I love to imagine some Japanese dude sitting at his computer one day then checking his accounts and finding out they just sold several hundred copies of their game all of a sudden.
I'm going to break your bubble, but they always talk shit about each other when the person isn't there. Usually it's Matt and Pat shitting on Woolie though.
You have the power to change it, you'll have to meet up with senators and congressmen and build up that public appeal again. In time you'll be president once again with enough influence to do anything. NOW GO! LET THE LEGEND COME BACK TO LIFE!
Since we're in the topic of Japanese stuff let me ask you guys your opinion of cowboy bebop. I discovered it resently and it's become my favorite show of all time, and I don't really watch anime
It's a pretty good show, not like most anime of it's genre. The Best Friend probably love it along with all the other 90s anime golden children (the Evas, the Triguns, the Bebops, the Utenas, Princess Mononoke, and Kevin Bacon).
Bebop was my gateway drug into more anime, just have to find the decent ones. They recommend some good ones on their podcast if you're willing to listen.
Man if you watch cowboy bebop that would be great, It's that one anime that you can actually learn from and take that information from the anime into real life. The voice acting is great! Heck there's even a movie.
I swear you guys are thee only group of friends I actually watch on youtube you guy are actually the only thing I watch when I get on youtube I'm always like did they make a new video yet? XD keep it up guys you never get old. You deserve more subscribers
Am I the only one that never uses consumables in games even when the game is heavily designed around the idea that you'll be using them a lot? For example i've been playing dishonored lately and i've pretty much exclusively been using the strangle, teleport and darkvision because i can use those infinitely. Despite the fact that i'm rolling in mana potions i refuse to use the bigger spells because then i would have to use a potion to be back to full mana. It's fucking stupid but i can't stop.
you arent the only one. in fact, coincidentally, i just finished dishonored again for the "no kill" ending after not playing it for about a year. and i never used a mana potion other than about 2 times when i figured i might as well possess a rat to make my job easier. i know that I'll never run out and im supposed to use the potions but i always feel like im running low even though i have max potions constantly. i only used level 2 dark vision and level 2 blink. of course thats all you really need
Same. Dishonored is a fun game. Same lol. I do this with Dark Souls or any RPG really. I fuckin' HOARDE items just incase I may or may not do that. In fact, I bought RE4 because of the playthrough. Guess what? I have 6 of every grenade. And like 5 first aid spray lol
You aren't the only one. In fire emblem awakening I only use vulnearies in an emergency and I now have a hoard of them despite the fact that I'm past the point where they've lost use.
The "heroic mercenary agency with full support staff, but only one field agent" seems to be a pretty common trope. They also seem inclined to fight their way through hell and high water to do something really specific and/or mundane (deliver a pickle sandwich, unclog a drain, fix a jukebox, etc.).
It is short, but I love it. Plus, there's a hard mode, which not only has upgraded enemies (think like Kirby), but also has a completely different plot.
Astebreed made me realize that Asymptote is totally a cool reference for a rival character because an asymptote is the line a graph approaches closer and closer to infinity. Although I suppose a lot of main characters exceed their rivals at the end.
Thomas Dixon I remember when trolls were simply called attention whores instead of being glorified like they are now. Those were truly the good old days.
awesome video. Astebreed looks like Sin & Punishment and Gunhound has a rockin OST. also, you mentioned Senko no Ronde! you guys should totally fight each other in that game and see who the best bullet hell player is.
Astebreed reminds me a lot of that Capcom arcade game Side Arms. But a revamped, 3D version using more than one camera angle. Idk if anyone remembers that game. It looks fantastic though.
My favorite part about the best friends is that they always shit talk the people who arent there at the moment, Pat and Matt shit talk Liam and Woolie about Anime geek and the Wollie hole, liar, in prison, Matt and Liam about Pats mom, etc etc.
Aw, I was expecting to see Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae too, considering the Zaibatsu love character action games. In anycase, if you guys haven't played it, GO PLAY THAT TOO, it's from the same site!
Front Mission Gun Hazard! anyone who likes Metal Warriors or Cybernator MUST try that one, it's just like that but with cool RPG stuff. Even though the turn based Front Missions are really cool FMGH has a special place in my heart
24:17 "you're gonna be sorry if you don't give it a name." I swear matt copied that exact same line from a previous video. I think it was either labyrinth x or super Mario 3d world.
13:30 "What's there to understand about 'swish, swish, stab'? It's a fucking sword, dude; it's not a fighter jet" Wait, but my sword is a fighter jet (kind of), what does it mean?
is astebreed really indie though? edelweiss has already made two really well-received games before astebreed that were both published by capcom astebreed also got a fair bit of hype prior to release and kero blaster is made by pixel so... i guess indie in terms of development but everyone knows who he is not trying to to start some kind of relgious argument here so dont pick a fight with me i am just curious gunhound ex and astebreed both on my steam wishlist already so why isnt kero blaster on steam yet?
MAchinima episodes are like ten minutes long. I'd much rather they do the longer one offs here than wait on Machinima to decide when to put out their videos.
There are 2 unwinnable fights in Symphonia, as far as I can remember. The first boss in front of the tower of Martel in the beginning of the game and the one against Yggdrasil in the Tower of Salvation. Both stop you after a set amount of time/HP passes (except if you use a certain glitch against Vidarr.)
You really want that on your tombstone? Well i want mine to say "i hope you all regret not laughing at my puns when i was alive, that was a grave mistake".
I love to imagine some Japanese dude sitting at his computer one day then checking his accounts and finding out they just sold several hundred copies of their game all of a sudden.
So this is when Pat goes to the dentist or something and they all talk shit about him. Then post it online, completely defeating the purpose.
Us gingers gotta stick together.
#LavaNation
cant tell if new or troll
I'm going to break your bubble, but they always talk shit about each other when the person isn't there. Usually it's Matt and Pat shitting on Woolie though.
whats the point of talking shit if they dont find out
What the fuck is the point of subscribing if UA-cam doesn't tell me about the literal hypest shit popping off? Step the fuck up UA-cam.
You have the power to change it, you'll have to meet up with senators and congressmen and build up that public appeal again. In time you'll be president once again with enough influence to do anything. NOW GO! LET THE LEGEND COME BACK TO LIFE!
Mahogany Table *words that kill can be heard in the background*
Hyperdimension Neptunia mention.
I can die happy now.
I freaked out when Matt said that. I think he also mentioned it in one of the Man vs Wild episodes as well.
Pretty sure they mentioned it in Barkley as well
RandomPersonaFan Yes and I splooshed then too.
Since we're in the topic of Japanese stuff let me ask you guys your opinion of cowboy bebop. I discovered it resently and it's become my favorite show of all time, and I don't really watch anime
Cowboy Bebop is the best, and the Zaibatsu has definitely expressed their approval of it and recommended it.
It's a pretty good show, not like most anime of it's genre. The Best Friend probably love it along with all the other 90s anime golden children (the Evas, the Triguns, the Bebops, the Utenas, Princess Mononoke, and Kevin Bacon).
Cowboy Bebop is awesome. I had a government teacher in high school who loved it and even named his welsh corgi Ein.
*sees Safety Dance recommended next to the video*
I like dat. Dat's good. Everything is better with that song. Want it played at my funeral.
GET IN THE ROBOT, WOOLIE
I swear you guys are thee only group of friends I actually watch on youtube you guy are actually the only thing I watch when I get on youtube I'm always like did they make a new video yet? XD keep it up guys you never get old. You deserve more subscribers
when its been three years, and you're still watching this :3
Am I the only one that never uses consumables in games even when the game is heavily designed around the idea that you'll be using them a lot? For example i've been playing dishonored lately and i've pretty much exclusively been using the strangle, teleport and darkvision because i can use those infinitely. you are not the only one. I freak out if there is even a single dot missing on my mana bar in that game.
The only time I'll use any consumable even ammunition is if im standing next to the item im about to use.
You aren't the only one. In fire emblem awakening I only use vulnearies in an emergency and I now have a hoard of them despite the fact that I'm past the point where they've lost use.
Thank you best friends for bringing astebreed and gunhound to the masses. those games need to do so amazing
Did someone say Tales of Symphonia?!!
The "heroic mercenary agency with full support staff, but only one field agent" seems to be a pretty common trope. They also seem inclined to fight their way through hell and high water to do something really specific and/or mundane (deliver a pickle sandwich, unclog a drain, fix a jukebox, etc.).
I swear I thought they had a "shenanigans" meter in the top right during Astebreed, and it would determine how unfair the bullet patterns became.
I wanted a giant humanoid robot to come out and take off its robot face and say
*It was ME DIO all this time!*
Mmm, I kinda wanna play Kero Blaster... but it looks like it's short and has no replay value. -kinda like pat-
It is short, but I love it. Plus, there's a hard mode, which not only has upgraded enemies (think like Kirby), but also has a completely different plot.
I loved this episode soooo much, they need to do more of this!
That Astabreed game looked really good.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REPPING ASTEBREED.
You're playing ASTEBREED? Awesome, by far my favorite game of the year so far.
I like how they made matts voice echo in the beginning when he did his japanese pronunciation of astebreed
Man, Best Friends play Symphonia Chronicles would be sick. It doesn't even need to be a full playthrough.
Astebreed made me realize that Asymptote is totally a cool reference for a rival character because an asymptote is the line a graph approaches closer and closer to infinity. Although I suppose a lot of main characters exceed their rivals at the end.
Did anybody else clicked the thumbnail and immediately looked at the video time length to think "46 minutes? This is gonna be so good."?
Just when I was bored looking for something entertaining...this godsend graces my sub box
A full LP of Kero Blaster would be AWESOME!
Surprise surprise Woolie is wrong again, Einhander indeed did have different camera angles on certain stages.
"If you rush too far ahead you get nailed back down" - Willie
actually very wise words
Willie? Like groundskeeper w... HOLY SHIT GROUNDSKEEPER WOOLIE CONFIRMED
"Let us buy it! Don't just sell it at Comic-con once."
Story of my life.
man, never expected these guys to start talking about the book Dune. love that book. was mentioned at 24:25
Holy shit the orange-haired girl in Gunhound is so adorable.
hey do you guys think you could play more kero blaster?
Man, that black cat is such a bro. I wish I could have a co-worker as cool as him.
Remember when there were just 2 best friends and we didn't know what they looked like? Those were the good days.
They were good days no doubt, but not the only ones.
remember back when trolls weren't super obvious? those were the days.
I wasn't around for those days so I can't really speak on that but I think this is one of the best (if not THE best channel) on UA-cam.
Thomas Dixon I remember when trolls were simply called attention whores instead of being glorified like they are now.
Those were truly the good old days.
You guys playing Kerro Blastter reminded me that you werte named dropped by RockLeeSmile in an episode of the NLSS
Gunhound was totally like a 2d titanfall. The useless foot soldiers and the punch that makes the robot fly forward. Loved it.
42:08
As someone who loves Metal Slug, I believe you guys are thinking of the Dropshot, not the Enemy Chaser.
But yeah, fuck the Dropshot.
I thought that was odd too, then Woolie called it the Dropshot at about 45:48. Dropshot's the worst.
awesome video. Astebreed looks like Sin & Punishment and Gunhound has a rockin OST.
also, you mentioned Senko no Ronde! you guys should totally fight each other in that game and see who the best bullet hell player is.
Where is the pump from Barkley shut up and slam? I thought I saw him in the comment section, but I'm not sure it was him.
I'm grateful the UA-cam alogrithm pushed this out.
I wonder how much sales of these 3 games shot up thanks to this video. Cause I just bought Astebreed.
Thank you, based Best Friends Zaibatsu.
There are actually a handful of Japanese Indie games on Steam. Hardly anyone talks about them though. Recettear is pretty rad.
7:25 And now it's confirmed, Pat is one of us PC gamers.
Feels like you guys are playing a bunch of No More Heroes minigames!
Rad, very first game is Astebreed. Was looking into this on Steam. Let us beginu!
6:22 "voice of Daniel O'Brian" what the shit?? Is that the same guy from Cracked? I need to know
Maya the Bee actually now has a new 3D series that runs in Belgium, as far as I know. Don't know bout anywhere else.
Oh shit, you guys actually did Astebreed.
I'm impressed.
Oh yeah, Gunhound too. Nice.
I just looked up the game Einhander Matt mentioned, and it turned out it was one of the few demos for PS1 I used to play a lot when I was a kid!
Aw, I was expecting to see Mitsurugi Kamui Hikae too, considering the Zaibatsu love character action games. In anycase, if you guys haven't played it, GO PLAY THAT TOO, it's from the same site!
33:44 Omega?! What are *you* doing here?
(for those unaware, Omega is a boss in Cave Story)
I had no idea kero blaster came out thanks guys!
Kero Blaster looks like an 80's arcade game, fun!
Wassup 2014!? Man.. you guys need to do more Indie Japanese games.
Hey the Zeong and Neo Zeong didn't have legs either and they were hype.
These games are rad, especially for indie games, but wheres the volume?
I still play Astebreed, fucking awesome game.
I thought that said Assbleed.
Was that frog one at the end made by the same person who did cave story?
Edit: Oh never mind they referred to him while playing it
I totally played Asterbreed at PAX East this year!
All of these looked super fun.
I love that the boss in the keroblaster game looks like two haros stuck together.
I'm almost certain the environment in Astebreed was just a pre-rendered movie.
Now I want to see Two Best Friends play ZOE 2, it would be glorious=D
I'd love to see you guys play Sine Mora. It's really pretty and cool.
So, is Asymptote Esto like the Virgil in Astebreed?
Those StarFox quotes at the beginning, I love it.
Giga beam!!!! Not seen that show in years.
18:48 lmao as soon as I saw the word Cantankerous I knew he was gonna go for an O&A reference.
i hope Kero Blaster gets release on steam soon
I wonder what kind of laptop Matt has. I've been looking for a decent gaming laptop.
I think it was either labyrinth x or super Mario 3d world.
anyone know the shit storm matt mentioned? not sure if i've seen it?
It's the series they did in October the last two years playing horror/scary/creepy games. Matt and Patt's Shitstorm of Scariness.
i ment the particular episode
Sgt_Spork55 Ah, sorry. Haha. No, I have no idea what episode he's talking about. That could be any one of them, really, as Liam said.
The episode he means was specifically a very mysterious Jago
HOOOOOYAAAAAAAAAAAH!
ENDOKEOKEN!
It was Pesadalo. I think it was near the end of the video.
all 3 of these look so cool.
Shit you guys know about tales of Symphonia, that shit was rad and more people need to play it.
Wait, what's the Shitstorm they're talking about?
Asterbreed looked awesome... And that was an indie game?
13:30 "What's there to understand about 'swish, swish, stab'? It's a fucking sword, dude; it's not a fighter jet"
Wait, but my sword is a fighter jet (kind of), what does it mean?
Man that first boss battle made me think of touhou. Also I could watch full LPs of all of those
is astebreed really indie though?
edelweiss has already made two really well-received games before astebreed that were both published by capcom
astebreed also got a fair bit of hype prior to release
and kero blaster is made by pixel so... i guess indie in terms of development but everyone knows who he is
not trying to to start some kind of relgious argument here so dont pick a fight with me i am just curious
gunhound ex and astebreed both on my steam wishlist already so why isnt kero blaster on steam yet?
>is that what a graboid is?
Oh, Liam, I'm so sorry you were too young to have a childhood.
Did you guys drop machinima? Because you're doing a lot of one-offs that seem like they should be machinima episodes.
MAchinima episodes are like ten minutes long. I'd much rather they do the longer one offs here than wait on Machinima to decide when to put out their videos.
What did he mean by a Tales of Symphonia fight?
There are 2 unwinnable fights in Symphonia, as far as I can remember. The first boss in front of the tower of Martel in the beginning of the game and the one against Yggdrasil in the Tower of Salvation. Both stop you after a set amount of time/HP passes (except if you use a certain glitch against Vidarr.)
I was literally *just* wondering if there were any mimics in this game XD
Just actually beat astebreed before I watched this, game is sick. It's short but god damn its so hype.
Does the astabreed joke just never get old of is it just me?
Thought i would never hear Matt talk about Tales of Symphonia
"WHO NEEDS LEGS!?"
"No. There's no time."
That's exactly what Zeon said when they were building the Zeong.
29:10 Zack & Benny Inc! The hypest business on youtube!
The moment I seen this episode I knew my life was complete.
I was really hoping this would be another montage of smaller shittier indie games
You really want that on your tombstone? Well i want mine to say "i hope you all regret not laughing at my puns when i was alive, that was a grave mistake".
Super Best Friends Play Sengoku Rance when?
aw man i needed this
What episode of Shitstorm was Matt talking about?
Erie, and the graphics aren't that bad.
Ryan Phillips Thank you! I couldn't remember.
All these games look awesome. Too bad I probably won't be good enough to play the first two.
Can you guys do Touhou since you guys are on the topic of doujin shmups.
