    Maria, I have grown to love your Sassy Masha channel even more than Gentle Whispering; sadly, after so many years of watching ASMR I don’t even experience it any more. These videos are just as relaxing, very informative, and so much fun to watch. The occasional guest appearance of Mila is always a plus! I have loved you since you had less than 50,000 subscribers and I will never grow tired of watching your sweet videos. Thanks for years of pleasure you’ve given millions of us. This one was great ❤

    The mini auger is such a great idea! I have thick clay soil and planting just 15 bulbs took me hours!

    Hi Maria I've been a huge fan of yours for many years - you are a true pioneer in your profession, and I have so much respect for you. I specialize in California native landscape design and installation in the San Diego area. I thought I would make a couple comments. As you noted correctly, Bee's bliss is extremely fast growing - we can usually count on it to reach at least 6 feet across in a single season. It will also tip root as it creeps along. Groundcover manzanita is also a great choice for such a rocky slope, as it is very shallow rooted (Dr. Hurd is a large upright tree form). BTW Dr. Hurd is one of our fastest growing manzanita, often 3' per year. I only recommend the least fertile amendment (if at all), as these plants do much better long term without high levels of nutrients. I know in such rocky soil it is hard to find enough dirt to backfill; plain clean soil is great! Finally, Coast live oak can grow shockingly fast, and native succulents like Dudleya (planted on their sides) would love that rockiness. Best of luck! - Greg

    • @SassyMashaVlogs
      @SassyMashaVlogs  Рік тому +2

      Wow, thank you, Greg, for the advice and information! I'm so excited to see my Dr Hurd grow! For some reason some trees grow slower then normal in my yard so it will be a welcome change. I'm excited to start planting mostly Cali native plants in this area of my yard. I love Live coast oak but it has prickly leaves and we love our barefoot summers in the yard 😁 I was thinking Blue Oak or something that will be on a smaller side for the future, I know oaks get giant here. Would you recommend just planting acorns or an actual small tree for the Blue Oak? Thank you again!

    • @cal-native
      @cal-native Рік тому +1

      @@SassyMashaVlogs you might try both - planting a container and a couple acorns - it's possible for seedlings to surpass the size of a container within a year. The only drawback to Quercus douglasii is that they are one of the slowest growing of all oaks (they actually make good bonsai trees😉), but I get the issue with the serrated leaves on the coast live oaks. I'm also curious what got your maple - did it happen to have an ant infestation?

    • @SassyMashaVlogs
      @SassyMashaVlogs  Рік тому +1

      Hmmm.. there are ants running up but I can't see how far up, although ants are infesting my whole back yard, every tree has ants running up on them. Urgh. I'm starting to think it's sun damage or lack of water? We removed a lawn this year and I bet that maple was using it as water source more then the drip irrigation it has. I'd love a professional opinion on my trees but in El Dorado County there is no arborist to evaluate them besides the tree removal companies who literally just give me a take down quote vs actual advice 👎. Thank you for your time again!!! I truly appreciate your advice!

    • @cal-native
      @cal-native Рік тому +3

      @@SassyMashaVlogs so I just want to mention that the extent to which ants contribute to the mortality of landscape plants (especially natives) is a relatively new subject that still needs research. However, what I can say is that they nest in the root ball of target plants, excavating soil to create chambers where they then adhere sucking insects to the upper root system, unseen and protected. Not only do the scale and aphids appropriate moisture and sugar directly from the sap (ants farm their excretory product, which is almost pure sugar and amino acids), but in that process might inoculate pathogens from sick plants to healthy plants (the ants move their "cattle" to new plants as they kill previous ones). Most horticultural people are aware of the symbiotic relationship between ants and sucking insects, but what is little appreciated is that by the time you see them in the branches, they have long infested the roots! They also plant weeds like crazy (they eat the attachment points of the seed, not the seed themselves) and when dropped near nests or trails, it gives them another place to seamlessly jump to once they've killed the main plants. It's possible they plant most of the weeds in our gardens, and I could see the tell-tale signs on your slope😉. Unfortunately, to be honest, most arborists aren't familiar with these aspects so end up recommending removal; however, there are treatments that can often save infected plants, if caught soon enough. Anyway, you can look me up as I was the 2018 Horticulturist of the Year for San Diego if you are interested in some more specific advice by email. You have been so helpful to me personally and I don't mind returning the favor! Thanks - Greg

    We lived in Lake Tahoe Area for years before we returned to Wisconsin and built a new house. When we moved again we left behind many plants and trees in the yard and I will be 127 years old when the trees are mature. Our girls developed language skills faster than the boys. Mila can really holler now, just like our girls. They used hollering a lot and it was their Super Power to use their "Outdoor Voices" Indoors. Personally I am not a screamer but they and their mother utilize screaming frequently.

There is a really neat native plant place that I go to in Oakland called Oaktown Native Plant Nursery if you ever find yourself in that area. Waaaaay back on her ASMR channel near the beginning there's a video she recorded in her car where she talks about it and plays it (if I'm even thinking of the right song) I think it was called bubbles or something along those lines? Been a while since I've been back that far lol
