It's one of my favorite wii games. A part of me still wishes that Konami did decide to give the green light for Cold Heart as it sounded like it could’ve been one of the most stressful Silent Hill titles with the survival mechanics but I’m glad with what we got in the end and is definitely unique especially on something that’s known for being kid friendly like the Wii.
My friend lent me this game for the Wii last year. I enjoyed this retelling of SH1 so much. The interactions and the atmosphere really sold me. Only played through it once and missed my chance for the different endings and choices I could have done. Great video Kai, thanks for the shattered memory of this game that I need to play again!
One of my favorite Silent Hill game. I still never tired to playing this amazing game. Every time I beat this game I wanted to play one more round of this game.
I used to have this on the Wii (and a Wii) back in the day. It's completely underrated and it has no right to be as good as it is. It profiles you as you play and it's one of the most stressful games I've played in a long time.
It’s disgusting the amount of times I have played this game. I always love trying to get different endings or different lines of dialogue. The mall is my favorite area in the game. Game is super solid. I would recommend it to anyone wanting a very casual playthrough. 10/10

This was the first Silent hill I had the guts to play on PS2. I was younger and easily scared so never finished it. I wish I could forget the ending so I can experience the twist while playing but wishing memory loss on oneself isn't the go to for a healthy life imo. Great video!
btw everything in the game changes each playthrough based on your answers on the test or based on how long you look at certain things around the map and interact with. Great video. I never played this game but I heard about it and it goes for over $500 which is crazy. It’d be cool if you did this more often as a series. Tomb, raider, metal, gear, solid, or any other games you enjoy.
I love this game and have played through and watched my brother play it countless times. Such a fun unique entry for the series. Using the Wii remote as a phone and getting the creepy 'door's open' whispers were so cool. Great soundtrack as well. The attention to detail is still impressive. Rare blend of disturbing relaxing and melancholy beauty
Glad you made this retrospective, I really love this game and wish more people could appreciate it for what it is. About emulating the PSP version I remember I had some issues with shadows and reflections not displaying properly so I had to go a different route in the game in order to avoid certain puzzles.
First thing, I love this game and I think it is underrated; second, I do agree that Silent Hill 1 should be the one remade; finally, since you are checking Wii games, I recommend you to play Alone in the Dark, but specifically the Wii version, the controls made it an interesting gaming experience.
Honestly, Bloober team doing the remake of Silent Hill 2 is a good choice if you like Shattered Memories. The first game that comes to mind for me as comparable to Shattered Memories is Observer. Shattered Memories was what I would consider one of the first walking simulators and I believe very strongly the Bloober Team took notes from it. When looking at Observer and Shattered Memories, they're both about fathers tracking down their children, they both portion off the "horror" parts into clear cut and dedicated sections (and in both, these are the weak points of the game), they both put huge weight into environmental storytelling, you could even compare the many optional phonecalls you make in shattered memories to the many optional door intercoms you can have conversations with in observer, but above all else the immersion and interactivity and exploratory spirit are quite similar between both games. Both Shattered Memories and Observer are games I have played countless times, and I highly recommend either game to fans of the other.
First time I played SM was in 2009 on the ps2. I loved it and it was one of the best SH game in my opinion. Back then i did not use the internet that often and i wasnt aware that people hated it. I'm happy to see that my opinion is shared by others too. This gane is good as a horror game 🩵🩵🩵
I'm actually not a big Silent Hill fan. My favorite of the series would be the Arcade lightgun shooter which I only ever got to play during a trip to Japan. However if I was to pick a game that we got here in the states. This would be the one. The wii controls and interactivity with the environment was so much fun, and the taking pictures of 'ghosts' reminded me a lot of my actual favorite survival horror franchise, Fatal Frame. It's games like this that make me miss the Wii control era. Games like this and Metroid Prime 3 where such care was taken into how to use the wii remote to interact with the game was just so wonderful.
16:58 Oh, I can tell you exactly why. It's Pyramid Head. Everyone loves Pyramid Head. That's really the only reason why 2 is getting a remake instead of the 1st game. I agree. I prefer the 1st game over the 2nd.
Pyramid Head probably is the most iconic image from the series and is why either Pyramid Head or something similar keeps being put in essentially every game since 2. I get why they're remaking the second game but I think most people would agree the original doesn't hold up near as well as 2 and far more could stand to be remade. With the remake I'm mostly just wondering if they're going to keep in the final boss dying nearly instantly if you enter the final fight with no ammo.
@@jcohasset23 Pyramid Head definitely is no objection there. Thing is, Pyramid Head is a Jim Sunderland thing so it makes no sense why Pyramid Head appears in Downpour, Homecoming, etc. That's like saying if my guilt fear demon manifestation is a dog covered in moving eyeballs is also yours. That makes no sense because you have your own guilt to face so your will look different than mine. The 1st game is very straightforward + I like Harry Mason more as a protagonist than the others we've seen. Good point, I'm curious about the ending fight as well for the Silent Hill 2 Remake. Will it be changed? I have a feeling it will be.
Honestly never played this. But watched lottttsss of playthrough. So no first hand experience, I’ll say this seemed like a bold and neat idea for a silent hill 1 reimagining. Changes up a lot, but retains that silent hill charm and different sense, and leaves you wondering and sticks with you when that ending revelations hit.
Agreed. Loved it when it first came out, and still do. SH1,2,3,4 are my favs by far... but I have played and cleared SHSM way more than any other SH game. A totally underrated and unique gem and I still have my Wii and Wii U. Much better on the Wii than PS2/PSP by far.... but... I also play the PS2 version emulated on my Steam Deck, and I play the Wii version in 4K emulated on my PC with the Wii remote. Great game.
this was my first silent hill game before the other games, which I can't deny is much more scarier and thrilling, so scary I wasn't able to finish them. Anyways, I remember this game being one of my first game in my PSP and for that time there are very little amount of huge games and this one is huge at that time. The graphics are great almost felt realistic, the story was interesting and the hidden stories surrounding the silent hill as you play through it like the side story about the murder in the woods and the school scandals, I love how interactive the dialogues are, the puzzles are also fun. However, my main complaint of this game is the chase sequences which are at first scary but through out the game becomes annoying especially the school part. All in all the replayability to unlock all scenes are special for me. 9/10 would prolly play again after seeing this video.
ok retrospective of clock tower the first fear.....i know i know you had a rough time playing it but that game alongside the alone in the dark trilogy were the founding stone of survival and psychological horror games as always kai great work and greetings from santiago chile
I remember playing this on PSP back when I was definitely way too young to understand it, but I liked it, especially the exploration is totally the highlight, psychological profiling is really special aswell, there's no games do stuff like that at the time, and I did get the abstract monster form in my playthrough playing naturally, and I like the music too, it makes me want to go for a walk at night while listening to it.
Silent Hill Shattered Memories was a awesome Silent Hill game and i love how it take places in a alternate reality (because clearly history is very different in this game characters are different and clearly many of them if not all of them were born later than they probably were in the main timeline) aside from that the gameplay was awesome and as you stated the exploration was absolutely incredible and the creepy vibes some of the areas gave off was also incredible......i often wish they would at some point make another game that takes place in the Shattered Memories timeline with similar gameplay and exploration (most of the Silent Hill games usually fit easily into the main timeline which i call the team silent timeline so it would be great to see these alternate timelines grow with more entries added to them in the future i also believe Silent Hill Downpour takes place in another alternate timeline because the "town" in Downpour is more like a city in size) For those curious this is how i think the Team Silent Timeline goes as of right now Silent Hill Past Life Silent Hill Origins Silent Hill (PS1) PT Silent Hill 2 (PS2) Silent Hill 3 Silent Hill 4 The Room Silent Hill Homecoming Silent Hill Book Of Memories (Possibly-although this game could also be part of the Downpour timeline or maybe even the Shattered Memories timeline) Silent Hill Ascension Silent Hill The Short Message
Side note- it was a better idea to remake Silent Hill 2 first by the way since Silent Hill 2 is the best game in the series it stands a much better chance of making money and getting the series going strong again (they can always remake Silent Hill 1 later preferably after remaking Silent Hill 3) also Shattered Memories is canon because it takes place in an alternate reality and when a franchise is a multiverse that means everything is canon to one reality or another (Silent Hill has up to 7 timelines which includes the movie timeline and comic book timeline the games alone are separated into 4 timelines now that the SH2 remake is coming out)
I enjoyed this. I didn't get to play Shattered Memories but it looks like something I would've loved, that first idea about it being survival type game sounds awesome and it's a pity neither Res or SH ever did one like it. Another (although not so much a psycological horror) seriously underrated game is The Suffering. I'd like to see more videos like this Kai, theres some real hidden gems of the ps2- ps3 era that don't get the love they deserve.
The very first SH game I played. At first I was expecting hard enemies that I can either hide and kill slowly but when I played it, it was sheer terror when I first saw the walls freeze and the enemies. But as I played on, the terror was replaced with adrenaline as when the walls freeze, I know that I had to GTFO as really GTFO. All in all, best introduction to SH I ever had.
I played this game on my PSP when I was still on college. I sill have my copy and will never let go. For me this is the only proper Silent Hill game thar was not made by Team Silent. This game will be more perfecr if they only continue tge Cold Heart game idea. Anyway I'm so happy that people are starting to give credits on this game
The music, composed by the genius Yamaoka, was designed to change as well regarding your choices & actions in the game. It is why it is wildly different from his past work on the franchise. It was also his last involvement composing for the series until he did work for the SH2 remake.
I had recently beaten this game last week after years of ignoring it because of what majority have people had said about it. I ended up loving it a lot and it's easily my favourite none team silent game
Este fue el primer SH que jugué. No entendía nada, era muy pequeño y sin saber nada de nada del Lore de la saga. Fue una gran experiencia y me gustaría revisitar este juego en algún momento.
Shattered Memories is honestly one of my favorite silent hill games. Despite not having combat, (usually i avoid horror games without combat) but Shattered Memories have such a great gimmick and story that makes me want to go for more. And its the first and only silent hill game i beaten. :p
Amazing video!!! As a huge Resi Evil fan I love your content for a long time but this was a very positive surprise to see :) I also love Silent Hill series,so pleeeeaaaseeee do more Silent Hill videos if you can :)
Silent Hill is in my opinion one of the biggest an greatest Horror franchises ever. But somtimes i have the feeling that the most people only care for SH2... Since i heard that the guys who do the Remake of SH2 were actually ready for a SH1 remake, but Konami said that they should do SH2 instead. Yeah, SH2 is truly a cashcow.
This game made me absolutely love the Wii. Even if I didn't have a ton of games for it, interacting with everything was just so damn cool. After you realize the creatures only show up in the running sections the tension factor drops a lot, but I was still uneasy due to all the creepy things you find while exploring. It did a lot of things extremely well for being on the Wii. I'd say it even stood up against early 360 titles for how well it looked. The shadows, snow, and all around detail in every area was just wonderful. Granted this is me taking into consideration that it's playing on the Wii, but I still think it's impressive. Also I think with the twist at the ending it works so well because of holding the wiimote to look at the reveal. It puts you right there in the middle of it and I feel like it hits just a bit different because of it. I don't consider it canon but as a story told from one of the original games endings, it's great. If you love point and click adventure games with puzzles and creepy atmosphere it does that very very well.
You have a new sub. I have been playing the remake of silent hill 2, and it is phenomenal! But...other than 2...my favourite has always been shattered memories. It is the most important game in the franchise in my opinion... "The choking game" "Pigtails" "My son the queer" "Fridged" Thank you for reminding me how good this game is, especially the Wii version. And that twist at the end........
How fortuity I just cleared it for the first time on a wii yersterday!... oh and you better believe it resonated with me on a personal level. I was looking for its OST and saw your thumbnail. It's so amazing to go into something with no particular expectations and find yourself immensely surprised! One can only imagine the catalog we would have had (especially in the horror genre) if given the devs more time to tickle with the wii's technology back then.
I never enjoyed the willy waggling gymnastics of the wii. I prefer to come in from work, collapse on the sofa with a beer. That said the workaround for this was to play on my PSP. The PSP is still really good for certain games like the PS1 era, Resi, Silent hill & Final Fantasy. Up until recently when I dropped my go and bricked it I still used it regularly.
I own shattered memories on PSP and PS2 ... I bought the PSP version because the PS2 version had a bad font or something ... I could not read the words .... I wanted to own silent hill origins on both PSP and PS2 but I waited to long so I only own it on the PS2.
I would still recommend anyone to try and get the Wii version, physical or emulated, because the other ports have altered soundtracks that aren't quite as scary.
Yes! One of my favorites games and yes there is nothing like it, love the atmosphere the soundtrack it is just beautiful I played it as a kid and I was terribly scared of it but it was so misterious and yet so scary (it was my first horror game) that I couldn't put it down until I finish, I wasn't expecting that ending at all.
It pleases me that people still talk about Shattered Memories even in 2024. I don't remember exactly why I picked it up, but once I did, I really got into it, and at this point I've played it four or five times. Like Kai says, there really isn't anything else like it. It also manages to capture the essence of a Silent Hill story, in my opinion, while still being it's own thing. It's one of my favorite stories out there, and I *really* regret that I was spoiled on the story years before playing this. If there is one video game I wish I could erase my memories of and play again for the first time, utterly unspoiled, it would be this one. ...I also occasionally think about writing a fanfic about it >.> based on the idea that the other characters from the series are in the town as well, as we see with James in the UFO ending.
Im 100% happy with how it came out i have it for ps2 so it doesnt look the best still 10/10 game the atmosphere is perfect I love how everything can affect the sourondings Lisa is the only character change i didnt really like I do hope SH1 gets remade but it also feel like a mixture with SM i would love Michelle Valdez to return somehow loved her introduction she was my first fav SH character
Taken as its own experience, I do honestly think Shattered Memories is a spectacular game with an interesting story and a wild take on the Silent Hill concept. I think it’s probably the best of the games outside the original 4 by Team Silent, and it did take some wild swings that didn’t pay off but like. It genuinely felt like it had ideas and inspiration the whole way through. It may not have been perfect but it was definitely doing something very right.
I remember back then after Until Dawn got released someone said that the therapy section was probably inspired by Silent Hill Shattered Memories and the reaction was: "Never heard of that game". Seriously...
I really didn't think I was going to like SM, but after checking it out on the Wii, I fell in love with it. Genuine tears in my eyes at the ending!!!!

Ink Ribbon is one of my favorite UA-camrs his videos are so calming and informative.
My favorite Silent hill games are Shattered memories and 4 the Room.
I am so here for this SM adoration era!! I played this on the PSP and it was simply amazing! I am so glad people are noticing it now 💙❄
I have owned this game on Wii for like a decade and never once played more than 15 minutes or so. I guess I need to go play it properly.
As a silent hill fan, resident evil fans are the only true silent hill fans
I played this in my PS2 when I was still a kid, and I love every mechanics in this game
The flailing got me!! 🤣🤣 I love you man!
Was not expecting to come on here and find Silent Hill content, my day is made! :D
This Silent Hill is my all time favorite S.H game and it was ahead of it's time.❤
Great game.
I'm a hardcore Silent Hill fan, but I love Shattered Memories. I have the good grace to know that Downpour is our true enemy.
this was my first silent hill game before the other games, which I can't deny is much more scarier and thrilling, so scary I wasn't able to finish them.
Another five star video! Please make more retro content like this, e.g. other Silent Hill titles and the Fatal Frame series. 🥰
Silent Hill Shattered Memories was a awesome Silent Hill game and i love how it take places in a alternate reality (because clearly history is very different in this game characters are different and clearly many of them if not all of them were born later than they probably were in the main timeline) aside from that the gameplay was awesome and as you stated the exploration was absolutely incredible and the creepy vibes some of the areas gave off was also incredible......i often wish they would at some point make another game that takes place in the Shattered Memories timeline with similar gameplay and exploration (most of the Silent Hill games usually fit easily into the main timeline which i call the team silent timeline so it would be great to see these alternate timelines grow with more entries added to them in the future i also believe Silent Hill Downpour takes place in another alternate timeline because the "town" in Downpour is more like a city in size)
For those curious this is how i think the Team Silent Timeline goes as of right now
Silent Hill Past Life
Silent Hill Origins
Silent Hill (PS1)
PT
Silent Hill 2 (PS2)
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4 The Room
Silent Hill Homecoming
Silent Hill Book Of Memories (Possibly-although this game could also be part of the Downpour timeline or maybe even the Shattered Memories timeline)
Silent Hill Ascension
Silent Hill The Short Message
I like your backgorund at 8:32 Somehow it reminds me the RE3 Nemesis prologue.
Well…that is a piano. Not a guitar. I liked the soundtrack!
I love this game and the changes. It still feels like Silent Hill to me.
Take the fight out of fight or flight and all you’re left with is a limp disappointment.
This has one of the best soundtracks of the series and in gaming.
I got the soundtrack for this game recently. Thoroughly enjoyed it. ^^
At least if you play the original Wii version. The ported versions ruined some of the soundtracks unfortunately.
I had recently beaten this game last week after years of ignoring it because of what majority have people had said about it. I ended up loving it a lot and it's easily my favourite none team silent game
i ABSOLUTELY loved this game in the wii era. It was a mindblowing finale and a great puzzle dark game
Love this game, I play it on Wii every Christmas. Bought it opening day and the cashier said "I thought the Wii only made baby games"
Este fue el primer SH que jugué. No entendía nada, era muy pequeño y sin saber nada de nada del Lore de la saga.
Fue una gran experiencia y me gustaría revisitar este juego en algún momento.
Love your retrospective! Should do more of them. I'd love to see one on a game called The Thing. I adored that game. Keep up the good work
Shattered Memories is honestly one of my favorite silent hill games.
"The choking game"
"Pigtails"
"My son the queer"
"Fridged"
Thank you for reminding me how good this game is, especially the Wii version.
An absolutely beautiful hidden gem
I own shattered memories on PSP and PS2 ... I bought the PSP version because the PS2 version had a bad font or something ... I could not read the words .... I wanted to own silent hill origins on both PSP and PS2 but I waited to long so I only own it on the PS2.
This game broke me, it's so good, the twist is just god, I got the wicked and weak ending.
Would love to see you do more retrospectives. This was great and made me think again about the game since i originally wrote it off as just a wii game.
I would still recommend anyone to try and get the Wii version, physical or emulated, because the other ports have altered soundtracks that aren't quite as scary.
Outerwilds immediately comes into mind when it comes to unique games
I love the game, but that PS2 emulation footage was scary AF
😂😂
LOVED this game on the wii
I played this game only once when it came out, but I have strong memories of it; I liked it very much.
Shattered Memories is lowkeycone of my fav SH games its so overhated and underrated
Don't get me started on the soundtrack both the Lyrical and instrumental songs are so good
Taken as its own experience, I do honestly think Shattered Memories is a spectacular game with an interesting story and a wild take on the Silent Hill concept. I think it’s probably the best of the games outside the original 4 by Team Silent, and it did take some wild swings that didn’t pay off but like. It genuinely felt like it had ideas and inspiration the whole way through.
It may not have been perfect but it was definitely doing something very right.
I'm surprised you dont have all of Wii Resident evils.
They turned Dalia into goth Max Caufield from Life is Strang
I remember back then after Until Dawn got released someone said that the therapy section was probably inspired by Silent Hill Shattered Memories and the reaction was: "Never heard of that game". Seriously...
How you experience the games is different when you play after you become a father. Trust me
