  • In this episode, Don Higgins and Terry discuss the summer solstice and its impact on wildlife, particularly whitetail deer. They also talk about Don's recent experience of hanging a stand using a Quiet Cat bike. The conversation then shifts to the upcoming travel schedule for Don in July. They explore the physiological effects of the summer solstice on soybeans and whitetail deer, including antler growth, shedding velvet, and the timing of the rut. They also address questions about deer injuries and their impact on antler development. The episode concludes with a question about who will take over Chasing Giants when Don retires, to which Don responds that he has no plans to retire anytime soon. In this part of the conversation, Don and Terry discuss their plans for the future of the podcast and their hunting endeavors. They also answer questions from listeners about custom hunting gear, seatbelt warning suppression devices, and concealment for hunting blinds. They emphasize the importance of the hunter community in developing innovative hunting products and share their favorite custom gear. They also discuss the challenges of purchasing land and the importance of conducting thorough research before making a purchase. Finally, they provide updates on the availability of their new lithium batteries and the success of Lester's Feet, a charity organization they support.

I like the segment of your podcast where you were talking about raccoon problems, and how there is several different ways of dealing with it, but you weren't gonna stick your foot in your mouth talking about it. As a man who married the farmers daughter, I was taught early on, a very specific method on how to remove large numbers of raccoons very effectively. I have a feeling you might have learned the same trick Don......and I won't stick my foot in my mouth either!! Hahaha

@@brandonbyers5664 I can't risk telling you how, on here, to exactly do it. Maybe just Google fly bait and raccoons.

Code brown fertilizer, with sock and in an asio bag. lol. The chemical breakdown, should be a sticker, or pamphlet for the realworld sale item. Nice to add to the binder for easy access.

Don have you tried using Hinder to help keep the deer out of your beans? Just mix it up in your sprayer and spray it on.

So i question your opinion on saying there isn't a Second rut. So are you saying that if a doe is not bred during a certain window in fall, they dont re-cycle and enter into a second estrous until she is bred? To me not only have i seen second and third ruts, but i have a hard time believing that all does are bred when they first come into estrus. You would have way too many does without fawns every spring. Sorry guys. I guess we all can have our own opinions but this has been proven and vetted that there is indeed more than one rut.

@@chasinggiantswithhigginsou6147 so it's a technicality? You yourself stated that a doe can cycle 30 days later in this video. Ok so there is a rut but a doe can re cycle and be bred. That I believe is what would be called a second rut( 30 days later) . And you also answered your own question about fawns. If they reach the proper weight they can go into estrus. What happens if that is in January?? Welp. Guess what she will be bred. Third rut.
Having one enclosure in an isolated area no matter how long you studied doesn't prove a thing. Sorry man, got to go against you on this one. Support alot of what you preach but not this. I may not shoot 200" deer like you but I certainly am not blind to he fact of what I see in the woods and what vetted science says over a broad spectrum and not just one little enclosure .

To add to what you were saying about arborvitaes, Green Giant Arborvitaes are deer resistant and they won't touch them, they also get to be about 60ft tall so no matter how small you get them make sure they have at least 8ft width between each tree, they are a great option for privacy and screen cover
