cleaned mine for almost a year thanks!!! i didn't even know you can disassemble it looooollll my cap is so disgusting it has these black gunks all over it can't believe I'm still alive drinking all that water lmao
Great video! Was wondering why therthat coffee smell I can't get rid of. After cleaning the parts I soak in vinegar and half water for a couple of hours and the odors disappeared. This is a great looking thermos that does not leak and needs attention like any quality item. Thanks again for this video.
@KleanKanteen ... Do any of those parts offer any adjustability with flow control? My Cafe Cap flowed nicely when I first got it but now it's a little slow / hard to get the beverage through.
The new Cafe Cap 2.0 that works with the TK Wide bottles is awesome. I can fill it with coffee, close the lid and flip it completely upside down without losing a drop of coffee.
Trying reassembling the cap as shown here and when tightening or loosening the cap, keep the mouth OPEN. When you have it closed and tighten/loosen, it will usually force some air either in or out (you are displacing a volume of air when you do this, so it has to compensate). If the mouth is closed, it will have to find a tiny space between the seal and the bottle for air to travel, creating a leak. When you leave the mouth open, the seal will maintain and there is no additional pressure on the system, so when you have tightened the cap back on completely, close the top and see if it leaks after that. This has never given me issues.

So...mine actually does leak when there is warm liquid (or hot) liquid in there. I can hold it upside down (or mostly upside down at a slight angle) and a steady trickle will come out. That means the cap still works well when upright and such...it's not like I spill coffee down the front of my shirt or anything...but it's certainly a large enough issue that I couldn't just toss it in the air like ni this video or put it in a bag without care. I feel like I've done everything exactly as per this video (and the written instructions that come with it). Are there any tricks to this that are not obvious?

Can’t they just make a flip coffee lid which does not require disassembly every time you need to clean it? This is not convenient. Also with this type of lid, its kinda hard to know if its open or not. So, if you are in hurry, you might put your klean kanteen in your bag without closing the lid or, you are ready to sip but you realize that you just close the lid a while ago.
I bought this type in 2019 and use normaly, never fall down, clean as the instruction but now it losts its insulation function. the outer body is getting hot when i pour hot water. any advice?

Yes! I had the same problem, and was baffled. In the video it looks as though it just sort of falls off, like the 2nd piece does. Turns out (at least on mine) you have to bump the bottom end of the spindle on the counter in order to loosen up the other pieces. After that I was able to take the rest of it apart and clean it.
gardenman3 In the video description above: "Tighten lock nut completely until it stops turning and you hear an audible ‘click’." On the store website: "Do not overtighten bottom nut which will cause low flow" Somewhat helpful; somewhat vague.
Steve Clark yes I travel with mine and throw it in my bag knowing it'll end up every direction and so far so good. Make sure you get the newest version, I just read that the 1.0 iteration did leak.
I have the first version of the cap and it surely leaks; I never dare to put my insulated bottle inside my backpack for this reason as it will not stop leaking until the bottle is empty :-(
It definitely leaks the first time I used it I put it in my book bag and it leaked all over my Mac which was broken from liquid damage. If i had to do it over again I would not get this bottle get one that is leak proof.
@@gardenman3 I worked an event where kleen kanteen was a sponsor so the rep told me that it was the second version I had bought. Unfortunately I don't know what markings would indicate that. I have also had some leakage :( even with the second model. When reassembling you can tighten the gasket more and it won't leak but liquid also come out super slowly when you pour.
So I don't have to go through this much trouble to clean my Hydroflask lids, or my Yeti tops. Nor do I have the issue with lingering odors after iced coffee drinks in those, and the KK lids still have the odor after they're washed? I don't have time for that.
Why is my cap leaking in locked position after two weeks of purchase?! (Yes. The liquid was all over my bag, but I was so happy to find my phone miraculously dry!)
It gets REALLY gunky in there. Mine started leaking, found this video and took it apart. It's super gross how gunky it gets. After I cleaned it, it stopped leaking.

I'm in the market for a bottle for my coffee and wanted to check out this cap. This has to be disassembled into 5 pieces to clean? That's ridiculous. Really wanted to go with you guys but now it's between Hydroflask and Yeti. I'll buy Klean Kanteen if you come out with something that's around two pieces and bonus if there's a bright color to show when it's open or closed like on HF.
Hi guys. I just bought my klean kanteen cap2.0 mug from paddy pallin in Western Australia. It works all well but its not leak proof. It leaks out. Whats wrong?
I'm sorry to hear you're missing two pieces for your cap. Please reach out to our Customer Service at warranty@kleankanteen.com and they can send you replacement parts for your cap.
I hate this cup so much. I have many cups that have lids that are one piece, do not leak, do not smell...do not have to disassemble and put together a puzzle every time I have to clean it.
8yrs old this video is and I have NEVER had or seen a dishwasher with a "Top Rack" like that. Also these lids are just NASTY! poor design when it comes to cleaning.
This is why I prefer simpler insulated bottles, where you unscrew them entirely to pour the beverage into a cup or the cap of the bottle. Sippy bottles is a complete pain to maintain with no real benefits.
cleaned mine for almost a year thanks!!! i didn't even know you can disassemble it looooollll my cap is so disgusting it has these black gunks all over it can't believe I'm still alive drinking all that water lmao
Just picked up a couple of the insulated tumblers at goodwill for $4 bucks each. I didn’t know how to wash the lids. This is great. Thank you
lordy. i've had to watch this video each time to remember how to reassemble the damn lid.
Omg I’ve had mine for 6 years they’re so smelly no wonder I’ve never done this I’m so grossed out. Thank you!!!
Cleaned mine for the first time in 2 years, it was disgusting. But at least I know how to clean it now. It was really easy.
Never realised I could take out the top as well :0 Almost bought another lid because of that xD
I finally can open and clean my cafe cap 2.0. Not as easy as in the video 😄

The klean kanteen is literally anything but clean
From Korea, very useful information. Thanks a lot!!
Thanks for the video! Finally cleaned my cap. It already tastes like Tea, Hot Chocolate and Soda. Thought you cant disassemble it. Lol
Glad to hear the video was helpful!
@KleanKanteen ... Do any of those parts offer any adjustability with flow control? My Cafe Cap flowed nicely when I first got it but now it's a little slow / hard to get the beverage through.
Anne Franks loosen the locking nut just a little.
He used this tool: Klean Kanteen Wide Cap Maintenance Kit
Actually, no. He used the Cafe Cap 2.0 maintenance kit. They're different and the one you mentioned says it doesn't work for cafe cap 2.0
Kleen Kanteen coffee lids suck. How many times have i used one to have coffee run down the sides and onto my shirt? LOTS.
Must be user error.
Do ya have the old kind? Oh, and ya have to actually close it to keep things inside.
The older ones definitely leak. I have the newer version with the metal handle and it seems to work much better. Loving the new one!
The new Cafe Cap 2.0 that works with the TK Wide bottles is awesome. I can fill it with coffee, close the lid and flip it completely upside down without losing a drop of coffee.
Mine leaks also. How could I know if it is the new Cafe Cap 2.0 or the old one?
Same, I can do everything except remove the rubber piece... didn't have whatever tool that was. Damaged it trying, gave up.. :\
do i have to disassemble it every time i use? too much of a hassel then :(
It literally takes les than 5 seconds.
finally, i know how to clean it. thanks for the video

Thia don't come with the tool used to remove the gasket. I haven't been able to remove it, and I've already damaged it trying.
looks like a cocktail stick would do the job?
jbmop yes me too 😤
Mm its stuck in there pretty good
Pair of curved tweezers will do the trick
I did it with a knife... carefully haha
Tried this but mine is still leaking. So is this because of production or is it just like that?

What's the little toothpick thing he used?? Mine didn't come with one.
Mine didn't too. You could use a toothpick though. :D
exactly what i was looking for thanks for this video.
Thanks!
Is the TKwide lid disassembly done the same way?

He flipped it instead of turning it upside down because you could not tell if it was leaking slight. But i bet if he held it upside down it leaks.
If you screw the cap on or off while keeping the mouth open, this should solve the problem of any leaks.
