A long time ago I learned this wasnt a love song but a letter written to his past self when he was a kid. Now that I'm older and struggle to chase my dreams, I'm glad this song exists
Hey I’m 32 too. Nice. I first heard Interpol in a skating video (not skateboarding but aggressive rollerblading cause I was way cool) when I was 13 in 2003. That same video had songs from the first Yeah Yeah Yeahs ep (I don’t even think Fever to Tell was even out yet) and the first Modest Mouse ep. Saying that video had a huge influence on me is an understatement
At 25 years, I’m really digging this band more and more. I almost got a chance to see then at The Stone Pony this summer, which might have solidified my appreciation for them.
@The baby he tried to teach us lessons on everything. Honestly idk what the lesson was on these songs were seeing as it was a while ago. But I always loved the songs.
I have been listening this song for 20 years and I can play it 10 times in a row 20 years later and the song still fires me up as it did back when. The instruments here are truly astounding.
a guy i had a massive crush on recommended me this album when we were both 16. im 22 now and interpol is one of my favourite bands ever, him and i don’t talk anymore but ill forever be thankful
This encapsulates a simple and profound philosophy of life to always hold on to - everything will be alright. No matter how bad, things always really do seem to work out, amazingly. Seemingly catastrophic jobs, relationships, wars, leadership, personal loss and angish, somehow they pass and we heal enough to move on and continue to exist.
Renacer.
Got to see Interpol play Turn On The Bright Lights which is one of my favorite albums of all time in its entirety and I still can't believe I got to experience it
This is the song that got me into Interpol. I discovered it during one of the darkest periods of my life. The nostalgia I get while listening to it is honestly heartbreaking but beautiful, and I love this song.
the comment is worthwhile - especially when its true - amazing song and amazing band. I have never tired of listening to Interpol or going to see them - Hopelessly devoted interpol fan here.
I love the line "She can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad". I had the line explained as though someone's reading a storybook and they're the evil stepmother type vibe, and they're so obsessed with the finality of the situation and the belief of it's inevitability. It's a great exoneration for the "reader" to not try. "I can read, I'm bad". It's hard to fix something you messed up, so just pretend you're just "oh so bad" and give up, it's easier. The line "You go stabbing yourself in the neck" lends to this. She's the one doing the actions hurting herself and others. Predestination is dumb and we can all work on ourselves for the better. Believe in you. ✌
LYRICS I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips We can cap the old times make playing only logical harm We can cap the old lines clay-making that nothing else will change But she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad Oh, she's bad It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never seek this face again You'll go stabbing yourself in the neck And we can find new ways of living make playing only logical harm And we can top the old times, clay-making that nothing else will change But she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad She can read, she can read, she can read Oh, she's bad It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again You go stabbing yourself in the neck But it's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again And you go stabbing yourself in the neck It's in the way that she pulls it It's in the things that she puts in my head Her stories are boring and stuff She's always calling my bluff She puts the, she puts the weights into my little heart And she gets in my room and she takes it apart She puts the weights into my little heart I said she puts the weights into my little heart She packs it away She packs it away She packs it away She packs it away She packs it away She packs it away She packs it away It's in the way that she walks Her heaven is never enough She puts the weights in my heart She puts, oh she puts the weights into my little heart
Obstacle 1 hits my soul so hard everytime I listen to it. Doesn´t matter if i had listened to it 50 times in a single day, it feels like the first time always
Has anyone been listening to this song for over 15 years and that “but it’s different now that I’m poor and aging” line just feels more visceral than ever?
This clip.. the music, the guitar guy moves, the singer, the girl dancing (she is also the video director).... The All band Style... For me, everything is so perfect. I have some kind of obssesion with this song particularly.
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video or listened to this song on UA-cam or with headphones on with my phone, but I love or so much every damn time.

@@solidifiedmilk571 in all honesty, Sonic Youth was like 15 minutes late to their set and performed pretty poorly, Interpol was killing it on main stage while we sat and waited for a sub-par Sonic Youth set.

I am so in for that !!!! rest my chemistry while I go down
Sending love brother

The bass in this song brings me to tears
Bass in combination with the drums during the verses is just from a different planet lol.
I'm 61 and this band reminds me of the highest point of MTV days, I am flipping impressed!!! 🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊
It's hard to describe what this album does to the ear and the soul....The guitar sound and the outros are pristine.
Yes, indeed. That's really accurate dude.
By the way, sorry in advance if we seem like spamming. We just wanted to tell you about our music channel. We are Surftons, a post-punk indie band. If you don't mind, please check our latest tracks on our youtube channel. Thank you in advance for your kindness. Have a nice day. ❤️
Interpol's masterpiece, everything in this song is perfect. That bass is fucking gold.
Just about the perfect song.
The bass on the entire album is fucking gold!
I'd say Interpol's masterpiece is PDA
The New is their masterpiece
Glazed turn on the bright lights is their masterpiece
I wish I could leave my home, have a couple of beers with friends and see these guys play some live music.....one can hope
I did may 5 2019
I did, 9/28/18, ATX
YES tired of loud pop
One of my favorite songs, ever. What a great sound. The way that they layer their guitars. It's unique.
Discovered this song playing guitar hero a Day ago, 44 years old, 2021 and this is one of the best feelings... something old, but New to you.. Sweet
Exacly my feeling towards this song. I'm 16 and discovered it a month back. Don't k ow many people with my taste.
Their entire catalogue is incredible, Idk why they aren't better known.
Their newest album is rlly good too
yes we will always have good memories and good memories with this game
@yoda I'll give it a try ty 👌
I cant believe how much this track grooves like god damn that bass and drums kill it so hard
Agreed
In November of this year, this song became 20 years old. Still an amazing song, by an amazing band.
A long time ago I learned this wasnt a love song but a letter written to his past self when he was a kid. Now that I'm older and struggle to chase my dreams, I'm glad this song exists
i like how carlos is just like really into the song and is vibing hard af
That would be me too lol this song is such a banger and he knows it
"But it's different now I'm poor and aging " I've heard this song 15 years ago first time I was 17 time goes by
0- listen to this song Time by The Impures, you will like it ;)
Same feeling dude
17 right now just getting into Bright Lights
Hey I’m 32 too. Nice. I first heard Interpol in a skating video (not skateboarding but aggressive rollerblading cause I was way cool) when I was 13 in 2003. That same video had songs from the first Yeah Yeah Yeahs ep (I don’t even think Fever to Tell was even out yet) and the first Modest Mouse ep. Saying that video had a huge influence on me is an understatement
9gag moment...
At 25 years, I’m really digging this band more and more. I almost got a chance to see then at The Stone Pony this summer, which might have solidified my appreciation for them.
I found this song on an MTV show at 3:45 in the morning, thank you me from the past for staying up late trying to discover new songs
This has to be one of the finest rock songs ever. Guitar, bass, drums, vocals all can be heard distinctly easily and are exceptional.
I had a 5th grade teacher show us 2 songs from this band. 23 years old now and still jamming them.
@texasman evil and slow hands
@@joelluna5801 Dang your 5th grade teacher was cool
I was just going to say. I only really show people music if I really really love it. You're teacher must have LOVED these guys
My absolute favorite indie band. I bought a few of their albums back in the day. I have all of their work on my indie playlist on Tidal.
a guy i had a massive crush on recommended me this album when we were both 16. im 22 now and interpol is one of my favourite bands ever, him and i don’t talk anymore but ill forever be thankful
One of my fave Interpol songs. It never gets old!
When he says "Again", just that word, how it's sung, it gives me chills
One of the most important bands in my life for the last 18 years. 🎤🎸🥁🎹🍏🕺🥰
HIGH QUALITY
nope.. Chuck Testa.
Lack Zewand finally right?
Is not thaaaaaat bad

Gotta be one of my favourite Interpol offerings
Turn on the bright lights was and is still a gem
I have nothing worthwhile to comment other than I’m a metalhead and this is one of the greatest songs and bands I’ll ever hear in my life
the comment is worthwhile - especially when its true - amazing song and amazing band. I have never tired of listening to Interpol or going to see them - Hopelessly devoted interpol fan here.
Same here bro
Same... Metal head & I dig this track.

Much love for Interpol! This is my favourite band.
Does it bother anyone else that they cut out the “her stories are boring” part of the song? Like why’d they do that?
Its a single, they cut it for tv and radio.
Angie Lazer That makes sense, haha.
AlexForSale That’s going to bother me now that you’ve pointed it out.
Feminists got triggered by it.
Harvey Weinstein Ejaculated On Me Love your handle and the comment.
Cool story bro
the first time I heard this song I had literal tears and it was such a surreal experience
LYRICS
I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips
We can cap the old times make playing only logical harm
We can cap the old lines clay-making that nothing else will change
But she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad
Oh, she's bad
It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never seek this face again
You'll go stabbing yourself in the neck
And we can find new ways of living make playing only logical harm
And we can top the old times, clay-making that nothing else will change
But she can read, she can read, she can read, she can read, she's bad
She can read, she can read, she can read
Oh, she's bad
It's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again
You go stabbing yourself in the neck
But it's different now that I'm poor and aging, I'll never see this place again
And you go stabbing yourself in the neck
It's in the way that she pulls it
It's in the things that she puts in my head
Her stories are boring and stuff
She's always calling my bluff
She puts the, she puts the weights into my little heart
And she gets in my room and she takes it apart
She puts the weights into my little heart
I said she puts the weights into my little heart
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
She packs it away
It's in the way that she walks
Her heaven is never enough
She puts the weights in my heart
She puts, oh she puts the weights into my little heart
I swear this guitar intro riff is one of the most characteristic sounds ever to listen
“And we can find new ways of living..” still remains in my soul and this whole experience of a song and beat
Obstacle 1 hits my soul so hard everytime I listen to it. Doesn´t matter if i had listened to it 50 times in a single day, it feels like the first time always
This is one of the most emotional and perfect songs ever to me
Has anyone been listening to this song for over 15 years and that “but it’s different now that I’m poor and aging” line just feels more visceral than ever?
Interpol...In The Zócalo of México City ..20 of April and The concert is totally FREE🎉

I can't tell you how many times I've watched this video or listened to this song on UA-cam or with headphones on with my phone, but I love or so much every damn time.
Still I can't get over the fact how underrated this band is...but at least for me They once ruled The World ...wish You nothing but best my Interpol
The rhythm and the drums are magic. I've listened to music for decades and nothing has sounded quite like 0:28 . It is just amazing.

I feel like this is the type of music I would’ve found boring only a few years ago, but now there’s something just so damn magical about it! Glad I found out about this band now and not back then :)
I was 16 when I discovered this song!! Damn, times flies so fast.
I'm 25 now.

I heard this song for the first time at Coachella 2001. Me and my buddy stopped to watch and were like "holy f these guys are dope". The rest of the crew wanted to go see Sonic Youth on the other stage, we went with them. Mega regret LOL
What does "dope" mean?
that isnt fair to put interpol and sonic youth on at the same time- i dont think could ever decide!
@@jimmycrackkorn1596 "dope" = "cool" or "good"
@@solidifiedmilk571 in all honesty, Sonic Youth was like 15 minutes late to their set and performed pretty poorly, Interpol was killing it on main stage while we sat and waited for a sub-par Sonic Youth set.

To this day "I wish I could eat the salt off of your lost faded lips' is the most beautiful lyric I have ever heard. It has depth.
When I learned Paul is a poet their music made even more sense, yanno? So much beauty.
Sure does, it’s about a plus sized model that committed suicide by stabbing her self.

Instant goose bumps. Every time.
23 years and i still love these guys. they sounded great in the empty airplane hanger where I worked assembling duck calls for the dutch east viet cong gaming company. Just wrecked my scooter. Thanks

Why were they deleted?
they weren't available in some countries
So much emotions, i nearly cry each time i listen to this song!
Looking back when this group was coming up along with the strokes, I was a teenager listening to these NYC groups and exploring other groups from the past. As you get older and look back at experiencing all this music, all your left with is the memory of the feeling of how much it radiated and felt hearing certain passages you enjoyed the most.. Great bass playing.
