    When I pinch my coleus throughout the season I just stick the pinched stem back in the soil mix and that stem has always rooted. It willlook wilted at first but I’ve never had one that hasn’t rooted

    Easily root cuttings by removing leaves on at least 4 nodes. Leave at 2 leaves on top. Place in a glass of water which should be changed every 2-3 days. I place mine in a window and watch the roots form about a couple of weeks later. Plant it when you think it has a strong root system. I have overwintered mine this way again and again. So simple.

    Hey Corey! I just discovered your channel and I am HOOKED. I garden in Ohio, so I love that you are also gardening up north!
    Coleus are my absolute favorite. My grandmother planted a coleus garden every year, and now I do too! They are such a nostalgic plant for me. I tend to just stick them in the ground and keep them watered, but I appreciate your tips and tricks. And I definitely want one of each of the variations you showed 😊

    Hi Corey! I am so hooked on coleus! I took cuttings last fall after a glorious season outside. I rooted them in water and have been making 4” pots that are ready to go back in the garden, weather permitting! They made beautiful house plants all winter long . I will be on the lookout for the collections you mentioned!

    I love coleus, I winter over as many as I can inside. They are the easiest plant ever to root cuttings. I either put what I've pinched off into water or soil. If I use soil, I put a plastic bag over the pot. You'll have a very high level of success.

    I LOVE coleus...my favorite series is the Under the Sea collection. Already have ordered some from Rosey Dawn coleus. Wish I lived closer to your shop.

    I've put root cuttings in water; they root easily but only have done trailing varieties. They may look a little limp when put in pots but will perk up in a few days.

    I’ve found that coleus in full sun tends to bleach and get more limey if it is green - yellow and more pink if it is red. I don’t think I saved the names as I bought plugs from a local nursery. I took cuttings from them and saved them over the winter and indoors they got darker. Such an interesting plant! I have a section in my garden that is more dappled shade so this year I plan to try more of these. Your videos are so useful so I can look for these varieties in my local nursery.

      Many of the new varieties hold their color in the sun. The older varieties would get very bleached out.

      I’d recommend checking locally first. There are some online sources that sell the ColorBlaze coleus which would be similar to some of the ones I mentioned. Proven Winners Direct and Garden Crossings are reliable.

    Hi Corey, love the coleus segment, so many beautiful ones. Do the same number of plants per pot apply to coleus? Thank you, your up north, almost UP fan.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому +1

      You’ll need to check the size. Some coleus reach three feet while others are a third that size. It’s also important to consider whether it’s upright/mounting or trailing.
      Once you know the size you can start determining if it’s likely to stay the size of a medium geranium or will it be more massive.

    I love the PW el brighto, just amazing vigor. And a red one, maybe main street series... I need to save those tags instead of tossing or relying on memory.

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  3 місяці тому +1

      ColorBlaze El Brighto is probably my favorite… however, Volcanica Solar Flare has the potential to take over the top spot.

    I went and bought one of those Coleus at my local gaden center because of this video! Question... what temps can it withstands. My nights are looking at about 55+ regularly now but I got a handful being between 50-55 would that be okay or should I put on the frost covers just in case?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому

      I’d avoid exposing it anything under 50 degrees Fahrenheit (be sure to consider that high winds could make it more sensitive).

    Hey Corey...love the vids. Question? Do these Coleus do well planted in the ground...seem to see them mostly in containers? Also, any suggestions on specific coleus and color matches for Coleus "area" per se?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  Місяць тому +1

      They do well in the ground. Since there seems to be a limitless number of coleus colors, there is a limitless number of matches. I like them with lime, yellow, and sometimes hot pink/fuchsia. Some reds and purples can disappear with coleus.

    I sometimes see really Big size coleus leaves in 4”pots. Are these the same as these varieties only more mature?

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому

      They could be. The ones in this video are often planted in 4 and 5 inch pots.

    Hi there! I am zone 6A (Colorado). Curious if the full zone coleus would do okay here given we can be pretty hot but also dry here (mid to upper 90
    s with an occasional 100 degree day). Thank you!

    • @UpNorthGardenMI
      @UpNorthGardenMI  2 місяці тому

      We probably don’t get as hot as you do. I find that in the hottest part of summer they do need a lot of water or they suffer. They might do better with a little break from the hottest part of the day in your area.
