I have been very curious about this for 50 years! Could not find ANY BOOKS that told of this process...all I ever could find called it a papermache process...lol...I knew that was a lie or pure ignorange. Now that I know what is involved I truely admire the artisans soooo much more. I appreciate the pieces even more...and marvel at them. So labor intensive. Thank you sooo much.
so this is an early form of composites (!!!) as an artform(! =only one? yeah but come on its japanese handicraft...). Impressive to say the least. And that being on multiple waaaay different standpoints of appreciation!!! Humbled, thank you very much
