in this show
@Al7249 like I get the importance of Trunks and it really works him being Bulma’s son. The hairstyle and the Capsule Corp stuff. But they didn’t need to assassinate Yamcha’s character to put Bulma with Vegeta.
