- NOTE: GO TO SETTINGS ON YOUR TV AND DISABLE HDMI-CEC...THIS MAY WORK BUT NOT ALWAYS. On the Vizio IT IS suppose to be disabled already. (but its not) This may correct the problem you are having. However, in my case the Firestick still has Same issues on other TVs in my house (different than Vizio) that I cant resolve. Good luck.
Amazon's Fire TV Stick with Voice Search Remote.
I purchased this Item with the intention of doing a product review. However, the voice remote failed to pair with my TV. The remote would only work intermittently. Amazon's tech support was very helpful but they could not resolve the issue either.

Ok, it's April 30, 2017 and after trying every suggestion on youtube, I couldn't get my remote to pair with my Firestick, after doing a factory restore to the stick. This is what finally worked: Remove the batteries from the remote...unplug the power to the stick for 60 seconds...reconnect the power to the Firestick and when the Amazon logo appears on the tv screen, reinsert the batteries into the remote...then hold the 'home' button for 30 seconds and it paired finally. One guy told me I also had to factory restore the remote by holding the left-return-three line buttons down simultaneously for 15 seconds. I did that, but it wouldn't pair until I removed the batteries and power cord like I mentioned at the start of this post...good luck!

Bought one yesterday and work for about 12 hours on trying to figure it out until this morning when I saw this video. Turned the tv on and tried the fire remote , no joy. Watched the video here and it works. Thanks for this as it saved me more headache today

Attempted on Several Tvs - No Effect even after Fac Rest
Solution to UnRecognized Remote which has Been Overriden by Samsung Remote, Just as Your Vizio did.
I connected the device to a laptop and began reading some sys info, and Funny Enough where it should say Firetv Remote - "Samsung Model and Remote" fully displayed and had actually built itself into the firmware.
After Fact Reset, Use an Ethernet Cable to connect your router while plugged into the tv (sorry if your router is not close enough, if you have a wifi rep or sig ext those will work as well)
Plugged in a Dongle Required Bluetooth Keyboard that has a "Home or H" button.
Fact Rest device 1 more time
For me, This allowed me to progress foward on the keyboard to settings, add bluetooth add firetv Remote.
Amber Light Error Gone
Remote Repaired to Device.

I mist Warn you, Your Vizio and My Samsung, Will Override and Repair themselves without having to even go to settings.

You just taught me something I did not know. I happened to be watching my Fire TV on a Visio, went to settings and enabled CEC control and ouala, the Visio remote is controlling the Fire TV (CEC works through the HDMI). Interesting how tech support told you that this was impossible and could not happen.
My Insignia remote works but I did it manually through menu options , settings and then INlink. Saw your video and tried it. Thank you

It's not impossible the same thing happened to me after trying to get my firestick to pair, I watched your video and was surprised to see that my Vizio remote worked better than my firestick remote. Thanks for the video.
Same thing happened to me. I just used my tv remote to navigate to settings and went to remote and paired the fire stick remote back to the stick. Works great.

this exact thing is going on with me as well!! I have a Vizio and thought my fire stick was broke until I saw this video and tested my own Vizio remote on the fire stick! that was it!! my regular Tv remote has officially took over!
Just so you all know, if your TV has CEC enabled, it will be able to control HDMI devices. You can do this also with consoles. I turned it off and tried to sync the fire remote but no dive.

I bought mine in August 2019 for my bedroom and the voice control doesn't work. I purchased a new one for my living room 2 days ago. The voice control works perfectly. Now I love it. Wonder if I could get a replacement from Amazon?

Try holding the options button down (just right of the home and it has the 3 lines stacked horizontally) for 10 to 15 seconds and then retest the remote. That has worked for me every time the remote gets out of sync. Hope that works for you!
This happened to me with my Sony Bravia. I did figure out how to disable & enable the HDMI control. Then with the TV remote I went into Setting on the FireStick and paired the FireTV remote with the FireStick by following the on-screen instructions: which included holding the HOME button on the FireTV Remote; then selecting “Pair” as a final confirmatory step. Now they BOTH work.

stick worked great for a few days and now nothing works. Tried everything to fix it...almost returned it. Tried new batteries and would you believe it was just the batteries. Hard to believe the batteries were only good for a week. Everyone, try the batteries too. Hard to see the battery compartment, just push on the indentation on the back. Worked for me. Good luck.

Hello from NJ and after following your instructions my tv remote did take over, something came across the tv Phillips that relayed that a HDM12 is needed .

I also have the same situation with my Fire TV except my Fire TV remote works but my Phillips TV Remote also works and works better than the Fire TV.
I had the exact problem just now but it was an easy fix. Take out the batteries on the Alexa control (not the Vizio control) and then place them back in the control. Everything but the voice should immediately start working again. Unplug the power to the stick and plug back in. Voilà (Vwala).
Same exact issue with a Sony Bravia KDL-32L5000 HD non-smart tv, the tv's remote works the controls, cannot use the voice remote even though it says its the only device synced. Very bizarre and annoying, was losing my mind trying to get the fire stick setup until I found your video, I don't understand how a IR remote took over?! But it does....must be something in the TV's firmware? Debating whether to wait for a fix or to just return it...
I had this same problem. Then as I was scouring the instructions on Amazon's device webpage I saw this little line, "Remove and reinsert the batteries for your remote or controller. Both positives should be pointing up toward the top of the remote, despite whatever the battery insertion markings might indicate." The markings on my remote showed the positives both pointing down. Once I switched the batteries around it worked just fine. Still, that's a pretty big manufacturing error, and the fact that Amazon seems to have known about the error but sent the product anyway is seriously disappointing.

I just installed my firestick. I've tried to reset it as well as pressing home 10 to 15 secs. Nothing worked. I cant use app I havent set up the firestick yet.

New Fire tick 2021 Plus installed yesterday on 1-Oct-2022.When we give voice command "Alexa play Sony Sab TV", it plays Sony Sab TV -OK.
But, when we say "Alexa play Zee Business", its says "could not find Zee Business" When we say "Alexa play Colors Marathi", its says "could not find Colors Marathi" So voice recognition is there but the TV does not play the channel. Factory Reset also done. All new updates done. Tried re-setting remote holding 3 buttons - did not work. Still problem not solved. Any solution ??
I encountered the same thing, whereas the fire stick with voice option failed to communicate with the fire stick; the regular fire stick without voice option, appeared to work and pair just fine; after watching this video, i removed the batteries from one of my hdtv's (Vizio) and now the fire stick with voice works just fine. Bottom line, if you have a fire stick with voice AND you have a Vizio HDTV remote, REMOVE THE BATTERIES FROM THE VIZIO REMOTE. You will be able to continue setup of your fire stick using the fire stick remote with voice capability. There appears to be some sort of conflict between the Vizio remote and the fire stick with voice capability built in; this does not appear to effect the basic fire stick without voice.

I know right...it is just some bizarre glitch in their coding that only affects certain tv models. I've actually asked Amazon to watch my video...they didn't believe me either. Thanks for the response...i hope you get it worked out.

Its the same with any TV that has CEC.. I have a Sony and the TV remote controls the Fire stick and I'm still able to use the voice remote. maybe the voice remote needs paired to the stick.

david kase yes they did send me a new firestick but it did not correct the problem. The new Fire stick does work but only on a TV that is not a Vizio. it is obviously a software glitch. Thank you for the question.
Remove the batteries,rough up the contacts very slightly with the flat part of a small knife,then clean up with a qtip wet with rubbing alcohol.Dry contacts with a fresh qtip,good to go.
I have a Samsung TV and it was doing the same thing! My tv remote would work but not the Amazon remote! I just got the fire stick so I wasn't sure how to turn it on or pause, fast forward, and so on with my tv remote. I went to "Setting" and then "Controllers and Bluetooth Devices" on the fire stick then "Game Controllers". I had to hold the home button for 10 seconds or so. After I let go of the home button the fire stick remote popped up and I clicked on it to pair. And it worked for me! I read a lot of things that said to hold the home button and other things but it did it did not work until I went to settings. My tv remote still works as well.

I also downloaded the fire stick remote app on my phone. I read that the fire stick goes to sleep after some time and to turn it on your suppose to press any button on the remote but since mine was not paired I had to disconnect the fire stick and reconnect it. I also downloaded the app because my tv remote was not working for a few minutes.

If that doesn't help you, try to change your country on your amazon account to USA, Canada or UK. Mine was listed as Brazil, and the alexa button wasn't even turning the blue light on (it wasn't working, or searching anything, the rest of the buttons were working). Then I changed my country to Canada and restarted my fire tv (unplugged from the power and plugged it back), waited some seconds and a screen with a "contract" or whatever was that, showed up. I just clicked accept and alexa started working. wohoo.
To change your country:
Go to the amazon website of your country (mine was www.amazon.br).
Then: Your Account > Content and devices > Preferences > Country Setting.
Change to USA, Canada or UK. I think it asks for a full address... You can look online and get some random address (like a store address) from these countries.
After that, just restart your fire tv stick and do what I said in the begging.

I did the same thing, I set up my TV remote and eliminated the need for the fire stick remote. No more pulling the batteries out to reconnect to the fire stick.

We bought a new Vizio TV a few years ago and my wife just now took it out of the box....and threw the box away with the remote and the instructions. I've tried everything suggested and cannot get my Alexa voice remote to pair with my tv. I even turned off the HDMI CEC, all to no avail. So disappointed because it took so long to hook up and get all the passwords in sync and the device to pair-- very frustrating! The voice remote is why I bought a new firestick.

I know what you are talking about , Amazon has sent me 2 full units and neither would pair, also they sent another remote and a separate fire stick, neither worked still cannot pair remote, but the app on my phone works fine, except for some stability problems at times. I have given up and just use the phone app. Anybody want to buy two voice remotes don't guarantee they will work. Amazon needs to slow down and do their job to provide a good product. We know why some of the products are defective,and the reason being they are being greedy and trying to keep up with the demand. AMAZON DO YOUR JOB!!!!!!
I've watched a lot of videos here my fire stick is not turning on at all, opened up and the port is tight on motherboard. What else can I do?
On some tv's it will power up without having to plug in the power supply. Have you tried it both ways?
i had the same issue i used my samsung remote on the fire app and went to settings clicked on controllers and Bluetooth devices. Then click amazon fire tv remotes. toggle the the selectiob and click each one follow the directions. I hope this helps.

hey guys i figured it out, every smart tv has something anynet device where your tv remote can controll your device that is plugged in to your hdmi port, simply go in to settings on your tv then system and select anynet + and turn the feature to OFF, should have no problems after that.
My Remote control was "failing" on Samsung TV, it worked just fine on my Sony one, then noticed that by removing any other HDMI Input but the Fire Stick on the Samsung, make it Work flawlessly. just my 2 cents.
eVERY TIME MY REMOTE LOCKS UP. i TAKE OUT ONE OF THE BATTERYS WAIT A FEW SECONDS PUT BACK IN AND IT SEEMS TO WORK AGAIN NO REPAIRING OR ANYTHING WITH THE FIRE ITSELF. FYI

The same thing has happened to me. I got my Fire Stick as a birthday gift last week. My niece's fiance hooked everything up through my Vizio TV and the fire stick was working through my needing to give my password. They had to leave, so I finished putting the password in and connecting it to the internet, and suddenly the remote stopped working. And it has not worked since. I changed the batteries multiple times. I've pressed the Home button the suggested 10 seconds a million times, in front, behind, above, below the TV and...nothing. I've tried every suggestion on every video about the Fire Stick not working and again nothing. The Fire Stick is hooked into the HDMI2 port and my regular TV from HDMI 1. Today I decided to use my original Vizio TV remote to instantly go from one HDMI port to the other so that I could continue trying to fix the Fire Stick. I mistakenly thought I was on my regular TV port and pressed the Vizio remote OK button, and miraculously turned on the Fire Stick. I now am able to move up and down the menus, watch movies, TV shows (which work perfectly), music videos, the works! The only thing I can't do is use the voice remote. But for the time being, that's OK. Thank goodness for Vizio and their wonderful remote! I thought it was a miracle, but obviously it was unexpected technology working imperfectly perfect For me, for you, and hopefully others. Thanks so much. Your video really made my day.

+Tony Whetstone All they did was give me a replacement to the original one. The replacement fire stick Still only works intermittently. The replacement works fine on my other television sets. Personally I think it's just a software issue That they need to correct.
Make sure the flat end of both batteries is against the connectors pointing upward.
Does this work for the 4k?

Hi dear but you haven't try showing on this video the voice on fire tv stick on proper ways, you just demonstrate the voice on fire stick remote is not working, and that wasn't also clear enough, because you need hold the voice button down until Alexa responds but you haven't . Well... you know better, you may tired it but not on this video. Anyways I hope you got your remote replacement from Amazon, they are most likely good in service.
Any TV with any net plus for CEC built into the TV and the remote take their Fire TV remote toss it in the bin and just use that one remotes that one remote will take over full control and you will be able to use in the menu features to swap between the device and other inputs you're welcome
My vizio remote took over my firestick controller also, but both remotes work at the same time, which is weird. My problem is, all of a sudden, after having this firestick since Thanksgiving, Alexa no longer speaks when you call her. I’ll press the voice button to speak to her, and after the tone, the firestick remote blinks a blue light about 10times but Alexa doesn’t speak at all anymore. Tried everything I can think of to fix the problem. Anyone have any ideas?
