Metropolitano Stadium, currently known as Cívitas Metropolitano for sponsorship reasons, is a stadium in Madrid, Spain. It has been the home stadium of Atlético Madrid since 2017. It is located in the Rosas neighbourhood, in the San Blas-Canillejas district. The stadium was built as part of Madrid's unsuccessful bid to host the 1997 World Athletics Championships, and was opened on 6 September 1994. It was closed in 2004 due to the city's unsuccessful bid for the 2016 Olympics and in 2013 it passed into the possession of Atlético Madrid. The stadium was renovated and the new facility was reopened to the public on 16 September 2017, when Atlético Madrid faced Málaga in La Liga. The stadium had a capacity of 20,000 spectators upon its closure and re-opened with a seating capacity of 68,456 after renovation.

This stadium is a wonderful adornment for the city of Madrid! It's the most luxury stadium which i've ever seen!!
It is in the middle of nowhere so, as in Madrid use to say: "neither adornment nor young hens soaked in vinegar".
The new Bernabéu is better than this. It's so deserted from the rest of the city.

I don't know if it's true, but I've heard that at the CIO congress in 2005 some members mistakenly voted for London instead of Madrid. This resulted the spanish capital eliminated. Otherwise, it could have went to the final ballot with Paris, in wich he was favourite.
So the 2012 Olympics should have been awarded to Madrid and the stadium could have become the centrepiece of the games.
Wich could have been better, for me, because Madrid never hosted the games (London and Paris two each already...)
Madrid got lucky that they didn't host the 2020 games. I think they lost against Tokyo in the final bid.
Probably the worst Olympic Games ever and only a super developed country like Japan can go through a pandemic and still organize the games.

One of the best football stadiums in Europe now
It’s a great modern looking stadium but I don’t know…..I always kinda preferred the old one. It was different and had its own character. As gorgeous as the new one is, it’s not very different or individualistic at all (at least on the inside) it just looks the same as most other modern football stadiums across the world.
