Charlamagne was 100% correct. Stop wishing things were different and live in reality. If you have, stay away from the have nots. Flexing that you're in the hood is never the correct choice.
This the one! Social media has made people lose touch with reality. The real world has predators and we have to adapt.
Exactly
WORD!!
I agree. Times have changed so we have to change with the times. We have to move different. Sadly.
Facts. And Envy is talking from a point of a have not a have not.
Angela Yee is right. A lot of times these guys in the streets arent starving or desperate. They just want to live the street life and want the clout from being known to be in the streets.
That’s why as a culture we have to stop embracing the streets and folks in the streets so much.
RIP to PnP Rock
Exactly! I been saying this smh these ppl aren’t doing this on a survival mentality, it’s literally to flex & get some clout. Killing ppl for clout is a real thing now smh
An how she know she a man or in thr street shut up bozo
It's all about money wtf
Rich people = scam
Poor people = kill rich people
Bro What a fuked up logic 😂
@@RealisticWonderKid it ain’t all about money. Plenty of people join gangs and brag about crimes they’ve committed for reputation and clout.
You just naive if you don’t know that.
My brother and I were having a conversation like this a month ago after someone went into his truck and tossed all his stuff around looking for something to steal. They didn’t break any windows, he left his door unlocked. He says he should be able to leave his doors unlocked if he wants to because he worked hard for his stuff, but I told him, that’s true, you SHOULD be able to, but that’s not the reality we live in fam.
You SHOULD be able to flap your arms and fly or fart and go to Mars and back safely. Unfortunately, the laws of physics disagree. Criminology ain't physics, but I'm pretty sure it has a pretty relevant branch called Victimology.
Facts do that shit on bet awards show or something not ina hood
We should be able to live how we want regardless of how things are. Do that and for some that made the world a better place by some measure.
He leaves his doors unlocked because he doesn’t leave any valuables and he doesn’t want the chances of his window being busted window
I agree with both, but rappers get robbed with or without jewellery on.
Hip Hop was defined as Peace Unity Love and Having Fun. These wicked record labels saw us coming together because of it. Gangsta Rap was formed, glorifying the disrespect of our women, smoking your brother and so here we are. BUT THAT WAS NOT THE START OF HIP HOP. We spoke of what was going on in our communities. We corrected each other, supported each other.
I’m from Philly, we don’t have a lot of people who make it out the hood. To lose PNB Rock hurts bad.
Lots of people make it out from Philly there’re just not celebrities
@@goldenopportunity31 Dude just talking
@@goldenopportunity31 he’s talking about public figures the world knows and millionaires….do you understand context?
Tons of black men and women made out the roughest sections of Philly. They went to school got thier education and left. It's more successful black men and women other than Rappers and Athletes. But the black community doesn't celebrate this.
Rip to that young man . Tragic 🙏🏼
Its really easy to blame the jewelry or blame gf or blame social media. There’s alot that can be said but I think people underestimate the moral corruption that is developing among ppl. It’s people out here knocking old ladies in the head with hammers in the subway for a purse that may or may not have money in it. Senseless violence is at an all time high because ppl have NO EMPATHY
Speak on it please 🗣💯
I feel like society is almost rewarding sociopathic behavior these days.
Dis shit been going on for decades. Social media just gives u a front seat to it. If u from the hood dis is a daily occurrence
This why I work hard so I can live in a nice neighborhood in a nice house that's really comfortable inside so I can stay inside and stay away from the crazies.
@@jocelyncooper1738 they normalize it as just being a way of survival..it’s sick
This was actually a really good talk, they haven't been in the spirit like this in a while.
Charlemagne is absolutely correct! This is our reality unfortunately.
So we know the problem. What do we do to change it? Shouldn't be the reality. Should aspire to be better always.
The older I get, the more I realize that this world keeps getting worse!! Losing him like that is simply wrong! You can't have anything without people coming for what you've worked so hard for
You trippin. Americans use to get payed for skinning the scalps of native Americans. And that’s just one small example of violence in America. Violence is the lowest it’s ever been amongst people in the American land.
Exactly this world is in the end times pure evil.
There are good places in the world. Every place is not the hood.
Absolutely
The world has gotten a lot better tbh..
There was a lot more barbaric stuff back in the day.. Just take the Romans for instance..
Along with having cures to diseases and more food..
That couldn't be the farthest thing from the truth to be honest but I do see what you're trying to say
As a youth, I used to live in Long Beach across the street from the milk dairy on California Street, known now as MLK, St. I currently live in The Valley/Los Angeles area. I don't wear jewelry in certain places because I want to live. PNB Rock was in a "VERY BAD" area, which is considered the Belly of the Beast. Also, I grew up in Long Beach, by Kings Park, down the street from Snoop, The Twins, and Warren G. I was never afraid of the gang members back in my day. Actually, they were a form of protection for me. But, this is a differnet world now. We have to make better decisions and strategic moves with efforts to stay safe, and that pertains to where ever you live or go. I am in agreement with Charlmagne and his PERSPECTIVE ON THIS ISSUE IS ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My prayers and condolences goes to his two little girls, friends, fans and family. Rest in peace, Rock. This situation is beyond pathetic and so sad. I am so tired of this. Everyone, please protect your families and continue to stay safe and healthy. God Bless, from an elder ❤🙏
I don’t understand out of all the Roscoes he went there. He was better off going to the one in Pasadena. I’m from Cali too
@@MsToni-cy3in He wasn't familiar with the area. They probably hopped off the freeway saw Roscoe's and decided to go there. There's another one about 4 miles west in Inglewood but if you're unaware of the area, what do you do? At 1pm on a Monday that intersection looks different than 1pm on a Satuday. We should be able to move around as we please, where what we want. But living here in LA myself, I learned from an early age where to wear what. Reppin' my favorite baseball team almost cost my life at 16 years old. This whole lifestyle is pathetic and sad like you said. Makes no sense what our people doing to each other.
@@MsToni-cy3in EXACTLY!! A much more safer and beautiful environment. I am lost for words!
@@TroySupermanGentle I totally agree with you. That makes a lot of sense. But, I am sure most of us would know a bad area when we see one. 🤔 It is a jungle out here! I am glad you made it out of your situation. Continue to stay safe n healthy, my friend.
@@TroySupermanGentle yes I agree with you 100% we should be able to go anywhere but like CTG said that’s not reality.
“If you can’t afford to protect what you have, you cant afford to have it…” FACT
This was a great debate/discussion!
I recall one brother saying..."if you got it and I don't, somebody is not making it home." It was the most asinine, ignorant, pathetic cluster of words I've ever heard. Actually it infuriated me! Instead of going through the trials and tribulations of getting off your ass and work, you rather take from others.
Crazy
And just to think, as an evolved species, we live in an environment full of primal scenarios, motivations and actions... It's not race, it's not culture, it's primal ignorance with a core of pure evolved wickedness...
and if someone don't make it home, he's going to hell! I hope it's worth it for him.
I’m with Charlemagne on this one. I say it ALL the time…it’s not just about how things SHOULD be…it’s how things ARE!!! Move accordingly!!! RIP PNB 🙏🏾
Pop Smoke wasn’t in the hood when he was attacked. Nipsey was bringing positivity and buying back the hood.
I wonder if white folks have move accordingly conversations in their neighborhoods
Well, unlike our community, when they leave a bad or messed up situation or environment they dip and don’t look back. They don’t feel a sense of obligation or need to “Be with their people in the hood.”.
I remember the Game a couple years back talked about the moment that made him say “f*** this, I’m out!!!” And leave his hood. He said a drive by happened (I think he was the target even) and although he was ok, that shit hit his kid’s car seat dead in the headrest. SMH, he was hella lucky but that shouldn’t have been the reason. Mind you, this happened when the Game started poppin during “The Documentary” days…
Take the world as it is not as you’d like it to be, PERIOD!!!
Facts

My condolences and prayers to his family.
Yes
There was some good points brought up during the show and some pretty good comments,”It’s time for us to start exercising some of these great points”.
Charlemagne 100% right we can’t control what people do but we can control our actions to take preventive measures
I noticed a horrible trend of rappers getting dropped like crazy during these past years. One after another. I pray for his family.
This been going on since forever people walk around like they invincible and just because they have they gun think they safe majority of time it's 2 or 3 guys that attack you so this is why it's so important to have security
Perhaps we need less rappers and more engineers, economists, doctors, plumbers, community activists, educators, etc.
Its definitely on an uptick on the frequency
rappers are being targeted and set up. The girl he was with sent out her location on her phone. When she did that they knew where she was. In LA rappers are being targeted are being robbed. They killed this guy for his rings. They immediately showed up after she posted the photo. THIS B IS IN ON IT. They should have taken her phone because I believe the killers number is probably on it.

Charlemagne is the voice of reason. I agree with him completely.
I agree with him to a degree. I don’t like how he automatically jumps to the systemic poverty thing. He doesn’t know what those people’s motives were. I agree there’s is poverty that causes crime but so do just regular evil people.
@@mars8923 Exactly. Even Charlemagne's solutions of "just hiring security" only perpetrates the problems and worsens the divide. Hiring security is not the solution. We need to all get together, sit down, and address the sin in our hearts. The greatest issue is our sin. It gets no higher than this. We're all screwing up.
Why do Envy KEEP GOING BACK to what you SHOULD be able to do in the hood with your jewelry etc. Yes, we get what we SHOULD be able to do. The issue is what Charlemagne is saying. Let’s deal with the way it actually is NOW and not what we’d like it to be.
Amen! I really don't get why he wants to floss in front of people who are starving. It's common sense that even animals have. They don't go where danger is
@@longshotsmedia exactly!
Because this isn't just happening in the hood, because rappers getting killed for chains isn't the issue. Regular people are getting killed for nothing. Donkey of the day a few weeks ago went to a man that killed another man because his momma got cold fries from Mickey Ds. Like what??? Even if say a jewelry shouldn't be worn in the hood, you can't act like killing people at their place of employment is okay
classic "In theory vs reality" dynamic he's missing. In theory everything should be a way, but that's not how reality is
Man has been living good for too long.
It doesn’t matter what you SHOULD be able to do. You gotta be extra careful in these streets
i never heard of this rapper but he didn't deserve to lose his life so tragically
You guys are all correct, as my grandparents use to say, "it's not what you do but how you do it ".
@Illuminati Tv as I stated, it's not what you do but how you do it . The duality of life is how you move in society will either make or break you... your choice.
I agree with everybody. A rapper with money SHOULD be able to go wherever they want and not be touched BUT that’s not the reality of really anybody not just rich people. People should be able to post their location and not come back to find their house robbed BUT that’s not our reality. Sadly. Our community needs therapy, help and guidance. This was so unnecessary.
Exactly. And just give it up and buy another also its what insurance is for!!!!!
Most rappers are former drug dealers and former gang bangers. Most rappers rap about killing and dying. Rappers dying is not something you can stop or control.

I did not like the victim blaming during the segment, PNB was not bothering anyone.

I’m with Charlemagne 100%. Even with the systemic oppression tactics in place, you just have to move accordingly given this harsh reality. There’s no, it shouldn’t be this and that…IT IS THIS AND THAT and that’s all one needs to know to move right. If you wanna be truly FREE, the rap lifestyle and luxuries that comes with it is not part of God’s Law and neither is jewelry. There is a grey area but it seems only artists like J. Cole knows how to operate within it. Change will happen when we stop glorifying the wrong things.
Your right yes indeed
Absolutely well stated!!!
CTG is 100% correct. These rappers know when they are out in public, they know it's a legit jungle and it's grimey out here. This convo made me think back to Kendrick Lamar's song "Institutionalized" the 2nd Verse is literally the mindset of most of these dudes out here that are in these jungles waiting to catch someone slipping. It's sad he lost life over something replaceable because someone wanted something they could work for. But this proves the point of once people get money, they move away from the hood

with this whole Black Lives Matter trend be glad in 2003 my hispanic female rap musician friend did not reveal this same information that people are using as an excuse to commit recent Anarchy.
What does this have to do with PNB rock death?
This society makes it seem like it is a black-on-black crime but a lot of times many shady white people and hispanic do be studying blacks who appear successful or getting by only to sabotage them.
A friend of mine who's African American and lives in Portland, Oregon collects bottles and cans for $$$ with each can, plastic, or glass bottle costing 0.10c a piece to cash in. Since he was doing it for 10 years he's had mostly white people question him sometimes even attempted to attack him over it. He witness many whites recycle to make money and there were never any problems until he started collecting and recycling.
Just remember the white people were the ones studying these probably black teenagers on youtube and social media shaking their asses until they came across the Twerk team and took that name and now a person shaking their ass is now a big thing. Remember blacks do not own mainstream media and Bill Cosby began suffering his troubles when he attempted to buy CBS.

It is truly shocking to watch DJ envy not understand how there will always be envious people in this world.
Ironic because his name is literally “DJ Envy”. Why use a name when you don’t fully understand the definition and meaning behind it?

I just think it's extremely dangerous to live based on how things should be without accepting the reality of how things are. This is one of the main things I struggle with in raising my children, especially in/around hip hop culture. I tried to inject them with all the principles, morals, and responsibilities of being a good, hard working, upstanding person in this world; however, IT IS IMPERATIVE that I make sure they understand not everyone thinks like this and that there is constant danger they must be aware of. We can talk until we're blue in the face about how things should be and how people should be, but if we don't acknowledge, accept, and prepare for how things are, we won't survive. So for everyone out there try to have balance and I wish you good luck.
I agree with you and Charla. I think Envy needs to hear it in the perspective of a father to understand better, because I'm sure he's very protective of his girls. For example, when sharing pictures of my daughter online, or even something as simple as going to the beach... I make sure she is covered up, and age appropriate... because although we say to ourselves that no one should be looking at our kids in a sexual manner, that is not the unfortunate reality. So we take certain steps to protect them. Don't simply look at things for the way we wish it could be, but how it actually is. Be PROACTIVE.
Why the camera person was focused on Envy phone while he was texting? Lol
One of the most realest topics I've seen on here fr. I've watched this twice now. It's the fact that a chain is worth more than a life. That 3rd caller in the first segment was correct, we can’t keep blaming “systemic” issues, this is a cultural problem. Pop smoke was at his house in the suburbs and got killed in his own home. There is opportunity out there, people need to seek it.
Facts
I agree with Charla, but you're absolutely right, that 3rd caller was correct too... and Charla kinda dismissed his point. Yes, we have been put at a disadvantage systematically, but there are also plenty of opportunities that we did not have in the past that are very much so available today. We cannot simply continue blame this on the system. It's just that a lot of people don't want to work for it, and see it as easier to just take it from the next person. I know many people, raised in poverty, who overcame hurdles to make it out. It starts with education. Tell these kids the truth... not everybody can be a millionaire, live in a mansion, and have nice cars... Not everyone can be a rapper or an athlete. Kill the jealousy and envy at young... and stop the idolization of celebrities, and social media stars. This is causing the drive for them to steal what they THINK they can't have or work for. Also, a lot of mainstream rap glorifies violence, but no one wants to talk about that part. These stations will continue to play these peoples music, and they still get bookings to do shows etc. Then we have to continuously have conversations like this... surrounding X rappers death. It's a vicious cycle that won't end.

@@nk7925 he's really not tho. If a white man killed him, it would be a manhunt. We just let ourselves off the hook when it comes to black on black violence
Speaking of PnB jewelry, did anyone ask this brother during the 2019 interview about the infamous RING he was rocking? The same one associated with many other fallen rappers (Pac, Dolph, Moe, Pop Smoke) ect?
You are both right!
I have to agree with CTG. You can't be stunting on the hood and think everything sweet; it ain't.
@Milly facts people are trying to be so tough now security guards why Don't rapper's have security guards
Charlamagne and DJ Envy both made valid points from similar but different perspectives. So sick of all the evil in this world. That’s basically all it is is demons and our people being controlled by em.
Agreed both perspectives are necessary
That's the thing...they're both correct and both stances need to be addressed
@@supastar25 agreed
I’m not wrap too tight been single for a min now shid I might have to stick sumn up if I don’t stick sumn soon😂😂😂
Sometimes you can’t even tell it’s the hood especially when it’s all sunny outside and your just driving by
I agree with Charlamagne, some hoods you just shouldn’t go. And I agree with the jewelry thing, it be too much.
Yeah but that's irrelevant Pop Smoke got killed in a mansion in a high end neighborhood. These lil savages will go anywhere to get what they want. It doesn't matter where you are, I think for now all artists should just leave that expensive shit at home, roll with more security, or both. Because this is happening way too often.
@@DaygoG nah if you flash expensive stuff in the hood you a walking target
@@CamPerry obviously, I'm not arguing that. I'm saying these lil scum bags in LA don't even care where it's at. They'll follow you into a fancy hotel lobby and line you up if they want. Location is irrelevant.

And whatever you do ALWAYS move in silence cause there’s way too many haters on this earth
Even with blood also

So true!!
This debate is tuff I agree with both
Charlamagne is spitting facts totally agree with everything you said.
Sigh. We need to start having discussion in our community and start holding ourselves accountable. I know the white man is the easiest to blame(and most justifiably) but we gotta start being responsible for shit going on in our community. Shit is sad.
And I don't wanna hear about I'm a coon or whatever. That's an easy out and easiest way to avoid REAL discussion. Idgaf about what white people are doing, I care about MY community. This will continue to happen and at some point we can't deflect the blame. There's other things white people have done to the black community but this disruptive behaviors is OUR responsibility. I'm tired
This comment right here!!!
Most corruption and crime in society is top-down. Whenever folks begin to talk about the crimes of the poor and oppressed in a society, they have to start by looking at the top and the system in which it operates. We live in a society that provokes crime (i.e. capitalism). Everything is working as it was designed. In a perfect world, all gang members and street criminals would have the spirit of our revolutionary ancestor George Jackson but that's not where we are.
Unfortunately, Black criminality in its current state often serves two purposes: 1) Communal repression - Black predatory behavior targeted towards other oppressed people helps to prevent any type of awakening or uprising that would be otherwise targeted towards the oppressor ruling class. 2) Protective stereotyping - the true criminals (oppressors, ruling class, racists, Black misleadership class, etc.) can absolve themselves of their crimes by simply pointing at all the criminal shit going on in the poor and oppressed communities. This happens all the time which is how the "black-on-black crime" term came to be.
Amos Wilson broke this all down in his book, Black-On-Black Violence: The Psychodynamics of Black Self-Annihilation in Service of White Domination. It's dense but it's a good read if you can get through it. Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome by Joy DeGruy Leary is another good read.

I'm from LA and not to many ppl in LA would pull up to roscoes on main and Manchester... it's surrounded by like 4 different major gangs... plus it's hard to get in and get out because it's a small parking lot
People not from LA won’t understand. I’m from Westside south central. Growing up never went to the east side. Everyone know it’s super grimey over there. It’s a deadzone.
At first I thought he was from out of town and just didn’t know where he was at. But after listening to an interview where he talks about going to watts and hanging in different hoods he knew exactly where he was at.

There is no excuse or reason for someone to lose their life over property. Until our community can destroy this crabs in a barrel mentality these senseless acts of violence will continue to happen.

It will never stop..read The Bell Curve....the best thing a functioning productive Black person can do is leave the Black 'community'
failed a long time ago because it's not stopping. $20 an hour can't get you the smallest apartment in Los Angeles. Life not that important to these poeple, it's easier to do crime and fall into the sinkhole when the living conditions are this way.
@@9xrumi362 For YEARS AND YEARS, you could not give property away in South Central and to a lesser extent, East L.A... property was pennies on the dollar .... now they are crying about 'gentrification' ... well, how about those MILLIONS AND MILLIONS of dollars that went through the hood and were spent on low-lows.. jewelry.. clothes.. shoes..parties etc etc ... shoulda been buying real estate...
What do you think war is about? People Lossing their lives over land, oil wealth which in reality is property it's not just our people it's all of mankind.
This crabs in a barrel mentality is the mentality of the world countries invade other countries to possess their wealth their land and their people it's not just the Black community.

No you need to be praying that the black community get their crap together and stop making excuses for these criminals.
Envy setting his self up for failure with his mindset he doesn't want except the world for what it is and he will fail thinking about how the world should be vs how the world is.
Y’all need to turn the lights on in there
I'm with Char on this. If You Can't Afford To Protect Then You Don't Need To Buy It.
exactly!
Nah bruh that's dumb ... You should be able to enjoy your shit
Buy what you want, don’t flash it in front of people that can’t afford it because it provokes jealousy and unfortunately ends in tragedy. Do you see Jay-Z eating at a McDonalds near Marcy Projects??
@@StopSelfDoubting it totally agree, however I think people like DJ envy were holding killers accountable period. You can't use "systematic" issues or the whyte man as an excuse forever. I'm sure he's not going to the local McDonalds in the projects somewhere.
Charlamagne is bringing up an excellent point about our perception of what's really real that I've honestly never heard before.
I live in a suburb north east of Los Angeles. Whenever I go to Los Angeles I don't flash anything. I don't wear jewelry because I don't want to draw attention to myself. We just know.
One thing and the most Important thing that they missed… people have a lack of spirit.. no one speaks about working on your spirit… can’t fix everything else and the foundation ain’t right
Da god the only one who makes sense in this conversation
Per usual
We have to teach our kids to value something other than material things.
Real good topic
DJ Envy for the win. Work for yours.
They’re both right. Envy is right in theory. Charlamagne is right in practice.
I legally paid for it, I should be able to wear it any and everywhere.
Also… I should be aware that in some places, people will try to take my shit illegally, and I could lose my life over this shit… so I should either plan for that (security), or move differently (stay out the hood)
Spam this comment. Yes!
Charlamagne was on point with everything he said. If you buy flashy things, you gotta protect it, and if you can't protect it don't buy it. I also agree with DJ envy. If you work hard for what you got, you should be able to do and go wherever you want. But unfortunately things changed and people changed over time and over the years.
Or just don't wear it everywhere!
@@aimannouredeen6131 Right, exactly!
Things have not changed l. Check this out If you were flossing '93 Ford mustang 5.0, wearing gold chains you will be jacked at a Burger King. If you were gotti in the sixties you will be jacked by junkie for that Blue Magic. If you wore nice clothes and had a chest on a stagecoach you will get robbed by bandits and that's many places in the world
Right
CTG 🗣 Speaking facts!
Exactly! It is definitely always about what we know to be true. Nothing we want for values are ever valued by criminals. People, these folks are brutal, and never will do what you want. So, make certain that you are aware and alert from the moment that you walk out of your front door. Being flashy is not going to salvage you from criminals or protect you from harm. If you want to invest, invest in body amour, education, and give back to your neighborhoods. You can be a star, and not have to live like that. Just be yourself, and remember, the neighborhoods do not have it like that, and do want to know that you are there with it like that not contributing but thinking it's o.k. to flaunt it to those who have nothing. So, don't do it! As well, please, please, do not dress your kids like that. Just be incognito when they revisit the hood, that way, you can be and stay well. Your life is much more important than stuff. As well as the life of your family and children, so do not jeopardize them. 🤗
