    It's interesting how Muslims say they love Moses and the prophets, but the Quran paints them as cowardly, incompetent and selfish. The true Moses was willing to die for Israel, the Quranic Moses was willing to watch all of Israel die to save his own skin. What blasphemy.

      (I’m a Protestant, not a Muslim) The Quran calf didn’t make a literal mooing sound, if you actually read the verse. It says it _looked like_ it made a mooing sound; it was describing how the calf looked like. It says in the very next sentence that the idol didn’t speak to them. What he was probably getting at was that it’s funny the words “mooing sound” were in the Quran, not that the calf was literally making little moos.

    Odd also that the Quranic author doesn't mention that the elders of Israel beheld God in Exodus 24. These appearance of God in visible form one sees there and elsewhere are part of the experience of God, that lead eventually to the elaboration of the "two powers in heaven" Jewish theology in the intertestimental period, and the fuller idea of the Trinity when the Messiah came, in accordance with prophecy. He does not seem to feel bad about cutting out what he doesn't like and altering the biblical ideas.

    my post quoted in the vid shows in the Quran Abraham and Muhammad interceding, appart from Moses. The Primary prophetic function is warnings and glad tidings. Intercession is not what prophets are sent for, rather a natural result of their empathetic disposition towards their own people and families who are among their addressees. It is a personal choice by the prophets, not a divine requirement. Christians see prophetic intercession as necessarily flowing from their unbiblical "loving God" mantra, because it fits their father-son/sacrifice plot. However, the normal course of action in the prophetic pattern is that rejection eventually leads to destruction of an entire nation save the prophets and their righteous followers (if there are any). That is why at the golden calf incident, prior to Moses pleading for the community, God says Ex32:10"Now leave Me alone, and My anger will be kindled against them so that I will annihilate them, and I will make you into a great nation". Everyone besides Moses it seems, was implicated, from close or far with idolatry. God then reconsiders what He would have normally done, which is to wipe out everyone at once, leaving it to the Israelites themselves to purge their ranks from those more directly involved in the sin. 3000 apostates were slaughtered in a day, with many more marked for death pending execution. The second day, thinking enough was done to earn the remaining guilty forgiveness, Moses intercedes once more but is rejected, as the chapter ends with the statement that "the Lord struck the people with a plague, because they had made the calf that Aaron had made". A similar situation occurs with the incidents of the scouts. The Israelites anger YHWH again, He decides to wipe everyone out, Moses intercedes, but only gets a delayed punishment. Instead of exterminating the whole nation right away, God decreed for them a 40 years desert wandering that would cause the entire generation of rebels to pass away, and make place for a new breed that would be given the priviledge of entering the blessed land, together with those that had not shown distrust in God when the order to enter the land was decreed Numb14:1-39. Through this 40 years "slow death" God caused a separation between the obedient and the defiant as reflected in Moses' prayer in the Quran 5:25.
    As to the chronology of 7:155, proper reading of context explains the passage. A close reading of suras 7 and 20 shows that some calf worshippers came back to their senses and remorsefully asked God's forgiveness prior to Moses' return 7:148-9 while others violently resisted Aaron's calls and refused to desist 7:150,20:91. The divine order of slaying those that insisted in their sin up to Moses' return was meant to put the resolve and penitence of those that had desisted prior to Moses' return, to the test. The others were disgraced in this world, as well as inflicted with God's wrath, executed by the hand of their own people and family 2:51-4,7:152-3. This was obviously no straight forward task to accomplish. Besides the heavy emotional factor, it would have taken time to designate, apprehend, execute one's own people. It was a mercy from Allah upon Moses and the repentent sinners that the process was interrupted at some point. Allah summoned Moses and 70 elders of the community (a reoccuring theme in the Torah Ex24,Num11) to seek forgiveness. At that point of meeting, Allah demonstrates His anger at the deed of their people 7:155 but follows by declaring that His Will, in terms of what He does with His creatures is free from any constraints. He may remove His decreed punishment at any point, in accordance with His boundless mercy 7:156"but My mercy encompasses all things. So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses". Here Allah explains to Moses and the 70 what is required of their people for the punishment to be suspended, and by extension, to interrupt their own trial of having to slaughter the apostates among their people. In the HB no reference is made of those that had repented prior to Moses' return, neither of the loving biblical God mercifully suspending the execution of the apostates, as eloquently found in the Quran. Instead God finishes off with a plague the remaining sinners that survived the sword of their brethren the day before.
    As to the calf, the Quran says it was made in a way so that a lowing sound would come out of it, probably produced by wind effects entering the hollow body in order to delude the ignorant and simple people. Ancient people tried giving a semblant of life to their idols, sometimes in a naive manner, simply carving in them eyes or ears. See Quran 7:197-8.
    At other times they were very crafty at animating their idols and the Israelites were no exception, including the "foreigners" that left Egypt with them and that counted among them, according to the Zohar, all the magicians that were impressed and could not replicate Moses' miracles. The Quran too passively alludes to these non Israelites that followed Moses, in accordance with his function as a liberator not only to the Israelites but also to anyone living in spiritual bondage under Pharao. Rashi's commentary on Ezek8:14 reflects the aforementioned craftiness of ancient people in animating their idols "And He brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of the Lord that is to the north, and behold there the women were sitting, making the Tammuz weep". Similarly during the course of their history they had household gods called "teraphim" which were made to emit sounds that the diviners were able to decipher Ezek21:26,Zech10:2.

      Muhammad interceding? All you did was quote later tradition. I can show you later tradition that says a rock will intercede.
      You quoted Surah 11:74-76 where Abraham "turns" from his dispute. It's a sin in the Quran! He repented from it (v. 75)! This is not in the Torah. You're proving my point. As I said in the prior video, the Quran omits or condemns intercession accordingly.
      "The Primary prophetic function is warnings and glad tidings....." in the Quran. In the Bible, there's more to it.
      A close reading of the golden calf accounts in the Quran shows more differences than similarities and cannot be harmonized. A recently article has been produced on this. Don't tell me about your "close" reading as if that clarifies anything.
      The lowing sound...I have a whole video on that. It's in rabbinic sources from which the Quran drank deeply. I notice you read into the Quran your own preferred explanation.
      Your comment is incredibly bloated as if a long comment makes your argument stronger.

      @@IslamCritiqued both Quran and hadith were quoted in relation to the prophet Muhammad sallalahu alayhi wa salam. Ibrahim does not turn from any dispute. His qualities given in v75 including tawba (turning to God) are precisely what made him intercede for Lut's people, peace be upon them both. Sound emanating from an idol, in this case the calf, fits very well ancient practices, including Israelites' as referenced.

    • @IslamCritiqued
      @IslamCritiqued  2 роки тому +1

      You can take your tradition which comes hundreds of years later and call it authoritative. I don't, and there are good reasons for it. "His qualities given in v. 75 including tawba (turning to God) are precisely what made him intercede for Lut's people...." Tawba in the Quran has the nuance of "turning in repentance" (e.g., 30:31, 34:9). This makes more sense because Abraham's description in 11:75 is very close to 9:114, which is given after he disowned his father (i.e., stopped interceding). And you don't need to give the reason for intercession, it's in the Quran: "Lot is in it" (Q. 29:32). Regardless, Surah 9:113 trumps all of your attempts. At times in your argument above you have put Moses and Abraham very close to, if not in violation of, that verse.

    • @IslamCritiqued
      @IslamCritiqued  2 роки тому +1

      It's interesting that ibn Kathir disagrees with you on Surah 11:75: "Therefore, Ibrahim remained silent and his soul was at rest. Concerning Allah's statement, (Verily, Ibrahim was, without doubt, forbearing, used to invoke Alllah with humility, and was repentant (to Allah)." The state of Abraham in v. 75 is the result of being at peace with the destruction of the cities.

    • @nadermusa4562
      @nadermusa4562 2 роки тому

      @@IslamCritiqued quran verses, aside from hadith, depict the intercession of the prophet Muhammad. The idea that hadith literature and science of isnad is wholesale unreliable is not the position of mainstream academia, if that is your authority.
      Ibrahim pleads with God for the whole nation of Lut, not only for Lut 11:24. Not because he sided with the sinners but to avert the death of everyone, sinners and righteous alike, including Lut. Hence the statement that "Lut is in it" of 29:32 in reaction to the first encounter with the messengers, as they said they will destroy everyone in the town. This type of intercession is not about forgiveness, as in the prohibition of 9:113. Abraham's "intercession" in Genesis is the same. He pleads for the town by virtue of the righteous in it, even if "perhaps ten will be found there". These potential 10 are Lut's few followers alluded to in the Quran 29:32. It is worthwhile noting here the Quran's rectification of typical HB naive anthropomorphisms. God has to go personally to Sodom to confirm the news that came to Him about the wickedness of its people Gen18:21. Then begins the unrealistic back and forth bargaining with Abraham where God says what He would do depending on what He finds out once He gets to the city. The Quran, as it always does in its retelling of defective HB narratives, protects God's omniscience 29:32"We are more knowing of who is within it. We will surely save him and his family, except his wife. She is to be of those who remain behind". This is what caused Ibrahim's soul to be at rest, as stated by ibn kathir. Not because of "the destruction of the cities".

    By him in whose hand is my life, if you were not to commit sin, allah would sweep you out of existence and he would replace (you by) those people who would commit sin and seek forgiveness from allah and he would have pardoned them.
    allah encourages muslims to sin, while the real God and His son Jesus Christ encourages people not to sin and not to live in sin, this verse just proves that allah is satan and no matter how muslims rebuke this, they can’t

    Consider these three religions: (1) Judaism, (2) Christianity, and (3) Islam - each of which has its own “Official Holy Book”. For Judaism, the Official Holy Book is the Old Testament. Without the Old Testament, there is no Judaism. For Christianity, the Official Holy Book is the New Testament. Without the New Testament, there is no Christianity. For Islam, the official holy book is the Quran. Without the Quran, there is no Islam.

    By now, if you have an I.Q. level of 2 points above the I.Q. level of a pencil eraser, then you know that God did not reach out His Hands through time and space in order to deliver to mankind a hand-written Book called “Scriptures”. But rather, God revealed both Himself and His Word to mankind in divine mysteries so as to allow human beings, in their own words and styles of writings (be it essay, drama, or poetry), to write down God’s revelation on writing materials such as papyrus (and, or animal skins).
    *
    In Judaism, the men who hand-wrote down God’s revelation have names such as Moses, Elijah, David, Obadiah, Isaiah, Malachi, etc. And in Christianity, we have names like Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Peter, Paul, James, etc. Strangely (and more damagingly) in Islam, there are no names for the men who hand-wrote down the Quran on fragmentary pieces such as sticks, stones, animal ribs, and camel jawbones. In other words, nobody knows who wrote the Quran that was later collected and compiled into a book by Uthman.
    *
    Again, if you have an I.Q. level of 2 points above the I.Q. level of a pencil eraser, you know the question “Who wrote the Quran?” is a valid question that demands an answer. But of course, this is just a waste of time - yours and mine; because Muslins will spend hours and hours telling us of how Allah surgically implanted “The first 7th century computerized human memory chips” in the brains of Quran reciters so as to never forget Quran verses.

    Sahih al-Bukhari 5038: Narrated Aisha: Allah's Apostle heard a man reciting the Qur'an at night, and said, "May Allah bestow His Mercy on him, as he has reminded me of such-and-such Verses of such-and-such Suras, which I was caused to forget."

    you are certainly correct that the Quranic Musa does not intercede for the israelites while the biblical one does, this is likely another instance of the Quran corrrecting a biblical corruption subhan allah

      Any time there’s a difference it’s the Quran correcting it- even though the Quran claims to affirm what came before. The Quran actually doesn’t know what came before. That’s the problem.

      @@MaalikFaun so then I have no respect for your Quranic Musa. Because he is one of the worst choices of allah if we leave out Muhammed because he is worse than anyone. However the choice made by God of the bible here is perfect he knew that how can people just do what they want and that would make God angry. So Moses performs the duties of the prophet while the Musa of the Qur'an runs for his own life.
