I briefly worked with the team behind this game and I found them to be extraordinarily unprofessional and unstructured, with the exception of lead developer Spareni.
Regardless of the team's competency though, this was pretty much inevitable when working with an IP as fiercely protected as LotR, and I cannot fathom why they thought they'd be able to release the game before the IP holders found out. I'm not a lawyer, but if merely changing names while still using designs obviously from films they don't have the rights to was an effective way of skirting copyright law, we'd see a lot more fan games using that method.
I still wish them luck and hope they get to release the game they're all working so hard on, but it doesn't seem likely with their current strategy.
I forget the name of it, but it would have to be like that SW Battlefront fan-made knockoff that was released a while back, where they changed all the names and designs to make them legally distinct. Even Amazon could only get a small part of the Silmarillion. If they're planning on profiting directly from the game or to cover dev costs, it needs to be 'legally distinct generic fantasy + Mount & Blade.' Luckily, most of the races in Tolkien are just adaptations from Norse mythology, so as long as they don't use factions' names or banners, and swap lore specific beings for something else, but similar, they should be fine.
@KungFuIsland
Exactly. Just make a generic fantasy game that plays similar to LotR Conquest and looks similar to Lord of the rings, with diferent names and designs to avoid legal issues, and then make an unoffocial LOTR ‘expansion/mod for the game.
Just what Taleworlds did with Bannerlord, make a generic fantasy game and let modders add the Lord of the Ring stuff later. ;)
This is what Palworld did to Pokemon, making similar designs but unique at the time, and then let modders add original Pokemon mods to the game xD
This way they can sell their game on Steam and make a profit, and we players can enjoy a Lord of the Rings game )
Bruh we were clickbaited
You may have been. I'm still click edging.
i don't understand why a big company doesn't make a new great lord of the rings game. They'd make a lot of money and make a lot of people happy cuz it's a great world/franchise and nostalgic
The Team being served a DMCA notice advising them to change the direction of the project, based on how you've presented the situation, looks to be a blessing in disguise. If they do go about changing names of places, characters and modifying some assets enough that it can be distinct enough from LotR they can make this project their own, and possibly sell it on Steam. Future Ideas aside, I wish them the best.
Amazon; NOOOO YOU CANT REMASTER AND RELEASE IT FOR FREE ITS OUR COPYRIGHT Q_Q
also Amazon: refuses to remaster it themselves to get the money from it
..honestly when and why did big corporations get so much power over entertainment
God, what stupidity,
So instead of supporting the fan base, instead of supporting talented people, copyright holders are suppressing them.
What a shame!
The copyright holders are frankly unworthy of Tolkien's legacy
P.S. I have the impression that I have written this text before
Love the content Resonant! We can confirm that yes, development is still going on. We are just silent as we need to clean up a lot of development and change the proper things that WB Games, etc.. wanted us to clean up. We will hopefully release new content this year, but we cannot confirm in this early stage of changes.
You guys rock ! thank you for all the hard work
Thanks for the video
I really appreciate the Lord of the Rings series of games.
They were one of the best moments of my childhood, along with the movies.
I still remember playing the RTS LORT Battle for the Middle Earth with my friends.
Especially the second part, where you could create your own heroes.
And of course, Return of the King.
Oh, what good times those were. 😭❤
My favorite part was loading up the campaign and getting a prompt to "summon the Army of the Dead" at Helms deep. I remember watching dev interviews and coming away with the realization that the higher ups on the project had no understanding of LotR (hence the 'pew pew' battlemages and strange campaign). That said, I ultimately enjoyed it, especially due to the use of the movie OST, the evil campaign, and the goofy balance issues (like being able to stun-lock people with exploding arrows). War in the North definitely feels like more of LotR game though, and you can still find some online copies. They still did the battlemage bs, but at least it was restricted to elves.
The fact that they actually went and made the Balrog playable though... they didn't have to do that, yet they did. And it's just awesome
Could you please make the next video about Valhall: Harbringer?
I remember a long time ago you had a video on your channel about this promising game in the Viking setting, I really curious how they are developing the game now, because there is not much information about them on the Internet, and at the same time reviews on Steam are very contrasting and polarised.
Is there a place I can download this?
I was really excited for lotr conquest. Still think it's a better game than most these days. The mage was my favorite class
The heros acting was terrible and they got Sauron wrong in his ending but honestly i wasn't too bothered it was still fun as hell I don't understand the hate it got everything else was great
This big companies do nothing with the IP and when they do they do shit like what amazon did, when the better game experiences come actually from modders.
I want this bad like we deserve a game like this LotR or even a new world it just looks awesome
how about the remastered LOTR battle for middle earth is that ever coming does anyone know ?
looks like direct footage from two towers thats why the DMCA. Coz if the mod was totally free not using stuff from commercial properties then they should be fine to continue.
They let you play as Sauron and the Balrog. That alone makes it worth playing.
My biggest issue is the melee combat, fighting AI warriors is such a pain as they literally ALWAYS block. Also, getting constantly knocked over as the Nazgul or Witch King by some Gondorian soldier is kinda silly. Heroes should've at least been a tad more resistant to that.
Also, the only times it actually felt like you were in a massive battle were during the campaign, with the armies of grunts everywhere. The unit count in multiplayer and instant action was far too small.
On the plus side, modding seems to be starting up for the original. Nothing too crazy, but people have found ways to edit loads of things in the scripting.
If conquest was a single player and coop game, would have been the best LOTR game out there.
What about LOTR Battle For Middle Earth Reforged?
Can you still play the original on PC?
Yeah it runs on Windows 11 fine, game can run at 4k too if that matters to you
Yeah but you have to surf the high seas to get a copy of it
I sometimes wonder what kind of games Pandemic would have made if they still existed.
thats sad :(
Hoping it gets revived
I knew this would happen :/
This sucks, LOTR conquest is my favorite game. I was really hoping for a remaster.
Always strange when people are surprised when these fan games get struck down...
They take down a fan game but they refuse to sell the og or even make any good LOTR game, they just keep giving out the license to indie studios trying to sell their terrible broken games with lotr slapped onto it
Bring it back !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Xbox !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1 view in 38 seconds. Fell off.
I would pay an absurd amount of money to be able to play this game again 🥲
