gurl your eyes in this video. You did a video about knee sleeves when i was looking for knee sleeves, and now im looking for a belt, and here you are to the rescue. Love ya
While I do like long videos normally (esp from sis megsquats), it’s actually quite refreshing to just be given the straight facts in a short and concise video, it can get old having to watch a 15 minute long saga when you’re just after specific information! THANKS MEG KEEP IT UP ps would love to see a 5 min Friday about your favourite variations of the big 3 and their benefits (sorry if you’ve already gone into this before!)
Just ran into you at The Arnold and, until UA-cam suggested one of your videos to me just now, I had absolutely ZERO idea that you even had a UA-cam channel, let alone one popping off like this. Holy shit. Inspiring. Needless to say, subscribed with notifications turned on! Keep up the good work!
This was very helpful, Meg! I've been training for 3 years now, all belt-less, and have been thinking about getting and using a belt. Thank you very much!
Nice vid. Thanks for the tips. I deadlift without a belt now, but used to when I was doing my max stuff at 58 yrs old. Now I'm 70 and do a few sets once a week to ten days for 5 to 8 reps. Later I will be getting more serious and using a belt. You go Meg.
I’d love a video more on bracing! The article linked was a bit technical in terms for me to understand and I think you explain everything so clearly. I’ve been watching you ever so you posted your road to 300 on reddit ☺️
Yaaay so excited for this vid!! I'm in love with that shirt & hat too! Question: What are signs in your lifts that you are ready for a belt, or should try one? Is there a certain kind of struggle to look out for? Thank you!
When you’re confident that bracing is down, and the execution of your lift looks good. If you can keep your hips and shoulders in alignment without extending or flexing your spine, then you’re in a good place to try a belt
Using a belt for the first time is what made me realize I didn't brace correctly before that. The belt saved my life, it literally teaches you to brace correctly since it gives you direct feedback by either being too tight or too loose when you brace.
Thank you thank you thank you!!! I needed all those questions answered! Glad I recently subscribed!! 🙌👏 I truly appreciate your videos being full of info and not full of time wasters like dog close ups and home tours 🙈 I don't get on UA-cam to waste time, I get on here to learn. And girl you got lots to teach me !!
As always I learned so much from your video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You were the my biggest inspiration to get stronger! Love what you stand for & your content!!
Great topic! I waited about a year after starting my first powerlifting program to ask for my inzer for my birthday. I love it, and try to make sure my accessory work is beltless. I also surprised myself after getting a rib tattoo the weight I was now able to do beltless 🤗 Could you maybe do favourite warmups for a five minute Friday? And a future video topic: pregnancy and training! I'm not expecting but I have friends who have asked questions about powerlifting and how things need to change! Maybe you have some strong strong friends who made little humans 😉
Love the explanation, belts are something ive been hesitant about becuase I wasn't quite sure what they were for and how to properly incorporate them before, thank you! I also think it was be awesome if you could do a five minute explanation on a lifting journal that you keep or have kept. How do you organize it? What platform do you use (phone, notebook, etc.)? How has it helped you with your progress? I'm trying to find a good way to keep track of my progress.
First: you look so beautiful! Everytime but in this video especially! I saw this video a while ago but I think about buying a belt so I watch it again! Thank you for this :)
This was EXTREMELY helpful for me! I'm 7 months into my powerlifting adventure and have gone beltless the entire time (my partner/trainer doesn't use one and thus i've been basically following what he does including paying close attention to my form). One time I tried to do my working set deadlifts with a belt, but felt that it was more difficult than not using one. What suggestions would you have for someone that feels uncomfortable with a belt but wants to see if their lifts can improve with a belt? I'm not sure if I will even compete within the next year, but I think this is definitely something I want to do in the future.
Awesome to see you today! Great info. Since you mentioned about questions.. Do you have any ideas on diet or training for people that have had bariatric surgeries? I want to start lifting, but I cant consume food amounts quite like a normal person.
Very helpful. I'm not a "lifter" as such but struggle to hold my form when doing reps due to a hyper flexed lower lumbar. I figured it will give me a bit of stability. Would you agree that the velcro type will suffice?
These are moments where I feel lucky to have been a choir kid. Once you're properly trained, you learn to breathe from your stomach and use your intra-abdominal muscles to support your voice so you stay stable with long notes and can push the air better to hit higher notes and get the proper angle of air to have good tone... its very abstract. When I started lifting I never had to think about bracing and just naturally did it. I can only imagine how odd it would be to adjust if you've never breathed that way before.
This was really helpful. Can you do a video on bracing or breathing techniques, for all three lifts? Not sure if you can fit it into 5 mins or not, but just a suggestion!
I bought my first belt last week because I’ve noticed that I’ve gotten a lot stronger the past few months (84kg at 55kg body weight for 5 reps hehe) and since I’m starting to lift almost twice my body weight, I’d rather protect my back. Also, very important, belts should only be used when you’re lifting around almost 2x your body weight, if not the muscles on your torso are not working properly and become weaker, cause I see people wearing belts even for their warm up sets like 🤔😅
I have a very nice custom Pioneer belt that I used 5ish times. I was always told to use a belt when lifting 80%+ of your 1 rep (I am still newish at lifting 2 years now so my 1 Reps usually are pretty inaccurate so I haven't had a chance to use it too often just yet).
I'm 5'9 at 154lbs. Hit 325 2 months into training last week after recovering from a motorcycle accident and anxiety (lost 16 lbs from not eating and weighed 138). Completely stoked especially since I haven't even gained a single lb. Hit it belt less. Have a 28-30 inch waist. Kind of a slim dude. I'm okay hitting it once raw but DEFINITELY need a belt when I start repping that out. My legs developed faster than my core and I can't seem to hold the air down in my diaphragm and keep my core tight with all that weight on my shoulders. I'm gonna need that to increase intrabdominal pressure. 325 seems to be the point where it starts to REALLY be heavy on the core or atleast for my frame. Pray for me y'all. Anxiety is still an everyday struggle for me. Despite having an urge to lift and play sports, when anxiety strikes I become paralyzed in fear and even doing the things I love becomes a challenge. Really want to challenge myself and see how far I can push my body. Aiming for a 40 inch vertical and atleast a 450lb squat by the end of the year. Let's hope I can hit that number without too much hypertrophy or weight gain. The goal is to stay around 5% body fat and not pass 165lbs.
I always wondered why people were so quick to wear belts as I've always been told that they don't actually protect your back and that you have to learn to properly brace anyway, so I've just always lifted without one. I have pondered the use of a belt on back squats, however, for the extra feedback to ensure that my core is stable, but feel fine without for deadlifts.
5 for 5 idea, Breathing tips and techniques during the S.B.D. Breathing definitely gets hard at the RPE 8-9 and sometimes I feel like I'm starting to hold my breath when I shouldn't be.
13mm pioneer natural leather lever in the house! It's 2 6.5 mm leather belts put together. No suede. It's like a board around your waist. Highly recommended
Part of this video seriously needs to play on repeat at the gym! 😂😂 I cant stand seeing guys who just use the belt because their form is shit or they wear it thinking it’ll protect their back.
Should I invest in lifting shoes first or a belt? And can you make a video on knee wraps or sleeves with ppl that have had knee injuries. #megsquats #ISDABEST!!
I love my shirt from the Arnold! Meg, Im fairly new to powerlifting, and so I’ve been going through different 12 week peaking programs shaking out the last of the beginner gains. How do I train/what program to follow when I’m not peaking? And how often do I not peak?? Thank you!
I've been working on my squats and increasing the weight over the last year. My 1 rep max is 175 and I really want to increase that, would you recommend using a belt or remaining beltless? How do I know when I'm ready to use a belt?
I have thought about it. I think we might rather do some community and consumer events for our loyal fans. Still thinking on it, and still in the process of defining what direction we want to go in that regard. Hopefully I’ll have updates soon!
Can you talk about how to break a plateau in lifting. I have been consistently training and was improving significantly on how much I was lifting and now I cant seem to go up in weight at all.
Yes! The short answer is to periodize Your Training (if you haven’t already) hard to recommend that bc I don’t know what Your Training looks like, but if you haven’t spent a few months focused in hypertrophy, then do that
Hey Meg, I've got a deadlift question. When I'm approaching my max (and lifting it), notice than I am slower lifting the barbell for the first 12in or so on my first rep than the following ones. That is until I start to fatigue. Does this mean I should work on strengthening my legs a bit more to help the lift? FYI, I weigh 64kg and the most I've lifted so far is 115kg for 5 reps. I reckon I could hit 120kg for 3 but I was too tired to lift heavier at the time (in case you were interested). I'm chasing 130kg Loving your videos and finding them really helpful, keep it up! 😀
Just came home from deadlifting at the gym (not sumo), trying to find my max. Only 80kg... Ah well, I'll get a t-shirt that says "strong strong friend - in the making". When are they available?!
We definitely need those t-shirts... Then once we're strong enough we can hold a ceremonial burning of the old t-shirt and donning of the strong strong t-shirt! It'll be a thing!! :-P
80kg IS STRONG THOUGH! Not being the strongest doesn’t mean you’re not strong! There are so many people who are far behind you, as you once were. Appreciate that!!
Hi meg ive been working out for about 6 months and seeing considerable progress in physique and also performance. Dont know if i should go into bodybuilding or powerlifting. Any tips to help me make a decision? Love the vids keep up the good worl
Workout out for 6 months is a big accomplishment! Congrats! Are you considering going into bb / pl training? Or competition? If competition, I do not recommend jumping into a bodybuilding show. If just Training, I think a program that is focused in building as much muscle as possible is best. Dial in your form with higher rep schemes, and focus on getting more muscle!
megsquats thanks fot taking the time. Im a 235 pounds standing 5'11". After working out for about 6 months i think its an important time to decide. Because in future pontential competitions weight might be a factor. Im either gonna go down to 205 if i do bb or maybe 225 if i do pl. Havent made a choice yet. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read my prev comment. Made my week :)
gurl your eyes in this video. You did a video about knee sleeves when i was looking for knee sleeves, and now im looking for a belt, and here you are to the rescue. Love ya
Keep it up Meg! I love your videos! And whenever you feel like you're in a rut again just take some time out, we'll still be here
Awesome tips and explanations! So often videos say do... or don't... and then neglect to explain why. You put it all together.
While I do like long videos normally (esp from sis megsquats), it’s actually quite refreshing to just be given the straight facts in a short and concise video, it can get old having to watch a 15 minute long saga when you’re just after specific information! Amen! I’m liking these too!
I’m loving your 5 min Friday’s. Also need that T shirt 😍
Jackie Dunne I love you
Just ran into you at The Arnold and, until UA-cam suggested one of your videos to me just now, I had absolutely ZERO idea that you even had a UA-cam channel, let alone one popping off like this. Holy shit. Inspiring. Needless to say, subscribed with notifications turned on! Keep up the good work!
Greetings from Cuba . I always watch your videos. You are an inspirational woman.
This was very helpful, Meg! I've been training for 3 years now, all belt-less, and have been thinking about getting and using a belt. Thank you very much!
Thanks :) I just bought my first belt this week after borrowing my friend's one for a high volume deadlift workout. Really saved my back
Love how concise and straight to the point this is! Great content girl 💪
Love your 5 minute Friday’s!
Nice vid. Thanks for the tips. I deadlift without a belt now, but used to when I was doing my max stuff at 58 yrs old. Now I'm 70 and do a few sets once a week to ten days for 5 to 8 reps. Later I will be getting more serious and using a belt. You go Meg.
Would LOVE a bracing video❤️❤️❤️Love these 5 minute Friday’s. Thank you, beautiful 💕💕
Please turn on the subtitles. Your videos are awesome I want to send it to somebody.
I recently came across your channel and absolutely love your videos.
I typically try to only wear a belt when i feel worse that day, sick, stiff, etc but its rare. Love your clarification!
Who knew 5 minutes could be so informational?
It can be simple! This project is helping me be far more concise with what I put out. I like it
Another great video, your 5 min Friday videos are great and to the point
Thank you!
megsquats i love watching all of your videos
Wearing a belt actually helped me get better at my bracing, but I get your point :)
thank you for not click baiting
I’ve done it before, but I truly try not to lol. This UA-cam life is hard to keep up with
Thank you! I started a powerlifting program and in my head I kept wondering when/if to get a belt ❤️
Thanks Meg! Great video! And I loved the improvised background hahahaha
I have been doing some research on belts, this has been extremely helpful.
I’d love a video more on bracing! The article linked was a bit technical in terms for me to understand and I think you explain everything so clearly. I’ve been watching you ever so you posted your road to 300 on reddit ☺️
Yes talk about breathing during deadlifts. I get chest/rib pain when I lift and now realize it's from my breathing.
Yaaay so excited for this vid!! I'm in love with that shirt & hat too!
Question: What are signs in your lifts that you are ready for a belt, or should try one? Is there a certain kind of struggle to look out for? Thank you!

Great video. I can't wait to see your video on bracing too.
I like working out without a belt cuz I’m poor 🤠
Haha fair point. It can get pricey
@demi m jones why not just svae your money and buy a good belt?
Mine was $20 lol you don’t need a super expensive one :)
100% agree. Dope content, Meg. Keep it up!
Meg you always look so awesome in all your UA-cam videos you kickass girl
As always I learned so much from your video! Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You were the my biggest inspiration to get stronger! Love what you stand for & your content!!
Thanks for all of your short 5 minute explanations... I have shit to do! Can't wait to meet you at GRRRL live in April in Vegas !!
Great video. Very well explained.
Cannot wait for the new gear!!🤗
Great topic! I waited about a year after starting my first powerlifting program to ask for my inzer for my birthday. I love it, and try to make sure my accessory work is beltless. I also surprised myself after getting a rib tattoo the weight I was now able to do beltless 🤗

Great advice, Meg! My husband advises me to go without a belt in my programming for as long as possible (bracing etc).
Good morning Meg! Love your vids!

Pleaseee do a video about learning to brace properly!!
First: you look so beautiful! Everytime but in this video especially!
I saw this video a while ago but I think about buying a belt so I watch it again! Thank you for this :)
You're the best ♥️ could you make a video (if you haven't yet) on knee wraps/sleeves and elbow sleeves?
I’ve got a video on sleeves!
Good shit meg back to basics 💪🏋👊
This was EXTREMELY helpful for me! Is it weird i hit “like” before the video even starts? 😂 i know ill like it...😍😍😍😘💋
That means you are a true strong strong friend! I appreciate it, it really does help the channel
You brought back the map! Cool I thought for sure you got rid of it.
Yaaassssss, thank you Meg :D You're the best!
Awesome to see you today! Great info.
Since you mentioned about questions..
Do you have any ideas on diet or training for people that have had bariatric surgeries? I want to start lifting, but I cant consume food amounts quite like a normal person.
I would love for you to do a video about wrist straps. I can not seem to get the hang of mine and feel like a fool trying to use them
This one is ez! I got you!
Very helpful. I'm not a "lifter" as such but struggle to hold my form when doing reps due to a hyper flexed lower lumbar. I figured it will give me a bit of stability. Would you agree that the velcro type will suffice?
I like your advice
I appreciate that!

More information on this channel than every male powerlifter on UA-cam, srs.
This was really helpful. Can you do a video on bracing or breathing techniques, for all three lifts? Not sure if you can fit it into 5 mins or not, but just a suggestion!
whoot she's back!
Needed a lil break 😊
We all need one! :) I hope today is better

It's pretty scary when she replies lol. She's actually real.
IMMMM HERRRRRREEEEEEE
I love the under 5 minutes thing.
IM HAPPY YOU LIKE IT!
Another great vid, Meg! Any thoughts on BCAAs for Diabetics?
I cannot wait for the shirts to be ready! And I cannot stop playing granny 😂😂😂
Omg I’m praying for you. That damn game bout made me Lee my pants
Nice video! When will you show your footage from the Arnold Classic?
You read my mind!
Prong belts are super hard to get on when you first buy one. You need a helper to get it on. I love the lever.
I'm 5'9 at 154lbs. Hit 325 2 months into training last week after recovering from a motorcycle accident and anxiety (lost 16 lbs from not eating and weighed 138). Should I invest in lifting shoes first or a belt? And can you make a video on knee wraps or sleeves with ppl that have had knee injuries. #megsquats #ISDABEST!!
You’re the best!!!
You never made a video on Bracing do plan on doing it one day
Please do a video on how you brace! I think I’m bracing but I always get lower back pain after I deadlift
Can you do a video on skin care for lifters? I feel like some of us struggle with this... thank you!
Do you have any videos where u teach how to proper squat and deadlift ? Btw i think you awesome
I NEED!!! that t shirt ! lol have you thought about eventually taking in sponsorships for your clothing line? asking for a friend :) lol
I have thought about it. I think we might rather do some community and consumer events for our loyal fans. Still thinking on it, and still in the process of defining what direction we want to go in that regard. Hopefully I’ll have updates soon!
Awesome ! Thanks for the response Meg!
Good video 🏋️♀️ stay strong and beautiful 🏋️♀️
@megsquats why double prong? Have you tried single prong? I got the single prong Inzer belt myself.
Do you recommend regular cardio while in a strength building phase? If so, how much?
Thank u queen.
Thank u for this thank y queen 👸🏼
Should I get a 10mm belt for my first USAPL meet or 13mm?

What brand of belt do you recommend?
😂 those thumbnails. you're like the julia luis dreyfuss of youtube fitness with your facial expressions.
What is your opinion on the buckle belts verses the lever belts? Is one better than the other for powerlifting?
They are the same. I bloat hard, so like the flexibility of the prong
Meg I know this is for belts but what type of knee wraps do you recommend
what size belt do you wear? my waist is around 30 inches but i feel like if i want to grow i should get a medium. what do you think?
