I hate it when people use the word "toxic" incorrectly, and you just did it. This is not toxic, it's harmless teasing among people who know each other the best.

But if it was ever suitable to describe the dynamic amongst three family members, I'd say this is the one! 🤷🏻♀️ I didn't write "abusive" since that's not the case here, but toxic is not that far-fetched with regard to this family's spiteful behaviour towards each-other. I don't know whether you have seen the whole show (season 1-8) and how many of these Harper family scenarios you remember, but the way Evelyn has treated her sons eversince they were little, up to interactions like this restaurant dialogue goes way beyond "harmless family banter." ... because none of them is exaggerating or ironic. Each of them, especially the character of Evelyn Harper, means every word. Regardless of those semantics, I'm sure difficult people like Evy actually love their kids, yet they're often unable to express that love and/or not very intuitive, not very self-critical, too self-involved and perhaps unsuitable for parenthood in the first place.
