Seriously. It completely blows my mind.
Money buys everything in America my friend. Whatever you could possibly imagine.
lol that’s like saying, “I don’t understand why voting just isn’t banned completely.” in a democracy.
Why ban the system giving you millions?
The reason corporate lobbying isn’t banned is because our government is a dictatorship of the bourgeois and the ruling classing. Corporate lobbying isn’t banned because the government is owned by the corporations and ruling class. The U.S. government works for the corporations and not the common folk.
The government is there for the corporates, not for the people
Keep in mind who wrote the constitution, lobbies for the laws, where most government money goes to,...
Also 67% of US wealth is owned by 10% of the population, 2.5% is with the bottom 50% of the population (statista)

We the people have not existed since the new deal.

My favorite thing about Leftists is how they complain all day about corporations just acting and being like typical corporations (as if a group of people getting together to make money is such a horrible concept) while at the same time demanding for radical changes like communism and socialism... which only gives even more power to the biggest corporation of all, the government.
Yes, the government is a corporation, it generates profit by taxing the people and its product is trying to maintain social order or, at least, some semblance of it.
Only a true lummox can believe more government tyranny will magically stop corporations from behaving like corporations and somehow cure all corruption.

@beaverjedi1236 sure bud 🙄
Nah, the system is inherently terrible, but there is no incentive for either party to do anything about it. For example, if elections on all levels would be decided through popular vote, we could have much more parties in the House and Senate. But that would hurt the Democrats and Republicans, so it's probably not gonna happen anytime soon (although the Democrats are at least open to the idea). And it's a similar situation with the Electoral College. You would need a 2/3 majority to get rid of it - but the Republicans especially really benefit from the Electroral College.

The sad part is I live in the US and most people do believe it's a democracy, simply because they vote.
The existence of lobbying means nothing to them and some people even defend it as reasonable
Finally someone explains how I feel. For years I've been saying the democrats do just enough to keep peoppe voting, but never actually do what they say.
Surprised? You live in a nearly pure capitalistic country. The US political left is, compared to Europe, still a solid right.
Blame Obama for deciding to do a victory lap when he became president instead of supporting the runoff candidate that would have given him a super majority in congress to do everything he would have wanted. Then didn't and tea-party crazies came to power so then nothing could get done under him.
it seems like people make every little thing an event for biden, like he is a little kid and someone is distracting him and the rest of the us with him.
Is peoppe a new synonym for idiots? It makes complete sense in your context.
Obama had 8 years to codify Roe vs. Wade. He promised he would do it and never did. Biden had over a year to do the same thing.
It gets overturned by the Supreme Court then demacrats use it as a fund raiser, send us $20 and we'll get this overturned.
As long as the US continues to give its citizenry a relatively comfortable life, feeds the consumption addiction and keeps the dollar strong, this won't change. As long as people can live comfortably, they'll (whether consciously or not) turn a blind eye to all this.
Should any one of those dominoes tip over, the rest falls, and living standards plummet, THAT'S when you'll start seeing the pushback. If that's not managed, that's when you'll see the protests and the rioting.
And THAT is why as a non-American I'm 100% excited to have BRICS succeed. Let's see how this continues if and when the dollar loses relevance.
The fact that "conservative Democrats" exist is nuts.
But, explains *a lot.*
the democratic party is a right wing party. The US doesnt have anything remotely approaching even a centrist party, let alone a left wing party.
It's one of the reasons FL is to f'ed up. Democrats in FL aren't what Democrats in the rest of the country would be. They're rejected Republicans. They're Republicans the Republicans didn't want to nominate for anything, so they moved to the Democratic party for a shot at a seat at the table.
There’s no liberal republicans
What's even more concerning is that most democrats in congress are conservative. Establishment democrats allow Republicans to keep dragging America farther to the right while taking no meaningful steps to push back against the Republicans.
The republicans call themselves conservative when they are actually regressive, because they aren't just fighting against change, but trying to undo any progress that has been made.
They’re all conservative. ALL of them.
Sometimes I think about all the people who've ended themselves over stupid things like having medical debt. That's only one form of the many ways these people commit political violence against us, yet we are never even supposed to protest without permission.
I was just thinking this... how many broken families, self killings, and pain from deaths of despair over things like money that don't even exist
The answer is better economic policy, but I do agree with your point that it is not going to happen
The things I would like to say, I cannot safely express online

Did you ever notice how defensive some people get when we point out that the two major partys in the US share the same goals? I mean they get unreasonably angry. They love to point fingers at monoparty states elsewhere in the world but fail to notice our two party state is merely an illusion. It is as if they need to hold on to that illusion for dear life, elsewise we do not appear to be the democracy we all so love to praise, even as we have so little understanding what a true democracy might look like. It's easier to fool a man then prove to him he's been fooled
The same goals? Look man I'm not defending anyone, I'm probably about as hard-lined a centrist can be, and I do not see how both parties have the same goals. If you could explain that further I would love it. Because as I see it, one party wants to basically retain the status quo, and the other wants you to put your driver's license number in whenever you're on any spicy websites. Not the same in my eyes.
Yeah, all parties saying "democracy" won't allow to vote against capitalism. Like actual material problems are not something where you can vote the solution and be sure "voting" means that it actually will be done, which makes the vote useless for the working class... yet a democratic vote with actual power to enforce e.g. healthcare/housing/education etc. will be called "tyranny" for controlling our exploiters ("businesses").
Most people agree that politics are all bought.
Gotta love that corruption is called lobbying
Lobbying is just legal bribery
It would still take different form without it. Trying to ban lobbyism would be extremely riskful considering how both parties are baked by them. They will notice steps towards removing lobbyism very easily. Any new political party typically either dissolves or gets absorbed by another.
@@rico-fs1crthat is so stupid. Taking lobbying from politicians wouldn't change anything in that aspect because 99.9% of these politicians are already multi-multi-millionaires. We technically have like 3 or 4 other mainstream parties than the neoLiberals and the far right Conservatives, who are currently the Opposition, but the 3 or 4 other parties have never be in power at the Federal level. Not once in over 150 years of Canada. It's been a back and forth between Libs and Cons.
Plus one party, the Bloc Quebecois are only voted for in Quebec, our second largest province. The People's Party of Canada is our super far right party, they take votes from Conservatives, but almost have eliminated themselves because conservative voters just vote Conservative because I think the are at least semi-conscious that having a PPC sign on your lawn signals you are likely a wingnut extremist. The Cons have been around so long that it is more palatable for people to be wingnuts and vote Conservative. Our Green party has be sabotaged and has almost no momentum. The 3rd most popular party is the NDP, basically the closest we have to a left party with any significant visibility and support across Canada, but the leader is weak and, probably, on purpose, to make it hard for progressive people in Canada to vote in that way.
It becomes clearer by the year that voting should be considered about 5% of what any activist spends their time on because it has about the lowest amount of chance of changing things. We need bottom-up structural change until we can build a stronger community that can actually push for policy change because we have supported each other in case they are fired or lose housing or food. We need to build up strong Mutual Aid Networks (website for that, but also just the idea of a network of support in a community like the commons or Library Socialism, would be good).
So, go ahead, take 5% of your time, do some research and decide who to vote for if it is an election year. Generally, pick the party that has the most anti-war, anti-Imperialist, pro-worker, pro-Green New Deal policies, and then move your energy to building local mutual aid networks. That 95% of your time will be far more beneficial, I can pretty much guarantee it because it will be visible far faster than a vote for a political elite party which you will probably never meet the leader in person and have no relationship with.

It's the same with every western "democracy". The parties don't really oppose each other, they work together to keep the status quo intact by blocking the other parties policies (which they didn't want to implement anyway). This gives off the illusion of democracy while keeping the same system in place forever.

I'm an Australian who watches a lot of politics. I can tell you that you don't have a left wing in the US, not really. The LNP is Australia's conservative party, they're to the left of the Dems on some issues. That's called the ratchet effect on the overton window for anyone who is unaware.
What you need primarily in the US is what you call ranked choice voting. We call it preferential voting here, essentially it means you can vote your conscience and so long as you know where your preference is going, your vote is never wasted. Voting is also compulsory here.
Once you have ranked choice, the GOP will never win another election. You'll end up with the Dems being the more conservative party and whatever the new progressive party is called.
An upheaval of power like that would provide the perfect opportunity to get money out of politics and un-rat-fuck SCOTUS. So much could be achieved if you just had that one change to your electoral commission. Preferential voting will get you that third political party that actually is full to the brim of leftists. Also, GOP politics would change - it'd no longer be a race to the bottom as they'd have to compete in the market place of ideas. Which isn't dissimilar to challenging a quadruple amputee to a footrace.
Which is why it'll never happen.

Spot on. Having worked in American politics, I can say I've seen every aspect of this argument play out in real life.
Sometimes, they show their true colors when it comes to working class interests. For instance, when the railway workers were threatening to strike, the democrats worked alongside the republicans to make the strike illegal.
Yup, and then Dems run on Biden being the most pro-worker president ever.
Which, he kind of is. That just shows how hostile both parties have been to labor.
This, exactly this!
And then Biden negotiated to see that their demands were agreed to. So the strike threat worked.
And afterwards gave the railway workers everything they wanted in their demands. Or did you not know that.
@@dominictemple so far I’ve seen no evidence for that. But even if they did, it was likely that if Biden didn’t give in, the workers would’ve went on strike regardless. It was likely in my opinion giving into the demands was made out of fear rather than good will.
