My first Sig was a P220 purchased back in the 90's. Over the years I have also owned a P226 and a P229 in 357 sig, but I did not like the grip on the staggered mag pistols. I traded the 229 in on a second Sig 45, a P220ST. Both P220's have been absolutely reliable, as were the 226 and 229 for the short time I owned them. I have tried other semi autos along the way but I am most proficient with the Sig P220's, by a large margin. I like the idea of high cap mags, but 7 hits is better than 15 misses.

You're damn right. The 229/226 are tanks. They shoot anything and I found that the .40 caliber 165 loaded hot seemed to work the best in it. But regular ole 180 grain worked fine in it too. I never liked the 155s or the 135s. 165-180 worked great in it.
      In the 9mm variant, I never found a 9mm round I didn't like in it. 115, 124, 147, they all worked great.

The P226 MK25 was my first gun. I bought it the first time I ever went shooting. I went with a friend who had a 226 in 40 and that was the first gun I ever shot. I knew I wanted a 9mm but loved that gun so I immediately walked out of the range into the store and looked for one, saw the MK25 and knew it was for me. Great pistol. I carried a SIG P228 (compact version of the 226) for 19 years as a plainclothes duty pistol. We had to buy our own pistols from an approved list of handguns. This was in 1990 when I went into plainclothes duty after 17 years in uniform. There were plenty of other handguns available, including the Glock 19 and S&W 39, 59 and 69 series. But after lots of consideration and trials, I chose the SIG P228. It was my primary duty handgun until I retired in 2009.
I much preferred the DA/SA hammer fired system and I liked the fact it had no manual safety, just a decocker. I had started my career with DA revolvers and then carried a Beretta 92FS for a few years before I went to plainclothes. I still prefer, and use, DA/SA or DAO hammer fired handguns for my EDC.
I still own the P228 and shoot it frequently. It has never malfunctioned in 33 years.

It just feels right in my hands, so I spent double what the Glock 17 would have cost. The P226 was the best double stack option at the time (2007). The Sig P226 is a great firearm. I have found that I like the P225-A2 much better. It's a single stack 9mm that in my opinion is the predecessor to the Legion series of pistols. It looks like a smaller version of the P226/P229, but feels much batter in your hands and it's extremely accurate and reliable.
My wife took a CCW class and selected this pistol to fire with as one of the loaner pistols. After she proceeded to shred the bulls eye target the instructor asked, "didn't you tell me that you had never shot before?" to which she responded "that is correct". He told her that she had found her pistol, but too bad, since Sig Sauer didn't produce it anymore. When she got home she showed me her targets and repeated what the firearms instructor had told her. The next day we immediately began looking for this pistol. Somehow it seems that there is a specific pistol that just works right for an individual. I'm still looking.

Are you trying to convince us that it’s a good gun or yourself? I have an old early 80’s P226 that I carried as a duty weapon for many years, and I will never get rid of it. A great gun by anyone’s standards. But, at the same time, I will not be buying any of the new SIGs. Years ago, for some reason the whole culture of the company shifted and it never recovered. One problem after another. I just don’t trust them with my life anymore.

I was lucky enough to acquire a surplus Sig 226/Mk 25. It was my first Sig pistol. I bought it because I wanted that piece of nostalgia, and I wanted to try a DA/SA semi-auto. I like the heavier weight. After shooting it out to consider pistol distances, 50+ meters, it quickly became my favorite pistol, and still is. I added a TLR-8 light/laser to the rail and made it one of my carry weapons. Talk about smooth operation and flawless! I have a couple other Sigs now and like them too, but my P226 Navy is the best of the group. 👍

I've got a P226 MK25 and the first thing I did was put Sig's SRT (Short Reset Trigger) Kit in it and an E2 grip on it. Love the gun with one exception... the weight. Whether it be working on a range all day, working in the store or (before I blew my knees out) runnin & gunnin. The one thing I found that may be exactly what you're talking about with POA v POI is that using a Combat Sight Picture is this gun's favorite. And finally when I say TY for your Service, it's not a trite compliment. Since then, I have trained and carried the P226 in CA… another phenomenal firearm! The training mechanics related to hammer-fired pistols are perfectly stated. Have to agree. My W. German P226 (with the frame rail) performs constantly and consistently, and will never be sold or replaced. If I had to pick one handgun for the rest of my life, the 226 would be it. Any time I take a new shooter to the handgun range, I start them on the 226, and they always do well. POA/POI is very natural, and the weight of the frame and slide absorb recoil beautifully. And the large grip is perfect for my big mitts. Keep an older Gen Glock 17 to maintain my striker fluency, but not my thing. My son rated Sharpshooter on his handgun qualification with a well maintained 320, which he was really impressed with. I will say, I am also a big fan of the basic Sig 1911 Nitron. Mine functions like a champ for a factory produced, non-smithed 1911 - and you 1911 shooters out there know what I’m talking about.

I was a police officer for 8 years and we used the P226 in .40cal. I was on a specialized unit and we put a lot of rounds through our guns. The only issues we ever saw was some frame cracking on the rear tang on very, very high round count guns (think mid 90s frames with 25 years of use) and I think shooting .40cal in a 9mm design was the cause of that. Also some recoil springs breaking because our armorers had terrible history for maintenance tracking. I've shot my P226 in competition (2 gun style) and have scooped handfuls of grit and sand into empty magwells. Just seperated the slide from the frame, shook it out and it was good to go. There are a lot of things you can complain about with the gun, but the utter failure proof nature of the gun is amazing.

Result is smooth rolling letoff at 4.5 lbs. Sort of a short-light DAO. I carry it in condition 3, per my Army training. Accordingly, risk of a mishap is virtually nil.

No matter which “team” you subscribe to in the Sig family, you cannot deny there was controversy surrounding the reliability of the 320/365 (striker) family when they released. Like it or not, this is ALWAYS gonna give Glock some “ammo” in the argument. …annoying as it may be to you. It’s gonna take some years for Sig to wear that off. Every firearm has gone through the same growing pains. Glock is on Gen 5 now. They’ve been in the game 30 years, refining one design. The collective R&D around the world for people living and dying using those guns is probably a number that makes the devil turn his head. If guns are “tools” then tools are just simple things that operate a function. Combust and project. Designs don’t HAVE to change to operate that function. It’s like obsessing over nail-guns for construction. Wouldn’t you just get the nail-gun with the best reputation since you’ll be using the f*ck out of it?

Bought my first West German 226 at Three little pigs gun shop - Indiana after night shift at all night drug store in the hood on Arlington Ave. It replaced my 10mm Delta Elite. Security work in 1991 never a dull shift left because of complaints from customers they wanted it to stay wild and easy pickings. They'd rather have a armed robbery than a shootout.

I would recommend the Sig Sauer SP2022, excellent handgun, very reliable, accurate combined with excellent value for money. Never could understand why sig doesn't market it more.

    • @colesutra
      @colesutra Рік тому

Compared to every other handgun Sig (currently) produces, the SP2022 is the biggest pain in the ass to service because of the frame components (with the 322 coming in a close second). Never worked on a Mosquito, but I've heard they're real bad too. That aside, apparently a lot of people just don't trust the concept of a plastic-classic
But I wholeheartedly agree with you. My SP2022 is my favorite range handgun. It's just a real cozy shooter. The geometry and weight distribution hits a perfect balance that gives it excellent recoil recovery. If they were more reliable, it would be my carry gun. Just got it's metal frame cousin (a 229 variant), but haven't gotten to shoot it yet. Chances are pretty good that I'll have a new favorite after I do.

I'm a retired Seabee who spent 10+ years serving with Naval Special Warfare. I bought A Mk 25 226 after my summer vacation to Iraq, where I carried one. What a gun! yeah, the grips suck, the high bore axis, blah blah blah. It runs like a locomotive and looks cool. the other sig that doesn't suck is their 1911. I don't know about today, but mine is 10 or 12 years old, and they were hand fitted at the time, and it runs smooth as butter, and super reliable. it's as heavy as a brick
