He looked much older than 22. In a good and impressive way, not in a bad way. May he rest in peace. I’ve heard great things about him from an interview with I think one of his brothers.
They even send kids to pick up the cases after firefights, to reuse them. The only thing they leave behind is ied:s. But you really think they leave their dead and you really think they would stay there when they knew a bunch of american soldiers, with all kinds of backup would come there? 🙄 They knew hitting that heli would make a whole lot of american soldiers really pissed.
The taliban released video footage of their attack on the 4 seals. The taliban cameraman was filming at the rear of his group, walking/running in a mobile firefight. The seals were injured with some of the first shots, but not mortally wounded. They attempted to perform a fighting retreat, at this point there still was 4 seals. For like a half hour, the taliban is tracking the seals, firing at them, they pull back, the taliban approach again & begin another fire fight. there is heavy gunfire while the taliban is advancing & the seals are wounded but trying to pull back. Eventually there's 3 seals. Idk where Marcus went. 1 seal is killed while on the move trying to disengage.. The 2 remaining seals were wounded too heavily to continue moving so they attempted to take up a defense laying behind a log. Eventually they were overrun. They were like 50ft from the other seal. Not to talk badly about luttrell, but the talibans video mainly captured just the 3 seals. They apparently didn't track the 4th one down but instead stripped the 3 seals of all their kit, everything of any value, even their boots. Imo, we have a pretty good understanding of what occurred. Theres not too much left unknown, besides Marcus luttrell personal actions.
I think you are mistaking the humility that is beaten into us at a young age for maturity. That really shows up on the battlefield. Ask the maintenance folks who repair the barracks, the frat boys at nearby universities, and the MPs in the towns where the 3 battalions are and I think they will have a different idea about a Rangers maturity. But yes they are humble, competent and ruthless warriors.

When is the seal community going to own up to this being not only a very poorly planned mission but also a massive loss of skilled lives that didn’t need to die the ways they did. Who signed off on this mission?
Read code over country . Seals are the sources, good ones , trying to save the soul of the brand. John champmens cover up and denial for his M.O.S. started a cancer of cover ups and lies started on ROBERTS RIDGE
With what is coming out, along with what will come out with operators from all branches start retiring. There is a common theme and that is toxic leadership. You never heard of SEALs from the 60's, 70's and the 80's writing books. Getting movie deals basically acting like a bunch of peacocks saying "look at me, I'm so great". No, they were still quiet and professional. If you ran into one in a store or a bar. You would not know they were ever a SEAL. It seems everything changed around 1990. You have to start at the top leadership, and work your way down. They are the one's who have to set the example. If the leadership is toxic. That example works it's way down the ranks. It's time they go back to being quiet professionals.
It will never happen. The navy’s numbers SKYROCKETED after these seal documentaries and movies all came out. They lure dumb people who want to be “hero’s” into jointing the navy thinking they have what it takes to be seals 99% of them fail miserably and end up chipping paint or scrubbing toilets on a ship in the middle of the ocean for 4 years instead. They knew they could turn a huge failure into a giant publicity stunt by having that “one survivor” who is a coward by the way. The funniest part is the Navy Seals aren’t even tier 1 operators sure Seal Team 6 is whoever the rest of the teams are tier 2. However because of all these movies and documentaries and books everyone thinks that they are the top of the line when it comes to our military when they are not.

I feeel bad for that pilot. He read a book that wasn’t written by Marcus. In fact,it was a budget version of Tom Clancy that wrote that book because they didn’t even spell the name of the operation correctly on the front. Its operation red wings while the book says operation redwing which is a whole different operation.
The Rangers were also the first guys to reach Extortion 17 when it happened too. They supposedly got there within 41 seconds after the crash. They done the body recovery on it too, just like on Redwings.
According to many the Navy gave him two choices. Face a court martial, or go with the story the navy came up with and live the rest of his life as a millionaire. After recent revelations I lost respect in the Navy Spec Ops community and leadership.

@@WCC-ps8jtlol it’s well known and basically irrefutable at this point that Luttrell’s account of what happened during ORW is mostly nonsense. But if you really believe the DOD would send 4 Navy SEALs to take on 200 Taliban, 100 Taliban, or even 50 Taliban armed with RPGs, PKM machine guns, AKs. As if the Taliban in pajamas and sandals could move 50 dead bodies off that steep mountain top in sweltering heat, without special equipment and without being spotted by the other Chinook flying overhead. The firefight was so easy for the 7 to 8 enemy fighters that they took time record two videos of the ambush. So you really believe Luttrell fell 90 feet on top of another mountain without even breaking any bones and his rifle still being intact and in his possession??? Right sure. If you believe Luttrell’s account in the book you might as well believe SEALs can walk on the moon with no spacesuit.
Marcus said he got knocked out about 5 times during the ordeal.. then how does he remember shit so clearly. I was knocked out in a boxing match and till this day I can’t remember after except for the fighter introductions.

Hey Jack and Dave, great episode. I'm catching up on your posts and saw one a while ago asking for suggestions for future guests. I don't know if you guys are still looking but if you are I'd like to suggest someone from Cobra Commandos from CRPF India, a few of their officers have come online to talk about their experiences. It is part of the Central Armed Police Forces (paramilitary) specialising in Jungle warfare mostly against communist insurgents. Some of them also went on to join NSG, the counter-terror unit. I think you guys will ask the pertinent questions. There are other interesting units as well. But these guys are pretty cool.
People trash Latrell, but just listen to how many people got hurt or had to be trucked out just looking for him. Nobody says he didnt have any bullet wounds or injuries. So just the fact that he stayed alive is impressive in my book. Take all the lone survivor stuff out of it.
The difference between luttrell and those rangers that got injured/exhausted in that incident, is that the rangers are honest. If you asked any of those rangers referenced they wouldn't lie about about happened while they were looking for luttrell. Luttrell is lying about what happened that time. Im not saying luttrells not tough, im saying he's a liar and is shitting on his teammates memories by not telling the truth.
Here’s my take. Luttrell seems quite a tortured man. IF he did fabricate elements of the story - I believe he was told to do it by higher ups, to damage control to protect the Seal branding. I think they persuaded him of the importance of retaining peoples positive view of the Seals, retaining the respect. I do not believe that he fabricated parts of the story for any other reason. Certainly not for money. I think if you listen to the guy interviews, is this man someone who gives a shit about money? I don’t believe that. I suspect that he’s eventually going to commit suicide. That’s my sense of the guy. So I don’t think he’s interested in the money at all. I think he bought into trying to protect the memory of his dead teammates, and protecting the image that the seals have. As a say, I think they prepped him, to believe what he was doing , ultimately would be the best thing for everyone involved…. IF he did fabricate elements of the story
I agree.. A lot of the interviews I’ve seen him in he looks high as a kite, and if asked a direct question he dances around answering it. He gets jittery and stumbles over his words.
He certainly fabricated the story. As team members, the brotherhood, how could you throw Danny under the bus when he was THE only one with experience in that region. I read the book, watch the movie and after ready the AAR, none of it made sense. 200 combatants with around 38 killed, Marines said there wasn’t that many taliban even in the region. Returning with all his mags is a complete tell. I’m embarrassed I fell for it. But it was well choreographed. He chose to lie about what happened. And to protect the SEALS brand? So they can continue to fck up missions?
I love all the weekend operators in the comments that have never saw combat clowning Luttrell, he said he dropped his rifle he said he was a coward what else do you want
@@K.Miller5150 Serious response. I was with 3/3 and we left that AO a month before everything went down. I did my research and everything comes back to Lettrell lying. I’ve heard on a lot shows that Marcus had 11 mags on him when the rangers picked him up. It was always from someone who heard it from the rangers, but I’ve never actually heard a ranger say that. Does anyone know if and where that info is directly from someone who was there?
This sounds a lot like the cluster fuck that things always become when shit goes south. It’s always a bonus when it goes smooth and nobody gets hurt/killed, usually doesn’t happen though.
@gordo3697 I don't see your point . Seal team six is a tier one right next to delta who are the best of the best. So you're comment has not substance to it
Wasnt 2/3 suppose to conduct this mission? They knew the risks, the area, the issue with comms and they were going to hump in from a much longer distance than the LZ.
On the video cam it cuts off at 11:00 most likely that was them coming by. And if they stayed a little longer maybe axe couldve been saved. At 10:30 axe was fighting alone cause there wasnt alot of gun fire and before that you could hear the rpg fired at them.
It never really hit me til I started watching these podcasts, why didn’t Marcus end up on that mountain with his teammates? How possibly do you make it out alive and your integrity be in tact. You should’ve been there for your brothers and let them die
Marcus is a bitch to flee under fire, leaving his friends for dead, then makes millions of off being a fake hero. That is stolen valor in my opinion. But, I am not in the military so I might not have all the information. Any veterans care to chime in? Much appreciated….cheers mates!
There was an interview video released by the group of militants that were involved in Red Wings. The interview was recorded on 28th June if I recall correctly, according to the timestamp on the video. I saw it on LiveLeak years ago. Anyways, it was recorded shortly after the whole thing. In the interview the militant was speaking a dialect of Pashto. I am a Pashto speaker too and even though the dialect was different to ours, I understood most of it. It was a quite detailed recall of the engagement but the main points were these. He said they were alerted at night to helicopter engine sounds. There were a dozen of them in the small village. He said they left before the sun came out for the hills and one of their guys found the fastrope the SEALs had left behind on insertion, that information was relayed to the rest of the group through radio. As Luttrell wrote in his book, when they set up the observation post, he found the small village vacant (unlike how the movie showed it). Anyways he further said that we spotted the SEALs when they were holding the group of goat herders. When the SEALs let go of the herders, they were followed up the mountain. The militants then split up and set up a 3 way ambush, they opened up on the SEALs with PKMs, AKs and RPGs. The only way left for the SEALs was to go down. SEAL or no SEAL, the kind of ambush they were in was very dangerous, and they were constantly being pinned down by belt fed PKMs. Outgunned, outmanevoured, and outnumbered, the SEALs were in big trouble. The whole thing lasted 20-25 minutes. One more thing I would like to add is that, in the combat video made by the militants, at one point you can hear one of them shout in Pashto "That one is running away, after him, don't let him get away". This was said while you could clearly hear 5.56 suppressed shots being fired by the SEALs. This leads me to believe that out of the 4 SEALs that fought that day, Luttrell was the only one who had a mental breakdown after the sudden ambush and just quit and made a run for it.

I feel people are often too quick to criticize Marcus, bordering on character assassination. Before people hurl insults and truly vile ad hominems, just remind yourself that Marcus lost three friends that day, and nearly lost his life a number of times that day and in the days the followed. And many of the planning and execution decisions were not his to make, so he shouldn't be shouldered with the weight of the tragic results. Did he make any bad calls during the fire fight? Possibly, but i wasnt there getting shot at from above by a numerically superior force, watching all three of my teammates lose their lives, while an entire QRF that was there to save our lives were blown out of the sky. I thought Ed Darack did an excellent job of analyzing the operation and the numerous questionable decisions made by leadership from the very start of planning, all the way to the QRF, and arguably even beyond that into the rescue and recovery efforts. I just think there's just far too much mean-spirited criticism and empty finger-pointing when it comes to people expressing their uninformed opinions on the internet.. but i guess that goes for virtually any polarizing or sensitive subject discussed publicly on the internet.
People looked at the facts of the situation…the interviews given by the people who were involved and Marcus’s own words…that’s where the character assassination came from…it came from AFTER all of that…not BEFORE…

In the combat footage you can hear Marcus Luttrell yelling to Michael, as he was making the sat phone call. "Michael, come back, Michael." "Michael, come back." And nearing the end of the footage, you can hear Axelson talking back to Luttrell, after an initial RPG blast. "What happened?" "Michael?" "Where at?" "We gotta get back" "where's michael?" In numerous interviews given, Marcus stated how he was standing up waiving his hands. How all he wanted was for Michael to come back down to him. Marcus also said Axe was still talking to him, before being separated by yet another RPG. Also, Marcus accurately described the wounds on his teammates. He said Dietz got shot through the head, as he was carrying him. In the combat footage, you can see the exit wound on Dietz's left cheek. He also said Murphy suffered a wound to the stomach, a busted face, and was coated in dust. All accurately described by Marcus. Also, Axelson was found by the locals and was buried. The GBs had to bribe them by building generators, paving roads, and bringing livestock so they would reveal the position of Axe. One of the GBs, Travis Osborn said on the team never quit podcast "he had 1 mag in his kit, and 11 rounds in the mag in his gun." @@enriquearvayo5441 RRC would have been my top pick for that mission.
There is no way to know, so we stick with Marcus' version, or at least interview some of the Tali who were on that mountain that day.
@@enriquearvayo5441 It was supposed to be a Marine unit. They were already operating in the area before and were familiar with the terrain.
I love Rangers. They're so matter of fact. No braggadocio. They join young but just seem to have a maturity about them.

@wimwak it all started at roberts Ridge operationally

The navy’s numbers SKYROCKETED after these seal documentaries and movies all came out.
They lure dumb people who want to be “hero’s” into jointing the navy thinking they have what it takes to be seals 99% of them fail miserably and end up chipping paint or scrubbing toilets on a ship in the middle of the ocean for 4 years instead.

@@Getvagazzledwell said man ..sad that he profits from his lies
Completely agree. It’s well documented he was very traumatized from it all. Makes sense
This should be interesting…

Sounds like a night mare. forgive the detail but the fast roping seems to have been an issue ..why nylon ropes ? Thought they were all cotton made, less burn...all of these guys seem very dedicated may they all rest in peace...excellent vid...
Ive read the book a few times, and of course watched the movie. Im from a military family, but didnt never join so my knowledge about things aren't very knowledgeable. What was the thing with using the SAT phone, and why is that a no no as portrayed in the movie and book?
Most are saying a missile hit the Chinook, not an RPG.
Nah. It was a pigeon
What are you suggesting by “a missile”?
Seal saying it was a SA-7 surface to air on anti hero podcast
@@Wildwest89 I heard the same thing about Extortion 17 on that podcast. Apparently people saw it cork screw before it hit. I can’t find anything else on it though.
He was on Warfighters.
Marcus lied. Axelson died.
20:43 so you all didn’t show
Up at the nick of time while the village was fighting the taliban
RPG huh. That’s not what another people said
Seal saying it was a SA-7 surface to air on anti hero podcast
Took 10 days for marcus to say anything on his teams whereabouts and probably cost Axelson his life.
If Marcus dropped his weapon and ran..... How would he be able to redeploy to iraq??? It would not happen!!
@@lewismorgan839 He’s part of the cover up of what a disaster the mission was from the get go. Go listen to Deming on The Antihero Podcast EP 66 Marcus Luttrell the Truth. The cover of Chapman’s death, Tillman cover up, reasons for invading Iraq, Bush sheltering the Saudi’s, your government military industrial complex is a corrupt lying machine and will use any means to advance their agenda.
Also, let’s all stop worship people in the military like they’re infallible gods. As a veteran I can assure you that we’re just normal flawed people and there are just as many 💩bags in the military as there are outside of it.
Anderson Cooper : So Marcus can you tell us and the American people what happened and what did you do.
Marcus Luttrel : well I just started running (Forrest gump voice)
Rangers really are the best the US Army has. They are disciplined, extremely well trained, incredibly motivated, lead by exceptional leaders, and only know one thing; how to win in combat. Awesome unit. They remind me of Marines with more money, better training, and higher standards. Rangers Lead The Way!!! Semper Fi!
So special forces and Delta are worse than the rangers?
Semper Fi? Really dude?
One of the GBs, Travis Osborn said on the team never quit podcast "he had 1 mag in his kit, and 11 rounds in the mag in his gun." There's also a portion in the combat footage where you can hear a deep Texan tone yell "I'm hit" before a suppressed gunshot.
Holy shit the amount of cope in your comment, deep Texas tone 😂.
That's clearly Murphy yelling at Marcus, I made a similar comment on the original video sounds like you took my comment and added copium to it.
@@JackDiamond21 I already argued multiple times with you on separate different accounts. It's truly impossible to argue against an idiot
@@OperationRedWingsarchive yea I know it's truly impossible to talk to you, cause it's Murphy calling Marcus the full vid is on Reddit.
At some point one of the Taliban says "look at the one running" then you hear Murphy yell "Marcus comeback"
@@JackDiamond21 I believe you need to get your ears checked. Murphy is from NY so his tone would be theoretically higher than a country man like Marcus. You can decipher who is who. Marcus said in his 60 minutes interview how all he wanted was for Murphy to make his way back down to him. How he was raising his hands, yelling for him to come back down. Murphy ignored him and continued fighting, after making his sat phone call. He was presumably shot incapacitated and yelled for Marcus. However, he couldn't reach Murphy due to the terrain and incoming fire. And no Muja said that now you're just lying bro.
@@JackDiamond21 and on top of that you can literally hear Axe talking to Marcus, before an RPG separates them. Which is also backed up by Marcus

Why is a patrol being lead by a SEAL officer ? Name any Western LRRP or Special Operations force that would have a Officer with Zero experience lead a patrol behind enemy lines?
hes the team leader and none of em really have much experience but people just cant fathhom the terrain , your not fightin anyone up hill period
@@GATOR_MCLUSKY So no NCO small unit leaders that have enough experiance to make sure they have Commo that works...sorry but no one else has those problems
@LongFatJohnston Thanks. I am former unit alum and have worked all over the GWOT and just can't understand the failed commo plan unless they just went full retard
@LongFatJohnston u dont throw people out of sof in this era they was rectuiting hard as possible. whats the incident repot say on the shooting ?
@@BryanWiedeman what was the issue with commo? i know why they had issues cuz i learned it 2 years prior
The world knows he didn’t fire a shot and ran leaving his team to die. Why he won’t just tell the truth… 🙄🤯🤡
As soon as comms were lost the mission should have been aborted. Great Story, brave men all of them. God Bless Them All.
You can’t just ‘poof’ and disappear off of a mountain.. it’s a bit of a logistical nightmare. And they had already aborted the mission before comms were lost, they were retreating as they were finding out they didn’t have good comms
You obviously didn't think your comment through did you? So they can just transport off the mountain after they realize comms are bad? Like they don't have people hunting them down. This isn't Star Trek.
Should have just stayed out of the whole thing and let the Marines execute their plan. The SEALs "planning" was so terrible that the mission should have been aborted in the planning room.
6 hours incommunicado, if only they had given the rescue order at the end of Murf's satellite call, everything would have been different now
On anti hero podcast a seal said they weren’t monitoring the comes it wasn’t that they didn’t have comes
I really don't think anyone should put Marcus down. Most people wouldn't have even been there in the first place. Let alone with only 4 people. This, in my opinion, is all the higher-ups fault. This route of mission made no sense. And considering it was all for a "lower tiered" terrorist.
No one was there if the video comes out people can talk fact is many Americans died and that sucks at the same time I understand why people are pissed Americans feel like they have been lied too hopefully we get the proof soon
“Operation red wing”. Just one wing
Some honest feedback, this episode starts as if its in the middlee of a conversation and I have no idea what's being talked about and most episodes. I try to listen to our similar, so I hardly watched this show, even though I watched all the other UA-cam channels that have similar content.
If you refuse to watch this show because you don’t like the first few seconds you’re missing out. As far as just letting legitimate special operators tell war stories, this channel is probably the best on UA-cam. Clean intros and high production costs don’t add value to what is being said.
@@dline6634 totally agree, i just feel like the format is hard to get into but im sticking with it
Hint: they're talking about operation red wings
