    What a dummy I am. I looked for videos AFTER I filled my scratches. This tip is fantastic and it's just common sense. It should be written on the pen package. Thanks!

    Oh my gosh Michael, I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to share this little gem of knowledge!! I don't feel nearly as overwhelmed and powerless as I have, just thinking about all my scratches. I'm excited to go get a stain marker and follow your amazing advice. Thank you!!

    All I can say to you, sir, is: God Bless you, may only the most wonderful and best things happen to you and come into your life. We rent a home in a historic area of Richmond, VA with 80 y/o gorgeous oak wood floors. When we moved in, I drove my adult kids crazy making them put felt protectors on all of their bedrm furniture and on every piece of furniture in the house. I purchased a large area rug for the livingrm, and for christmas this year, I moved the sofa to an unprotected area and when I went to put it back, I discovered -- to my horror -- the pad had fallen off and there were/are deep scratches on the floor -- I about had a heart attack, but decided to see if YT had a solution, and found your video -- I'm going today to buy the supplies -- thank you so much for posting -- seriously appreciate it.

    Thanks, Michael. You're a life saver. Just before your video, I watched one which involved sanding, wood filler, re-sanding and applying a finishing coat. In the first minute I thought, "no way!" And the scratches on the wood in the demo were not as deep as those in your video! As you so rightfully said in your demonstration, seek out a pro before you get into [sandpaper, wood filler, varnish], especially if you're a first time woodworker like me.

      Michael Purser 2:20 How bout if you used the correct stain that actually matched the stain of the wood? Seems like a no-brainer to me!

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  9 років тому +1

      Lenny F My experience has been that if you try and use the same stain, the scratch will be darker. You can always start out lighter and go darker but not vice versa. However, you are welcome to try your method. Let me know how it goes.

    I am so glad to have found this video. We have beautiful 50+ year old oak hard wood floors in our home and unfortunately, unsightly scratches on them from years of enjoyment.
    Your video was very informative and helpful. Our scratches will show no more after our next inevitable trip to the hardware store. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. It is appreciated!

    Michael - thank you so much for making this video. We moved a piece of exercise equipment up the stairs and it scratched them which has been a bit heartbreaking. This is a huge help.

    Getting our house ready to sell and this video is exactly what I was looking for, have a few small scratches in my office from a desk chair with plastic wheels, this method should be ideal for touching those up and making the floor presentable when the house is shown. Thanks so much for this video.

    All I have to say is WOW! I even happen to have just the right color stain marker on hand from years ago. As I lightly rubbed the stain into the heavy scratch, it disappeared right before my eyes. Thank you so much for this video. Like most people I most likely would have tried to apply the stain right from the marker as I always have in the past and have been left scratching my head why it always looked worse.

    Very easy worked great best idea is to use a cloth! Thank you so much for taking the time to go over the method, I applied marker to cloth & it looked dark but alas when working slowly into the scratch it was perfect match. Definitely took my time as suggested.

    I was skeptical about using mayonnaise on scratches on my hardwood floor, but I tried it anyways and it's seriously works. It doesn't get rid of the scratches all completely but it fades it by a lot. it's worth a try

    Michael, love your video. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge. Too bad, I didn't watched this video before I applied stain marker directly on the scratch, the way how directions says. Now, I made it worse. Is there any way I can fix this without replacing wood?

    Hi Michael. Thank you for making the video! When a repair results in a "darker scratch", is that usually because one uses too much stain, as you show in the video, or because one is using the wrong Minwax shade? I suspect that both of these reasons cause the issue - in your experience, which mistake is more frequent? Thanks in advance for your help!

    That’s basically what we call a bandaid fix.
    Scratches should be lightly sanded with a 2000 grit paper then restain. You internet guys amaze me.

    I recently refinished my hardwood floors with a urethane coating. A couple days later the finish got scratched, so I cleaned it and applied more finish to the area, but it's still visible in the light. The area around the scratches is glossy but the scratched area is flat. Should I sand the scratched area down?

    Thanks. Actually, stain markers are not universally available. But the cloth application idea was excellent and something anyone, anywhere can do using stain which IS available everywhere. Great suggestions but the scratch was hidden, not repaired. Repair is intended to avoid re-coating.

    If I watched the video after applying the stain marker to the scratch and it made it worse, how can you reverse the flaw? The stain looks darker now and you can see the scratch more.

    Good morning Michael, to remove rejuvenate from my hardwood floors what would you use?
    Thank you.

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  11 місяців тому +1

      That is a question you need to putting to the manufacturers of Rejuvenate. They need to tell you what products and equipment you need to remove it. I don’t work with it and know nothing about it other than the fact there are a lot of very unhappy homeowners who have used it.

    Would it be better to wipe the surface with the grain of the wood?

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  2 роки тому +1

      I really don’t think he would make that much difference. The stain marker really doesn’t have a lot of color in it like a stain straight out of a can. But if you would feel more comfortable doing it that way, by all means do it that way.

    I used a dark color stain on the scratch as compared to the color of stain on the floor can you please let me know how to fix it?

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  5 років тому

      Unfortunately the darker stain was absorbed into the cut and your options are not very good. You may want to lightly dampen a cloth with mineral spirits and rub the spot with that in an attempt to remove some of the color but I would not have high expectations. Best of luck and thanks for your comment.

    How to remove or modify a scratch that has too much stain from marker?

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  7 років тому

      the only suggestion i could make would be to use a solvent, such as mineral spirits, to lightly remove the excess. i would stress the term lightly and make sure the rag is lightly moistened, not soaked. you want to do this gradually, very gradually, to avoid replicating the mistake you made by adding too much.

      Isabel Tatoiu The item I'm using in the video is Stain Marker made by Minwax and you should be able to find it at hardware stores, Home Depot, Lowe's or paint stores. Thanks for watching.

    • @RosebudCompany
      @RosebudCompany  8 місяців тому

      I don't know if you are making a comment or asking a question. The flooring I'm working with is white oak and has no stain on it. It is finished natural with nothing but a clear coating over the wood. The stain marker I'm working with is a light golden oak. Applying the stain using the method I demonstrate allows you to blend the scratch so that it is less noticeable.
