for decades, Surfboards have been evolving. but not only boards, also fins.
First, the single, then the twin fins, the thruster and the quad. That’s the main fin set ups
    The Single
The ancestor of them all. Back in the days, when guys were riding tree trunk at 10 on the same wave, some of them came up with an idea. “ Why not put a fin on it, just to avoid killin with our 50 kg board ?¿ ooh great idea ! let’s do it ” and here it started !
    Pros
Super fast because you only have one fin which means less drag. This huge fin will also give you more hold. You will basically draw big and long curves with this bad boy
    Cons :
It is not super quick to turn, so not super maneuverable. Usually on longboards or retro surfboards, be ready to cruise and draw long lines.
    The Twin
Brought to the big stage by the 4 times World champ Mark Richards back in the days, he showed the world the performance of this set up against his opponents surfing single fin.
Pros : It brings more control and pivot more easily than the single fin and you are still able to generate a lot of speed !
    Cons :
Get very loose when pushing hard on the rail in heavy conditions. But nowadays, you have solutions to solve this like...
    The Thruster
Thanks to mister Simon Anderson in the 80s, the thruster is now the most famous and high performance set up !
    Pros :
Gives you control and stability for quick turns and progressive surfing. you ‘ll be able to push super hard in your turns, and the middle fin will help you keep your rail engaged to not slide out.
    Cons :
The middle fin creates drag, slowing you down compared to the first two set up.
    The Quad
The quad has been created to fill the gap between the thruster and the twin.
    Pros :
It provides good control and speed. so the best of both worlds ! You have two fins on both sides to keep your rail engaged and you don’t have a central fin dragging the board. The front and rear fins are pretty much aligned.
    Cons
Can feel a bit loose and sometimes a bit hard to turn as well. depends on the position of the plugs

I guess it all depends on conditions and boards but I find myself using a quad most of the time. If you pair the right board with the right quad setup it will feel almost the same as a thruster except that in critical sections/barrels you can hold a better line and more easily gain speed or hold a higher line in a barrel.

I stay away from single fin.
Could be a shark. Could be an unresponsive board you can’t generate speed on.

      @surfmoustache  3 роки тому +1

Haha, hopefully not 🤞! Yes it is not as responsive but still nice on big and long walls

@@surfmoustache amazing for nose riding, but then again a thruster does as well.
I just want a board set up with every type of fin lol. It’s addicting

@@krispewkrem3 I agree, I think I could find a spot for a couple more boards in my quiver without any problem 😂

mark richards invented the twin? learn your history man. And you show a picture of a traditional fish instead of an MR twin.
