i was there and it was an absolute knockout. rumor was that Sting might appear, it wasn't a big deal for me, we were there for Bowie's songs played by his mates. but we had no idea that we would hear Blackstar, and it was performed so appropriately. i shed tears every time i reflect on it.
Never really been a sting fan. Always felt I could take him or leave him but this is quite beautiful. A brave choice of song - I can imagine it’s a bugger to try and play live but it really works and I’m so glad to have heard it . Thanks sting !
Jeremy Shatan He and Bowie were apparently really good friends for years, along with Clapton, Phil Collins, and Elton John. My God what an awesome super group that would have been!
And he picked a difficult one - difficult to perform live, no existing live adaption by Bowie and none of the classics the audience could clap along to.
Kinda. The idea is that person musician took his place when he died (which is why he has a song called Lazarus on the album, he’ll be born again like a black star)
An absolutely fantastic interpretation Sting! Amazing. David would be SO HAPPY with this. I am so grateful someone has finally made this piece by Bowie alive for me. I have struggled with it for so long, not relating to his last offering, feeling lost.
This is an excellent version of the song. Very close to the original and the drums along with the backing vocals here give the song more weight. Sting did a wonderful job.
Really enunciates the beauty of this astonishing epic, last Bowie composition... Bowie went off the radar of so many in the latter years in spite of 3, 4 great albums... Blackstar came with a mystical wallop of a punch... genius never dies, takes our breath away... the middle part of this composition is the summation of a musical genius going high up & out into another orbit
This is amazing. Just to point out one cool little detail - the entire first half (or heavy third) of the song, Sting is working his right thumb at a pace that would give most people debilitating cramps within 60 seconds. Do not underestimate the power of a punk rock bassist.
He improved his guitar playing studying with Paco De Lucia a great spanish guitarist who uses his thumb like that on an acoustic guitar. You can find some footage of him live on YT.
I can only do agree with all of those who have tears in their eyes hearing this version of "Black Star"-live.Thank you,Mr. Sting! You were great! You and all the musicians on the stage!! I see DB's Eyes At The Center Of It All!! R.I.P. STAR MAN⭐!
oh my God this sends shivers down my spine... Sting was 1000% supported by Bowies Spirit🕯☆🙏and then he was supported by David Bowies great Band. To me it is still a bitter pill that David Bowie had to go so early. He was so full of life and Creativity..You can hear on the black star album how his fighting that there was no chance for him to turn this tragedy. Somehow i believe that his spirits lives on and searching for a new incanation.. I can feel his presence everytime when i put on an album.. However. Nothing has changed... Everything has changed Cause something happened on the day he died... Bon voyage Major Tom🙏
Wow!!! Done so well! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 She loves me is another favorite from Bowies last compositions. Pure unadulterated genius. Very much missed. Rip David Bowie. 🙏🏻
I've only just found this, I never thought anyone would dare cover this song, but this is a great version of what is a very complex piece and was probably never intended to be done live.
Grew up big fan of The Police at school and Sting films, and his solo work and also Bowie fan since school, also watched all his films which all came out each stages of my life growing up and followed David Bowie until his untimely death - feel so lucky to have seen both these artists live. This is an incredible tribute to Bowie ..bravo to Sting.
Great job coming, David, so well. It is not an easy song, but they did it so well. The guitar and Stings vocals are flawless never thought I'd hear this dong covered. It could only be done so well by someone as professional as Sting. The background vocals are done so well. The drums, the vibe, all of it is flawless. Thanks so much. I loved hearing him pay tribute and his friend so brilliantly. It gives me chills. RIP Bowie.❤

Played almost like flamenco, gorgeous ❤
This is the closest thing we will get to something we will never be able to hear, which is David's live version of Blackstar. Props to Sting
yes, one of the greatest musicians singing one of the greatest songs ever written. You can feel David's hands on it.
These are really 2 very nice sentences! And what did you said, that's right,Marty Dixon!!
Please listen to this ua-cam.com/video/MmAlBQKyxfM/v-deo.html
Please search the rendition by Ana Calvi and Amanda Palmer. That's the real deal.
A Version can be different auch as new Work. This is a Closer Interpretation. O like
I am impressed with this version of David's song...usually I loathe when other people attempt his music....but I admit, Sting did it justice....
MusicFreak Smith listen to Midge Ure's cover of The Man Who Sold The World.

@@CSM100MK2Oh snap
This makes me realize how beautiful the actual melody of this song is when bare bones like this. Gorgeous masterpiece by Bowie.
Bowie, producer, and musicians
And engineers
Just thought the same.
Anyone see this and immediately feel a bit less alone in the world. Such a beautiful tribute. x
Only very very very few could have covered this masterpiece, and Sting was among them. Great cover!
Wow these backing vocals are incredible
One on the right in white t-shirt is Stingalingadingdong's son, Joe Sumner.
il existe des artistes majeurs , en l' occurrence David Bowie et des artistes mineurs . Pauvre Sting, tout ce qu'il touche devient de la merde.
How did I manage to miss this until now? Absolutely brilliant. Thank you Sting and the rest of the band/orchestra for this wonderful tribute
Had no idea Sting had done this. Very cool. Respectful, and well done.
I am a big Sting and Bowie fan. Beautiful tribute to his friend.
I cannot believe someone covered this. Kudos Sting!!
Check this : Anna Calvi and Amanda Palmer - Blackstar (Live at BBC Proms)
Im crying. BEAUTIFUL, thank you Sting for doing this for our Star Man.
❤
Very faithful cover. Thank god it's not yet another "Starman" cover. I haven't seen anyone attempt to cover this song before.
My respect to this touching, intimate, authentic and polite tribute to DB.
Never really been a sting fan. Always felt I could take him or leave him but this is quite beautiful. A brave choice of song - I can imagine it’s a bugger to try and play live but it really works and I’m so glad to have heard it . Thanks sting !
I still can't listen to this album. It was such sad time in my life when Bowie died .
He has the perfect vocal range (and balls) to perform this song live even reading the lyrics.
Sting really did this justice. Very ambitious. And very respectful.
Gotta hand it to Sting, who I don't much care for: this was a respectful, committed performance of a difficult song. Kudos!
Jeremy Shatan He and Bowie were apparently really good friends for years, along with Clapton, Phil Collins, and Elton John. My God what an awesome super group that would have been!
He did a great job with this song!

He once was an arrogant Twit
As he would readily Admit
Who had an Epiphany
Whilst dabbling with Entheogens
And now he’s a regular Fella
Sting covering Bowie? Ultra-cool. Sting just moved WAY up on my list.
"Something happened on the day he died ..." only NOW I understand how Bowie must have intended this song to be played by someone else.
Woah! 🤯 It was meant to be sung by another artist, David's mind...
الحكم الله
Kinda. The idea is that person musician took his place when he died (which is why he has a song called Lazarus on the album, he’ll be born again like a black star)
Exactly! I got it. Sting does a beautiful rendition.
Sting got it right!

amen to that

This was my same reaction. “How is this strumming sound being made, his hand isn’t moving?!” Then I realized. Stunning.
He improved his guitar playing studying with Paco De Lucia a great spanish guitarist who uses his thumb like that on an acoustic guitar. You can find some footage of him live on YT.

What a great way to honor a hero.
Beautiful. Sting is still in the loop.

I cried. Incredible. Only sting could do it justice. I feel Bowie looking over. Definite approval.
Great job Sting! David would approve 💪 🖤
This is one of my all time favorite songs. Sting is my all time favorite vocalist. I would kill to hear an HD version of this performance :(
Beautiful. This brought tears to my eyes. Thanks for posting.
Hello Sting, a beauty…thank you all , respect ,love Sylvia
Sting needs to start making music again in his own style, just like David did right up to the very end.
To do this! You loved and honoured him.
It's really just a man doing a cover song.
Thank you Sting! I'm not sure LA is the right audience, though. I'd love to see the reaction in New Orleans.
Sting is our best Loss Prevention Officer, preserving what’s good in medieval culture.
Props to the drummer here! Love this beat.
I'm not a big Sting fan, but this was great.
Thanks for posting this Tyler. I had no idea it existed.
only Sting can cover this. A tribute of respect for David Bowie Rest in Peace
I've only just found this, I never thought anyone would dare cover this song, but this is a great version of what is a very complex piece and was probably never intended to be done live.
Excellent performance of this beast known as "Blackstar"!
Wow. Bowie's Band and Sumner vocals. Excellent tribute Sting.
Thank you Sting, this is amazing! Very moving...
Awesome on so many levels.
I think Sting singing David Bowie's Blackstar is the best candidate to pay tribute to The Starman.
Grew up big fan of The Police at school and Sting films, and his solo work and also Bowie fan since school, also watched all his films which all came out each stages of my life growing up and followed David Bowie until his untimely death - feel so lucky to have seen both these artists live. Beautiful performance Sting! Thank you 🙏.

Well done sting
What a great appreciation
Mr. Sting, a legendary tribute.
Well done to Sting for pulling it off. He did a good job of standing in for Bowie
A superb version of Bowie's chilling and brilliant blackstar

Damnit, Sting
Why you gotta gimme a late birthday gift
This was an amazing rendition and certainly one that would have made David proud
Sting a respect to the almighty bowie. The legend.!!.
Excellent performance. Never realised how close to Bowie's range Sting's was.
This is such a beautiful song, sting smashes it here
Amazing and moving

That was fucking epic
Lovely trubite to Bowie ❤
Very well done. David most definitely, and most defiantly, will live forever through his amassed works.
Woah! I never knew this 🖤🪐🎶
Thank you very much for sharing this, with your description. I was thinking that must have been the original drummer from the album's track.
An amazing and moving tribute...
Excellent. This song is a great fit for Sting. The first part comes pretty close to some things in the Soul Cages album
ekathe85 Great point! Soul Cages had a very similar tone to Blackstar, with the sea as the backdrop instead of the sea.
Thank you so much I did not know sting dd Blackstar how beautiful , what a piece of work ! Miss you Bowie ' thanks for my dream 🌚
Send this message to major tom in a bottle ......floating in space
David would be proud
The flamenco-like guitars is quite good. The last joke from David, Blackstar is a difficult song to cover.
shivers down my spine and tears of joy and sadness filling my eyes.
Well Done Sting Surprised the hell outta me.
this is amazing!
Incredible.
3:58 majestuoso!
Wow Sting! Deep cut.
Extraordinary!
GRANDE omaggio da un GRANDE artista a un GRANDE artista!
