It's all exciting to see a boat that has went fromm being in major disrepair to getting closer and closer to becoming a work of art. You and your team of highly skill craftsmen are amazing.
I really enjoy MP's engine work, she's not afraid of anything! Great to see the rudder on the ship. It looks about ready to splash! Happy Sunday, and best wishes for this week!
OOps I lost my post when I went to Google to check the spelling for Portuguese. Anyway. Kudo's to the guy from Colorado. So happy to see him there. What I wanted to say is thoughts of (If I were younger) I'd focus on the Portuguese language for so many reasons. Absolutely nothing like the thought of all that exotic wood laying around the boatyard. This effort is an inspiration. Thank you so much and thank you for explaining all the details. Wow. Just great! ~ from New Hampshire.
I'd be shortening that rudder handle by at least 3 or 4 feet. Does your income from utube pay for all the costs to refit yaba. You've got to have a small fortune invested so far. With all the great craftsmen that have worked on yaba for years now and the cost of materials. For two young people to have the money to do this massive rebuild on thier own just doesn't add up unless you are independently wealthy. You've done an amazing job with the help of some great craftsmen. To be honest when I saw the damage from the marine worms I thought you guys were nuts to even think about saving this boat. But you sure proved me wrong ,yaba looks amazing and I can't hardly wait to see her under full sail. Well done to both of you.A little advise from an old man who was blessed to find a fantastic woman to share my life 43 years ago and counting. If you don't marry that wonderful young woman that's sharing this dream you will be making the biggest mistake of your life. Good ones are hard to find . God bless you both and continue living your dream togeather.
Can’t tell which I liked more. Heat exchanger or rudder. I really like the idiopathic of blue for water yellow for caution. Brilliant. Seeing the rudder in place is so exciting as well. 👍👍
I was involved in the re purposing of an old fishing boat with a hydraulic gearbox and heat exchangers like yours, the cores collapsed, thus converting the hydraulic oil to water 💧 resulting in a dramatic sea rescue. Love your work 😂😅 10.20 am
try using alcohol to help remove water stains. As it evaporates it will draw out the H2O moisture behind it. You will still need to do some sanding but it helps and you might not need to remove so much meat. Love watching your adventure!
I'm excited your several steps closer to launch day.... Still one day at a time... Before you kno it !! You 2 will be turning the key... I love the rudder an the arm of the rudder... Can't wait to see what you both come up with. The engine MJ looks amazing luv...!!
I just thought you chose the colors for the water pump because they looked cool. Did not realize that the colors had some significance. See, we learn something Evey day :-)
A painting suggestion….that white looks pretty good….I forget the exact names of the board placements….keep the hull white. Using blue or green paint the top board one color( blue , green) making one a different shade and the other say darker. At that point where the chamfer is. Then use the colors up top on accent parts. Leaving it mostly white
Hey Yaba, I am excited about both projects. I was thinking, that you guys are going to need a scuba diving compressor to refill dive tanks and put that in the proper area on the ⛵ boat for all the diving 🤿 y'all going to do. And I want to come to your location and do some scuba diving off your Sailboat.
MP ….there’s no way around it. You are ADORABLE. I could watch you all day. You guys are making great progress….soon…..you will be floating in the ocean with your gorgeous yaba !
Wow, if you are interested in Brazilian wooden boat design and craftsmanship, this channel will totally fulfill that craving, exceptional. The engine fresh water cooler rebuild was perfect, right down to the paint job, in this case the casement was freshwater blue, fabulous job guys, truly amazing. Thanks for sharing!
I lived in the Rocky Mountains for 11 years, up west of Rollinsville, which is a little over an hour northwest of Denver. Him not being used to the heat is no joke. When I moved back to Texas in heat over 100F every day for 3 months, I thought I was going to die. So hot there I had to move away (Washington State this time).
The erosion damage to the 'Pintle rod' looks like galvanic corrosion. Perhaps attaching a sacrificial anode to the rod below the water line will keep it pristine and avoid future pitting. It will be very interesting to see how the steering will look when it's finished, that huge tiller will certainly give you some leverage! Lindo trabalho de todos! 😸
@@Arnaud58 Magnesium is better suited to fresh water. Cheaper and much more common zinc anodes are made for shafts starting as small as 1/2", can last 3 to 5 years, and are readily available in Brazil...
@@mikeskelly2356 Good to hear that Mg anodes are common there, I did not know that. "Magnesium is better suited to fresh water" That is exactly what I stated in my original comment (not this line). Mg is the lowest useable anode in the series. So: Best protection but therefore fastest gone.

Great work on the Rudder. It's huge so it must have been a difficult job to do. M.P. some fantastic paint spraying on the engine parts, my finger always ends up numb after using spray cans. Every thing looks wonderful and boy are things coming together fast. I am full of admiration for you all taking on such a big job as Yaba but you are definately getting there. Really enjoyed this episode. Thanks so much for sharing this part of your life with us all. Keep well and safe. James.
That cooler heat exchanger still will be oki u can drill through the copper pipes there is be some deposit inside it just blocking the sear water from passing through. After drilling clean it with some toilet cleaner it will work as good as new
Tip from a welder, don't drag the bead you push the bead. Better penetration and puddle control. And the Rutter is not a good place to worry about a weld....looking great guys
I can remember all the people complaining that Yaba was only fit for firewood in the few few video's. I think they missed the point of buying and restoring Yaba. She sure is looking good now.
Ben, MP ! I've followed the rebuilding of YABA from first time i found out about your project, me, myself, i'm a "Motorman" from my latest education, so when it comes to the engine or parts of the engine. My periscope is raised in intresse and from early start in life together with my middle brother(who is gone now, cancer), we always has tinkle with cars and engine. Our primary car, was a Oldsmobile F85 1964 four doors, with a 385cc V8 and my dad had a Oldsmobile Super 88, 1961 i think it was 400cc, with a basic 325Hp engine.
Not just the electrode but the grinding disc, it must be made of nylon, stainless steel is sensitive to anything made with carbon, can be contaminated and then the oxidation process will start. The welding temperature has to be controled also, Stainless steel is sensitive to high temperature, if exposed to high temperatures (+- above 450oC) it loses its ability to be anticorrosive.
By welding that shaft on one side it caused the shaft to warp in that direction. If you turn it you will notice that is drew or pulled tight where you welded it. You can put in between two rollers and check it and relieve the stress in the weld by heating and cooling to straighten the shaft out again. It may not be all that important since it's a pin but if you need to straighten it out again you can see Keith Fenner on youtube to see how he straightens drive shafts with heat torch. Great work.
Keith is too high tech for Yaba. Neico would just make a beach fire , heat the shaft in it and bang it a few times with a sledgehammer to straighten it out .
Both :0). Wow really coming along now. The rudder in place looks magnificent nice wok team. I like the colour coding on the engine it will make spotting leaks etc quicker and easier to see not that there going to be any. You must be feeling quite excited now that everything is coming together. Bit of a bummer re window trim but if Weather anything like here it does it own thing when it wants although Mum Nature seems a bit more Pissed Off than usual lately. Be interesting to see what ya do with the Tiller Arm closer to finishing. Keep at it now. ;0)
Outstanding choice of safety yellow for the pulleys. Blue typically is used for electrical lines, but we'll overlook that for today. Outstanding progress as usual.
If you happen to get any water stains on other pieces of wood, oxalic acid will remove them easily. Just mix it up into a solution and spread it over the entire surface (not just the stain). Rinse it off once it's dry, neutralize with a little baking soda in water, rinse thoroughly again, and you'll be ready to sand and finish it once it's dry.
Gudgeons and pintles is the english terms for the rudder hardware . Nice job and the boat hull looks great , amazing , excelent . MP's engine paint job can't wait to see it completed and humming along !

That Heat Exchanger rebuild was IMPRESSIVE!!!! That is a nice feeling having all newly rebuilt!!
