Great video, thank you. I've just done a video on Seamus Heaney's alliterative verse translation of Beowulf, but I touch on the Tolkien translation as well, I find the whole thing quite magnetic. I haven't read enough Graham Greene, love your edition. I am very curious about your Henri Bosco, must search this author out, I am very keen on a poetics of place.

Yes, it is enjoyable to put ourselves in the character shoes and experience what they are experiencing.

I've only ever read one Graham Greene and that was The End of the Affair, which I remember enjoying very much. The last line of the book has always stuck with me. I'm thinking of picking up The Power and the Glory next although The Quiet American has been on my radar. I'm looking forward to the NYRB classics video. I have a couple (mainly horror short story collections) but I do want to delve in more into the collection.

I am reading The Story of Christianity, By Justo L. Gonzalez. It is a 2 part book of the early church to the present day. I have fallen down this theology rabbit hole, and it is a deep hole I must say....lol. I am so interested in the people and how they lived back in the days of Jesus, and before Jesus. It is so interesting learning all about the different beliefs, and how they all came together to form the Bible we have today.
And in January I read Heretics and Heroes , and How The Irish Saved Civilization, both books are by Thomas Cahill.
And in December I finished reading the Bible , Old & New Testament.

Theology is a never ending adventure 😅 I'm glad to hear you are enjoying it! And congrats on finishing the Bible.

I was very disappointed in The Quiet American as well. Like you said, there were some powerful moments and thought provoking ideas, but they were few and far between.

Yes, especially coming after The Power and the Glory. Glad we could read it together though!

I DNF'd The Quiet American. I'd read The Power and the Glory as well as The End of the Affair(which blew me away!) so I had to read TQA. I just, for whatever reason, couldn't connect with it at all. I read more than half of it but, yeah, not my thing. For a long time, I felt like an idiot because everyone loves that book.

I was surprised, too... And honestly if it had not been for a readalong, I might have DNF'd it as well. I still plan to read the End of the Affair per your recommendation 😊

As the mist and sea foam waters set
    I laid on the shore
    Broken and not beaten yet
    Only think to myself
