      Interesting take on brokers. I can’t answer for anyone but myself. I detest these kind of business practices. When it comes right down to it nothing would work without the carriers. We would all do well to treat them with the respect that they all deserve. Carriers need to make money and they can’t make it up in volume. Brokers can. I can shuffle more paper for more loads. I cannot stress enough how wrong this all is. When I came into this I said I was going to be different and I wasn’t going to sacrifice my integrity for money. I am 3 years in and really like what I do most of the time. It seems the only way to fix it is with more regulations when it should be that we are just good people and will not let a corrupt industry compromise our beliefs.

    Scary!! We are at Amazon, just started 3 weeks ago. On the first week we got a C (on the performance) because my husband and I, we were lost to be honest. We’ve learned so much on this past three weeks. It is amazing. Now we are B and the good loads are appearing. What scares me about DAT load board and others is exactly what you just said. They being in control, if today I am in a good mood I will give you $20 extra; I dont like your accent $100 off. Is not consistente. Sucks, because everyone could make good money. Before you call know your numbers to operate and then have idea of what your are willing to deliver that load for then call on the load and don’t be afraid to ask for what your service is worth

      @@scottmitchell7405 To be honest, the rates aren’t that low, comparing where I am (FL) and DAT. We are getting good RPM ($3/$5/per mile). My husband is in NC, round trip 3 days with a RPM of $2.5. DH of 25miles. If you know how to search you can get good ones. And no waiting to load or unload. Just hook and go. We are liking it so far.

      It's competition and negotiation. The broker's job to to shop for the best deal. The best deal is not always the lowest price. It's a combination of price and quality to come together to make a good deal. If you make a good impression and gain their trust, you might get them to pay you a bit more.
      Not everyone can always make good money. This is supply and demand in a competitive market. There are currently more trucks than loads in many areas of the country. This means that if some companies went out of business, nobody in those areas would even notice, there is literally no need for them.

    • @nawlinshb504
      @nawlinshb504 Місяць тому

      @@YouDriveUSuccess really the broker’s job is to facilitate the load to be moved from point A to point B. Shippers calculate how much they feel is fair and the broker’s job is to get it moved within that range. Not to move it for the lowest for them to make ridiculous profit margins off of carries. If the name of the game was to move it at its lowest price how would anyone expect for a carrier to survive with maintenance, equipment payments, insurance, etc. ?
      Problem is that it’s too many truck drivers and not enough business owners. This has to be run as a business. Not some contractors posted at Home Depot hoping someone needs our services and tosses us a bone for the low price. They expect us to have immaculate CSA scores, 10 years or newer equipment, multiple trucks, all while bending over backwards to make sure the freight reaches when they want and have that done for the lowest? No sir!!!!! The name of the game is not get it moved for the lowest. That’s the problem with the mentality some of us have.

    Yes like TQL make billions and pay trash on any load on their app , or dat. Make billions but the problem is the people that make those loads. If everyone does like me I delete Any load from TQL no matter if picking up where I’m and is delivery to my home. They don’t have trucks but people don’t understand that , two months no one work for TQL and the market is going up. We need to do one broker at the time. Let’s start with TQL. 💪

  • @BigHomieJohn

    There is no college degree or unobtainable requirements to get a brokers license. If trucking companies want to fix the rates and get rid of brokers then we should become brokers ourselves. There should be more 3PL and asset based brokerages. If you already have trucks, and you get your brokers license you are already ahead of your competition. Cut the middle man out. Be your own middle man.

    Not every broker is this way. I have been on my own for twelve years, have well over fifty carriers I work with daily. My relationship is strong with them. They are paid fairly ( been over 2.35 a mile for last 24 months dry van and 2.89 mile for flats ). Maybe it’s because I do my business in the southeast, it’s different down here. When I worked in a boiler room I wanted to be different and better than that. Suffice to say brokers are not all bad, at least this one.

      Honest people tend to wind up doing business with honest people. You know the broker needs to feed his family and he knows you will do what you say you will do with the load. There is quite a disparity in income of truck owners. The quick buck guys seem to only last a few years.

    • @EdwardLuttrell-p8m
      @EdwardLuttrell-p8m Місяць тому +2

      @@Extrabigass I should also mention I own three trucks as well. So, I guess that does influence what I pay on the broker side. Many times this past 2-2.5 years I have lost money on loads just to help the truck. I am very old school trucking, been in my family for well over 50 years and I will not stiff my carriers ever. Without them I do not exist.

    • @Extrabigass
      @Extrabigass Місяць тому

      @EdwardLuttrell-p8m Unfortunately you're a rarity from what I've seen.
      Most of the brokers we have been dealing with just seem to forget a truck needs to be maintained and drivers deserve a decent paycheck.
      Since about April I've been making less than company drivers by a good share.
      When I pay off this truck I'm going to sell it as I'd make more as a company driver. I was banking on the new transpancy law boosting rates to a more sustainable level alas the timeline got pushed off and might get neutered altogether.
      The TIA is a powerful lobby that's obviously greasing politicians pockets so I'm not confident in rates for carriers improving.
      Take care and thanks for being one of the "good ones".

    All this is true only in times of huge overcapacity of trucks.. we can not blame other people are trying to make money from us, they are not friends, they are not saints.. we should not blame the brokers, we should think about the reasons why we have this overcapacity. To have so much trucks means someone finance and credit this trucks, so someone obviously throw tons of cheap credits during the pandemic which overheated the economy and started the inflation. The amount of cheap credits in 2020 was disastorous, this ruined the trucking and wrecked it for the last 2 years

As an Iowa based college grad I many times can recognize the broker /associate by voice when TQL calls as they are Midwestern accent and culture. I can tell their hand by the tone of their voice and know how to offer if it is a load I want. It might be wrong but am I not supposed to use intuition gained by culture to my advantage.

It says that you are responsible for everything out of your own control, it also says they dont need to pay you if they dont want to. When they dont need you anymore, when your equipment is past 5yrs old they will throw you away. When that happens lets all hope they dont owe you 20k dollars........ @@businessschooldropout2330 Maybe you need to go back to school to be an attorney? You need to have your attorney translate all the small print. Look for the part where is says they can withhold payment IF, and that is a big IF you dont deliver.... So they intentionally wait 30 days to pay you because of the IF. That way they know if they even want to pay you. Look for the part where it says if you fail to deliver on time then you are responsible for cross dock storage and your own schedule appointments. Mind you they set the pickup and delivery times, if they dont want you to make it, that is easy. The problem is in a fraud case they dont want the expired perishable product so you would be unable to get a new appointment. They then hold your payments from other loads. Lets say they claim the fraud load was worth 100k, they hold the 20k they owe you from other loads then sue you for the rest. Insurance claim you say, that is insurance fraud. That is a felony, it is easier to defraud the trucker guy that has been to collage..... lol.......... only joking. Good luck my fellow trucker.

In regards that all Uber Driver take all the shitty rides and is the reason why they keep on giving the drivers very low pay if we all stick together and not take cheap loads. Absolutely they will have to pay more or they won’t have trucks to move their loads!! simple. But let’s stick together. That is a problem. We humans we don’t stick together.😤

I don't what you think, but if the broker is let's say moving half of their freight on their own trucks and brokering out the other half, they might not have all these negative ideas of the other half of the business.

I also have carriers that I like using even if I make a less margin on a load, just because quality service is more important for me than extra money. I've seen your videos and I can say I like some of your content. But being a carrier, you seem to be to subjective when you talk about brokers. I can say a lot of bad things about some of the carriers, but that would be me generalizing and that wouldn't be fair.

    Respectfully I have to disagree on all these points and say that the Brokrage the author has been a part of is just a bad apple like many other bad apples in the Brokrage world as well as any industry! Any professional Brokrage that wants to provide top service to their customers know that they are at the mercy at the service the trucking company that picks up the load provides, so naturally they would love to build a strong relationship with the carrier and get that good service. I’ve got to say tho their segmentation of nationalities in the industry was very accurate for the most part, but it’s sad that they were a prejudiced, yes Armenians are known for double brokering and it’s risky to give them loads but not all of them double broker. I’ve been on carrier side, shipper side, and broker side and trust me all sides are at the mercy of a good relationship to get the job done properly.

    Yes if broker finds a cheaper truck, they will book them
    If another broker pays more you wouldnt go with them?
    Shippers usually mark up the freight too!
