Multibeam echosounder simulation

This is a screencapture movie of an interactive simulation showing how a multibeam echo sounder works. The scene shows 21 red balls aligned along the base of a yellow come which its apex at the hull of the ship where the transducer would lie. Each small increases in size from the centre ball to show the increased footprint of each beam, the further from the ship. The survey is triggered by the Survey button which shows a string of red balls all moving at the same speed. Each ball represents approximately 10 beams or a swath width of 2 degrees. The outerbeams have longer to travel and therefore they arrive at the receiver later than the inner beams.
