All the critics here are missing the point. The idea of theater is NOT to present a video recording of events as caught by a camera. If anyone saw the production--and I did three times--invariably those in the audience who had very little knowledge of Buddy Holly or Richie Valens came away with a greater appreciation of those two legends. I have not heard ONE person say, "This wasn't the real Ritchie Valens" or "Disgusting! They trashed his memory. The show ran for 22 years in the U.K. is now on tour and still plays to packed houses. Through the sale of the Original cast recording people who would have never heard of have been motivated to watch the film of his life and download his music--all of which profits his survivors. Do you think he would have had a problem with a show overhearing audience members say, "I never really got how amazing Richie Valens was." You want facts? Watch an A&E biography. If you want to why Valens was a rising superstar, factually true or not, see "Buddy!"
I like this guy .I have seen him in different things and like his acting . I have only seen him a in a few roles but he did great in them . I like the singing part ,the dancing not as much lol but he can really sing I think .Also he is very handsome I think .He is all good in my book
Ya, I know, I was there , at the second to last show in Fort Dodge,Ia. Richie gave a great performance, and yes, He used his Strat, and He knew how to play it . That show was so great, and it still haunts me all these later...poppa

You can't front this guy too much. He had a director telling him how to play Ritchie, a choreographer telling him how to move, a music director telling him how to stylize the song, and a costume designer telling him what to wear. True, his voice is a lot more aggressive than Rities, but still, that only makes this 20% his fault. JMHO

In fact there is a documentary here on this site that shows a photo of his mother, sisters,and brothers at the gravesite on May. His sister said that the picture was taken on the birthday that he missed, plus if you look up the day the music died on here you can find the original radio broadcasts where they list the ages of Buddy, Ritchie, and J.P.

Ritchie didn't dress like that, the actor here is portraying a very stereotypical mexican person, Ritchie wasn't mexican, he lived in Pacoima, California. His father wasn't mexican. Ritchie played his guitar on stage during the winter dance party, and didn't sing in any way like this. This is an insult to Ritchie.
