  • Now for another full playthrough, this time of Falcom's second (that's right, 2nd) interactive adventure game, Asteka.
Once again, I was the one who did the translating so it may or may not be perfect, but I tried to make it as accurate as possible (there are a couple lines that don't seem to make sense, but I think that's just the game being iffy, rather than my translation being wrong).
    My thoughts:
As someone who enjoys treasure hunting adventure stories this hits closer to my preferences than Death Trap did, but I feel that Death Trap was still the better game and the better story. This one seems to go kind of fast and right as you finally start getting into it, it already ends (which is kind of funny considering Falcom's games nowadays).
Visually it's also, umm... a bit of here and there with some images traced straight from real life, while others are obviously just drawn, and as there is no consistency between what kind of images are traced (such as only pictures in magazines and posters) it kind of feels messy.
Quite honestly, I think this game is skippable as far as adventure games go as there are plenty of better graphical adventure games out there by this point (talking about the year 1985, not the current year).

Is there a translation patch available for this game, do you know?

Unfortunately, I don't know. If I knew of one I would have used that, instead of self-translating the entire thing... But it never hurts to search. Someone might have made a translation patch which is now simply lost in the interwebs somewhere.

@@bulleteyegames I did some pretty extensive searching. For a sec I thought your copy was patched, but then I realized you were typing in Japanese and it was just a well edited video haha.
Maybe one day we'll get some AI trained that can do some good translation patches on games. Could open entire worlds for people

@@wardrichyeah, that would be cool, and I would otherwise make patches for the games I've played myself... it's just that I don't really know how to.

@@bulleteyegames Same. If I knew how to do that stuff I'd be willing to even just get some crappy-ish Google Translate-style patches done (with explicit notes that it was Google Translated) so at least the games become somewhat playable for others.

@@wardrichthat's why I figured, the least I could do after translating the game for myself, was to record and translate the recording for others to watch.
