  • Have I got a good one for you today. Now, I don't normally see that many critters on my jobs, the noise usually scares them away, but this one is a bit of an exception. The homeowner was chuffed when I knocked on his door and offered to do a free makeover. When he showed me the backyard, he said - I bet you'll regret taking this on. If only he'd seen some of the jobs that I've done, hahaha! He actually inherited this place from his mother and, as you can see, would prefer to be doing something else, besides gardening. Anyway, this is a good episode, I'm sure it will be a satisfying watch. All up, I spent around 16 hours on this job, with 2 trips to the landfill included.

    FAQ's:
    Q: Where are you located?
A: I am from Hobart, Tasmania, Australia 🦘.
Q: Do you worry about snakes?
A: I have never even seen a snake in over 5 years on the job.
Q: Which equipment do you use?
A: Mostly STIHL power equipment (battery and petrol) and commercial Honda self-propelled mowers.
Q: How much do the jobs cost?
A: Sorry, I prefer not to talk about costs.
    Q: What happened to Nick?
A: Nick was offered a full-time position at his other job as a Political admin.
    Q: What happened to Brent?
A: Brent quit at the start of August 2022.
Q: Why don't you use tarps instead of bins?
A: Tarps are too difficult to move through small spaces and lift into the trailer. The same for wheelbarrows, they are only good for unloading the trailer!
Q: Why are the hot water cylinders outside?
A: I would say it's because Australia had a temperate to tropical climate, and therefore it doesn't matter that much if they are outdoors. To me, though, it seems a bit inefficient to have them outside in Tasmania with a temperate climate (coldish for 3 - 4 months per year). But that is industry standard down here 🤷‍♂️.
Q: Why are you cutting so close to your employee?
A: I'm not cutting too close to my workers, they are standing too close to where I am working! All of my workers have been told numerous times about standing too close to the tools and about the hazards involved!
Q: Why do your workers do all the lifting and carrying?
A: Basically, they are employed to carry things and I pay them well, to do the job required.
Q: You work so well together, how do you do it?
A: That's the magic of editing. My workers are basically given instructions on what to do, I just edit it all out, so the videos look seamless!
Q: Why don't you have help?
A: I've had many problems with employees in the past, so now I work alone.
    Q: Why don't you have a ride-on mower?
A: Well, there are a few reasons.
    1. I don't have the right trailer for a ride on, considering I always take away the green waste.
    2. I don't have anywhere to store it, as my shed is too small.
    3. A lot of the properties we do have fences and gates, so you can't actually get a ride-on on to the properties.
    4. I don't do enough big jobs to justify spending 15k AUD on a stander, but it would be nice to have one!
    5. I will get one as soon as my transport and storage problems are solved.
Q: What happened to your workers?
A: Because the work is so hard and I expect high standards, most have quit over time. The only exception so far is Nick.
Q: What types of ladders do you use?
A: The large one is a Gorilla Adjustable Platform 150kg and the small one is a Gorilla Mighty 19. They are both adjustable.
    Q: Who/what is Jim's Mowing?
A: Jim's Mowing is a franchise business. The Jim's Group is the biggest home services franchise in Australia.
Q: Why do you have 2 channels that seem the same?
A: Quick Cuts (my original channel) has music in the background. Quick Cuts V2 is for those that like just machine noise, and it doesn't have music.

Of all the yard transformation channels that I watch on UA-cam, you are, by far, the most meticulous of all of them. You not only take care of the landscaping, but you go the extra mile and organize everything around the property. And then, you make sure that the animals that you find are safe. This Canadian is grateful 👍

Others would let it go and not deal with it. You are unique in that!!! This transformation was also amazing, including the zoological pacifier, although I wouldn't want him in the garden :-)))

Hey, George! What I've learnt from you great videos: Every Australian garden owns a rotary clothes dryer that stands in the middle of the garden, which is not used and to which a paved path leads, but which almost everyone leaves completely overgrown with grass. Until you come and dig it out!
I really like how lovingly you tidy up the gardens! I knew straight away that you would repair the privacy fence. And the brick wall turned out to be a masterpiece (reminded me of Pink Floyd: "... all in all it's just another brick in the wall!") Thanks for another great video! I'm always happy about it! Sunny greetings from Vienna, Austria.

Thank you very much for enlarging my knowledge! I didn't know that name so far! And, yes, I do also know the difference between drying towels and bed sheets outside in the fresh air and the huge difference it makes. Although I'm living now in Vienna in an apartment, I grew up in a house with a garden, and the sheets always smelled so good that even now, as a grown-up I can still remember that smell. As well as the frozen sheets in winter time, which was always very funny to see and take off.

Also saw koalas at a reserve and loads of roos everywhere! Absolutely loved it all - luckily I didn't come across any nasty snakes or spiders but did ward off loads of flies when walking in the bush! I do like the way you tell us names of the plants and trees, so interesting as I like to learn. This time we had critters! Those ants looked huge! The Cockatoo was nice to see for this birder! 😊 The Blue Gum tree and the way you showed us the top was cool! It’s a beautiful tree. The water meter was a new ID for you. I hope you do more of this. I’ve been wanting to know what the concrete “bowls” are that I’ve seen in many of your videos, wasn’t one in this one. I smiled watching you stack the bricks, it’s that desire in you to get it right that makes your videos so fun to watch! I absolutely love the Australian walkways to the clothes line and your reveal of them. I’ll say your skinks are much larger than the ones here! 😄

Another great job you did George!! People in Tasmania should be very thankful that you do that for free. It helps with the neighbor hood for sure I bet the neighbors like it when you clean up the yards also. I live in the USA and we can not let are yards get that bad at all. The city you live in will give you a citation and then you have so many days to get it done or they will come and do it for you with a heavy fine and cost for them to do it. That yard you just done looks like it could catch on fire any minute. It was very dry in the video. Any you do a fabulous job as always.

Now that is a clean slate George! All the homeowner needs now is a friendly tree lopper to remove the trees in the front yard. Please don't get me wrong, I love the gums but its just the wrong place, always dropping leaves, lifting the foot path and the lawn will never grow. You always go above and beyond, so enjoyable to watch, looking forward to the next one

I love watching your videos. I get myself a big mug of coffee, and I sit down to see if you’ve put up a new vid, your attention to detail, and your before, and after takes are the best! Not to mention the fact you’re on the other side of the world and I just love looking at the neighborhoods you work in. I am in Connecticut, USA and being a plant person I love looking at the plants in the yard. I’m gonna have to study the weather patterns now in your area. Keep up the great work you are the best.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❣️😘

That yard/garden looks so nice in the end! Those Blue Gums are beautiful, but they sure put off a lot of trash. Loved the animal interactions - I know you can't force animals to show up, but it was great seeing them here. We have blue-tailed skinks near where I live (Ohio, US) - they say if you mess with them too much, they will drop their tails (?I've never seen that happen), -they are a lot smaller than your blue-tongued skinks. Thanks for your videos! -It is very interesting to see Australia/Tasmania from this viewpoint, -you helping people with their yards. -Those birds were beautiful! 😁

We have blue-bellies here on the west coast of the USA, but they are So much smaller than the blue-tongue in Aussie. They will leave their tail behind if they are caught by it and it will regrow. Used to hunt them up as a kid, but we would pinch their bellies to pick up so the tail stayed on so we could look at them for a while and then let them go back on their way. Lizards are fascinating!

This once again was a marathon effort with super results. It was kind of you to actually tidy up all the stuff around the yard. Does the client know that a property needs to water as well as mowing. Such an appealing house and potential. Trees in front a nightmare because they shed their bark, even though they look Great they soak up water and leave ground very dry. I know from experience. Love extra commentary which helps us Aussies and overseas viewers. Good luck. Sue melbourne vic

Definitely my new favorite vid, ‘Steve’! Could probably write a 500 word essay on the things I loved about this, but I won’t 😆 I will sum up; the wood and bricks? Amazingly satisfying. The ants and birds? Fascinating to watch! The blue-tongue? I’m so happy you saw it in time and gave it a different home where it would be safe from the rest of the mow😍 I’m digging the khaki shirt and blue hat! Overall a gorgeous restoration that brought back functionality and ability to use the yard, all while making the maintenance so much easier. Pssst, I’d take that Masport if he’s not using it ☺ Over to Very Quick Cuts to keep that algorithm pumping and to show I’m good at my word 👍

You do more then just mow & trim a little. You actually move things out of the way to clean out weeds, bushes & grass. I love that you organize stuff & pickup the rubish. You even find & uncover side walks. Stacking the wood & the bricks! Who does that? Most yard guys would whip around it & call it good! Super neat job! Look great. Thanks for rescuing the critters. ❤ I know you got some dangerous reptiles & Spiders there. It's good you know what are safe!! 😊
