    I actually live in Santa Barbara it’s really hard to actually see a train and this took time

    My dad used to work the Santa Barbara route when he was working for the SP back in the 60s and 70s. used to see the SP engines pull the Amtrak passenger cars in the early 70s until Amtrak finally broke down and bought some dedicated engines to pull there cars.

    Another great vid. Is it me or does the P42DC look like a Tolian from Star Trek. 507 sure looked good for her age.

      zarniwoop42 Thank you ! 507 is personally my favorite B32-8WH. It’s actually the locomotive in my channel cover photo. I was pretty happy to catch it again to say the least ! :)

    I got on that northbound Starlight at Klamath Falls (and got to Seattle 4 hours late!) I wonder why they have the two horizon coaches in front.

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  6 років тому +2

      Max Buskirk Hmm, interesting. Amtrak 14 was actually already running 20 minutes late into Santa Barbara, but it is very intriguing to hear it was 4 hours behind schedule by the time it reached Klamath Falls. The horizon cars are part of an equipment reposition, likely to and from Los Angeles for routine maintenance.

      BrentNguyen46 It got into Klamath Falls about 50 mins late, but it had to wait until 11am to leave because of construction (said to be a tie replacement project by UP) and it just got later as it went north. On the good side, it was fun eating lunch as we descended down through the Cascades Mtns to Eugene. There was a pretty steep drop on one side for a good 10-20 mins of the ride.

    I would love see Amtrak paint a P42 into the surf liner scheme

    • @average_joe8905
      @average_joe8905 6 років тому +4

      That would be pretty cool. Unfortunately, due to the SC-44 replacement it is quite unlikely. However, the SC-44 that has been painted into Surfliner colors does look pretty nice.

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  6 років тому +2

      Jmream2 Jmream Yes, that would certainly be nice to see. Personally, I think that would be a better trade off than the SC-44, haha.

    Exactly why are p42's taking over the f59phi?

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  6 років тому

      Metrolink4824 Yeah man, I was actually thinking the same thing, haha. I would like to assume that it is a temporary holdover while the F59PHIs are being sent over to Metra until all the SC-44s enter revenue service on the Surfline.

    • @jaredgoffenthusiast_
      @jaredgoffenthusiast_ 6 років тому

      Its a shame the the f59s looked better anyway

    Was Union Pacific trying to copy BNSF 's Shrimpy Day go Manifest

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  6 років тому +1

      Parker McCormack Not necessarily. Compared to BNSF and the rail traffic to and from San Diego, the UP freights running on the Coast Line are either through freights to/from Northern California or solely local trains serving central coast industries; whereas BNSF runs bigger daily freight trains serving major customers based out of San Diego.

      There is Guadalupe local from Guadalupe, CA to Van Nuys, CA every week day

    • @BrentNguyen46
      @BrentNguyen46  6 років тому +1

      CaliRAIL Are you certain it is every weekday ? The LOF66 / LOF67 runs on a Tuesday/Friday and Monday/Thursday schedule. I do not believe it is a daily weekday train.

    • @CaliRail
      @CaliRail 6 років тому +1

      BrentNguyen46 I have seen locals on weekdays on Friday, Wednesday, Monday its Guadalupe to van nuys. Tuesday and Thursday it’s a one back to Guadalupe. I live in SB and sometimes you will see an auto rack. I don’t know much about those. In general I don’t know much about locals I have just seen them on those days
