Thanks for posting this video. It reminded me of my trips on the Blue Star ferry 20 years ago. AND the organised chaos of the Greek system of unloading/loading at the ports.
No matter weather or how many people and cars are gonna be loaded or unloaded, the Captain and the crew always know what's happening! Everything works like a swiss clock behind the scenes! That's we calling "Ελληνική Ναυτοσύνη" ;)
I traveled in the Cyclades with my family a few years back and took ferries from island to island and enjoyed it a great deal. Getting there was half the fun. The fast ferries were not nearly as enjoyable, because you see very little from the ship, but many people preferred those in order to get to the next island as quickly as possible. The process of embarking and embarking at each island is a fascinating process, including watching people soliciting customers for their accommodations.
There are no tides involved. Makes a huge difference. Where I live sea level can vary 7 metres, and there are places with bigger tides. At least we separate vehicles from pedestrians!
Civilian deaths? Ferry accidents are really rare actually, I can't think of a figure but this year the only ferry accident was in February I think and it was a fire on board an Italy to Greece route that killed a few people. I haven't heard of any other accidents since.
Paros looks like a nice holiday destination but disembarking from ferry looks like pandemonium for foot passengers and vehicle drivers alike from northern ireland
@@hp2084 : Your comment doesn’t make any sense. The ship was quite some distance from the docking point. Too far to be opening the ramp doors safely, regardless of the sea conditions. That practice, intended to speed up the process is dangerous and has caused several ferries to sink due to water ingress.
@@Vinnie101a my comment makes sense because in that calm sea there is no way of water to come so high as to enter the stern. Though, i agree its bad practice because sometimes, they might even try in bad weather.
@@hp2084 : Ok. I’ll go along with you. I just prefer all doors closed until it’s necessary to open. Ferry operators , like trucking companies, tend to push the envelope to save time and speed up turnover times.

Ha, lovely memories! Used the Blue Star 2x on my travels to and from Rhodes. Once with a dog (in a large cabin, like a ballroom) and once in a small cabin. Nice crew (recognised some of them on the second trip). Would travel again!
Yeah. The same. I always hear that Seajet is always late. Even hours. Blue Star however, at least in 12-14 journeys I had with them were always on time. Once they even managed to reduce almost all delay caused by rough sea. Debatable how safe it was, but they promised that will do their best to reduce the delay, considering that the ferry was supposed to arrive in Piraeus after midnight ....
It is an organized chaos. People are stupid, I've seen clueless people looking in other direction while going directly to a truck which was reversing to the ferry to take a trailer. But the personnel was aware, yell at them or even pushing them if they continued with their stupidity.

Indeed. I'm also fascinated by their organized chaos. But it works every time. Or I'm very lucky :)

In United States we spend hundred of millions on fancy piers/terminals with expensive shops and sky bridges. . In Greece they just laid some concrete.

@@wayneyd2 there is a truck in the other island that will unload the trailer , The reason behind this move is to save money and time . fyi

Thank you.
I am greek but I live in England so i travel there a lot as I have a home in paros. I could count like 10 ferries coming in and out every day!
Same in Naxos. I just love the sound and echo I hear from 3+ km when a ferry comes and blow the airhorns

You need to check with your local authorities to see what are the requirements to be able to visit South Korea.

I love this
I’d prefer the crew wait until the ship is a bit closer to shore before they start lowering the ramps.
Calm seas would allow that, chops and swells wont.

@@Vinnie101a ships always do that in Greece and no such accident has occurred because of such a practice, because the ramps are high enough

I' ve never heard about accidents during embaking/disembarking though. Since everybody know the "rules", chaos can be managable.
