    Great to see you back Doug! Didn’t know about that Screen preferences on Ibrowse 🤯 Would be nice to see a Ibrowse with CSS capabilities. Now we get faster Accelerators such as PiStorm and Vampire there really is no excuse. I use my Amigas more than a PC nowadays. Cheers 🍻

      That would be cool to have full compatibility with modern websites. PiStorm could likely handle it

    You'd save a heckuva lot of precious vertical space if you switched your navigation toolbar to icons only. I updated to iBrowse 2.5 way back in 2022, I think after watching your video on it. Good to know I'll be able to grab this one at no additional cost.

      IBrowse is amazing but there are better options. Use Classilla on Mac OS 9. For PPC Macs running earlier OSX use InterWeb PPC. Both are better than IBrowse, not that this takes anything away from the effort put into IBrowse and AmiSSL.

    This should be $10-$15 software. HTML 4 only. To browse the internet on an Amiga is a curiosity nowadays especially since ibrowse won’t work with modern websites.

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  3 місяці тому +4

      I get it... But I do think $29.95 is fair. A lot of work goes into it, and the AmiSSL seems fairly unique to the Amiga community.

      Not sure, you shouldn't forget that the amount of people actually buying this are very few. So to compensate for the time, you probably do need a bit of a steep price. We're so used to free software these days, that we always seem to forget how much time actually costs.

    I wish all the best for the devs and those that purchased. This costs too much though. Consider its costs versus OS4, AmigaForever and the free iBrowser versus the paid version of iBrowse...... what do you actually get? Personally I think AmiFox is better way to go and i'd love to see more love for it. It will only get better, it supports modern features and you can set up your own Amifox server.

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  3 місяці тому +1

      Yes, AmiFox is neat, but not quite real time. I do like to support devs, but they need to drop the price to a reasonable level

      Using, maintaining or even buying an Amiga ain't cheap these days. I think it's money well spent. Otherwise I would've given up on Amiga already and be surfing on the Pi that I took from the PiStorm.

    What was I doing on the web on my Amiga? Well, I was working on a way to access Twitter and have it look relatively normal with iBrowse until Space Karen took over and screwed up the API (one of the many reasons why I stopped using Twitter altogether). The free API version only allows you to post tweets now, and I wanted to use the API since that was a way to avoid getting ads. :(

    I still have the original disks for installing 1.12a. Tried to upgrade on the web site the other day, but it asked for the key file, which the installation doesn't produce.
    Must be the a part of the 1.12a version?

    • @10MARC

    Thanx for this vid. iBrowse is pretty decent for the hardware as it is. I mean, my 68030 A1200 just isn't going to run modern sites, but this is impressive...
    For the longest time tho, I kept saying it was just too expensive for hobbyists. So when it finally went on sale, I decided to support the devs.

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  3 місяці тому

      That's wonderful! I hope the Devs see this post and realize that what I have been telling them all along is probably true. Cut the price in half, and they will probably quadruple their sales, which makes them more money, gives them a larger user base and spreads good will.

    You really do need networking on an Amiga as almost all software/drivers/firmware/updates is delivered through the internet. Long gone are the days of physical media-even for Amigas. Yes I know some products include a floppy disk(s), but that is less and less common IMO. I bought IBrowse a couple years ago and was surprised to receive a free upgrade. I was prepared to pay. They know many think it is too expensive, but its their software and their choice for what to charge.

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  3 місяці тому

      Valid points. We can either pay it or not! Moving data is easy on the A600 and A1200 with the PCMCIA CF card adapters, but certainly not as easy on the other machines! I have a mapped network drive on all my Amiga's to make it easy to move stuff

    I have had exactly the same experience with web browsing as you Doug, with the Amiga outperforming the otherwise lovely Power Mac G4 running OS 9, simply because of certificates. Such a shame (for the Mac), but also cool the Amiga still has an advantage here. In fact, there are even some Mac-related sites I use on the Amiga because it's so much easier on there :D

    • @10MARC
      @10MARC  3 місяці тому +1

      Well... To put it bluntly... Netsurf simply does not work. I have tried it multiple times over the past six years and if I can get it to bring up one or two webpages before it stops functioning I consider myself lucky.
      Even when it sort of works, you need a 68060, Vampire or PiStorm to make it doing anything. I love the idea of it, but I have met nobody who actually can use it.
      Do you use it and are you successful?
