That one was new to me. I'll have to try it next time. I've personally really enjoyed using the zigzag stitch-over-a-string method. I use some thick button thread as the pulling thread and it always turns out nice and never breaks. I can also reuse the button thread by pulling it out of the zigzag channel one I've stitched my pieces together. Your top turned out really cute, by the way! I love linen!
Yes so I always wonder why lots of folks doing videos don't turn their tension way up to gather and you can also do 2 or even 3 rows with this technique.
@@RooneySewingPatterns yes you will need to go slow and pull fabric straight just before in goes under needles or it can bunch up. Your very welcome, thank you for all your wonderful videos and projects..
Hey, that's a great question! I apologize for not explaining it in the video. The bobbin tail is referring to the bobbin thread which is the bottom thread of each stitch. So you have the top thread that is coming from your main thread spool and the bobbin is the smaller spool underneath your fabric. When you remove the fabric from the machine, you want to leave a long tail of threads before cutting the thread away from where it is connected in the machine. These long threads are what I refer to as the "tails." You can find the bobbin tail as the thread that was on the fabric that was touching the machine (or you could say it is the bottom of the fabric). This is what you'll pull when gathering the fabric. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions :)
@RooneySewingPatterns Thank you so much for the diligent response! Two more, when I make that stitch with unique settings, I should keep a long bobbin tail but short tail from the top thread that is through the needle? Sorry about my wording, I just got my first machine two weeks ago. Also, no reverse stitches for this step, right?
@@magnoliatree123 Great questions! You can keep the top one long as well, you will just be pulling the bottom/bobbin tail and not the top. To keep it long is to help you hold on to the thread while you pull the fabric. And correct, no reverse stitches here!
Am I the only one who just learned this gathering trick? I've seen it for so long and didn't know if it would really work until now!

@@AshleyRJones8 oh that’s a great trick!!
Such a cute blouse! I have been looking for a pattern for something like this. Will definitely have to give the betty pattern a try! 🙂
Oh I’m glad to hear that ❤😊
Okay, this gathering trick!? 🤯 amazing + thank you for sharing!
Isn't it so good?! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one just learning about it!
Love this!
Thank you, Christin! :)
This is so cute
aw thank you!
Hi! What a gorgeous piece! For this kind of neckline, how do ensure that it doesn’t gape in the front?
You can always add a small metal snap on the inside front to make sure it doesn't gape!
How do you make the black top you are wearing? Withou tiiers?thanks
Yes! This is the original Betty pattern bodice lengthened to be shirt length.
Do I have to widened it as well? And how much?
@ I did not widen it, just added a few inches to the bottom of the bodice pieces to the length I wanted :)
Lovely thanks
Love this pattern!! what type of machine do you have?

Oh I didn’t know you could do multiple rows, I wondered if that was possible! Thanks, Rhonda :) Always learning ❤

How many yards of fabric do you need to make this top?
it doesnt really need any darts on top?
Right, this one doesn't have darts. Most of our patterns are more loose fitting and some have darts, like the Betty Halter :)
2:20 what’s a long bobbin tail?
