As someone that doesn't know anything about color-grading, this video was very insightful providing me a look into the mind of a video editor. You did a great job explaining why you were making the decisions presented in the video. Thank you!

I love the look you ended up with there!
Curious why you prefer to work in a rec709 timeline VS Davinci Wide Gamut. A lot of colorists I follow take advantage of the control and extra information the wide gamut color space offers while creating the grade and use a CST at the end to convert to rec709. Any particular reason why you would create your grade in the very limited 709 space?
Great job on putting this together btw!

This is partially to not get in the weeds of talking color space for this video. While some people are very familiar with the various color spaces and CST, many other could get very confused. So I kinda figured for the general public this would be the easiest workflow to understand. Thank you the comment! I really appreciate the kind words 🙌👊✌️

Can you give me any tips on what do use when I have Gopro footage that looks really washed out? The camera is actually setup on a scope mount, and I'm getting washed out colors, and having a hard time color grading in Divinci Resolve I'm pretty new to all this also. Thank you!

I shot 1.5 TB of Footage on the 6k pro in Full 6k Braw Film Gen 5. Its a client project and I need to deliver it in the best quality possible for uploading on a website through Vimeo. I would like to color grade the footage in DaVinci and export it to After Effects while maintaining all the quality in 6k resolution for editing.
What would be the best project settings and color space transform from start to finish? Blackmagic Gen 5 Color Space and Blackmagic Film Gen 5 Gamma to Davinci Wide Gamut and Davinci Intermediate and then that to Rec 709 and Gamma 2.4 / Cineon Film Log?
Should I put the CTS in the start, end or middle?
Can I deliver in Rec 709 as color space and Cineon Film Log as Gamma and still have it displayed nicely on all displays even tho it’s Cineon and not Gamma 2.4?
What would be the best render settings or way to export the footage 6k lossless to after effects?
I would really appreciate your answer!

I think you are referring to a video where there is a CST node converting to Cineon Film Log before the Film look Lut node. You combine the two nodes into a compound node and then reduce key output. That method is used for log or Rec 709 footage. This is BRAW, so it's different.

I believe there are scientific ways of accomplishing a look and creative ways of accomplishing a look. I am very close with a firm here that does every single Netflix original trailer. It would blow your mind what I have seen their colorists do to achieve a desired look. They encourage breaking the rules and to let creativity lead... I do appreciate and understand both of your opinions but there are many different opinions in this industry about "right or wrong" but the truth is there is no "right or wrong" in creativity
