When I hear of stories about something which "was solved only four times" I get super fascinated. However, word puzzles are never as entertaining as picks and escape games to me :)
I solved it (mostly I hope) and u need a lot of free time to focus on it (did it during summer break, when I was home from uni) and u definitely need Google as ur bestie. Also it helps if you read a lot of classics und know about English history. But honestly it's definitely possible, most people just give up too quickly
I bought it on the spot after I found it in my local library! I wasn't expecting it at all, considering I live in italy and I didn't think anyone outside of english-speaking countries knew what it was, but apparently it was translated and the editor has made it a competition as well! I'll try and see if I can manage to solve it
I have trouble solving the puzzle of where I left my car keys, so I highly doubt my name would get added as one of the few that solved Cain's Jawbone. lol
5:17 If the book has only recently been republished, this doesn't really surprise me. That, and how insanely difficult it looks -- the 100-piece jigsaw puzzle to find the correct page order.
I’m still trying to understand who the person is to verify whether it’s right or wrong, and how they apparently know they were right to begin with or not.
I just started working on it. I work in a bookstore and we're running a promo on it to get more people's attention on it. So far I'm the only.one working there that has started on the puzzle, though a couple.of friends are also hoping to start trying to crack it when they get a chance to properly sit down with it. We might start working on it together. So far I'm pretty excited. I can't stand pulling apart books, but I know I'll need to cut the pages out and start re orderi g them to get a better idea of the whole thing, so I bought 2 copies. One for pulling apart and writing in and one to keep in tact for my poor booklover's heart. Also, I want to support the publisher. Kind of wish people in my house had an I Teresa in this sort of puzzle, or books I'm general. I love working on puzzles and mystery boxes and the like with someone. It's fun to compare ideas, clues and amp each other up. Hopefully my friends will decide that we should take this on together.
Where are you getting that 4 people have solved this from? My understanding is it's only been solved by 3 people according to the publisher themselves?
Ah, yes. I count Patrick Wildgust, the publisher, as well, since he apparently also found the solution. So I think it's three people who have officially won by entering the competition, plus Wildgust.
I'm afraid not... When I got mine, I didn't know how unusual it was, but since then it seems that it's easy to get the paperback but almost impossible to get the box of cards... Sorry...
I've ordered Cain's Jawbone as a Christmas present to myself. It's probably going to drive me to distraction but it'll give my brain something to chew on. I'm looking forward to the next few years with it.....
Seems to be hard to find... Here's one available second hand in the UK: onlineshop.oxfam.org.uk/cains-jawbone-the-worlds-most-fiendish-literary-puzzle/product/HD_300564742

@@TheloniousCube I was talking about the word alone. Words don't torture. Unless you have a hard time spelling them for some reason. Which I did, but I fixed it now.
@@TheloniousCube What's YOUR problem? 🤣 Why would you supply as "reference" something that the video already references to? It was weird and so what if I responded to that? You comment under my comment and try to attack me out of nowhere? 😂 This insanity and bs! And btw, you mad, bro? 😂
Well. I guess at least now we know who to blame for the virus lol. I wasn't aware of it till the last few weeks. And now I'm on the fence. Really want to try, but lacking any faith I could pull it off
do you think it's possible for a non-native speaker to solve this? I am pretty fluent in english but I struggle with cryptic stuff like this. On the other hand I'm pretty good with puzzle stuff. Do you think I'll be able to solve this with the help of the internet? I'm willing to dedicate all of my free time to this. lmao
It seems to me you should give it a go. It'll be hard for everyone, and the fact that you're not a native speaker might be a help in some ways -- it might stop you making assumptions about words having their modern meanings, for example. On the other hand, I guess you'll need to spend a lot of time looking things up online... :-)
As an example, it's available on Amazon in the UK: www.amazon.co.uk/Cains-Jawbone-Ernest-Powys-Mathers/dp/1800180799. I'd guess you could find it in other online stores too.
Right, yes. Unfortunately I was given my copy as a gift and have no idea where it came from. I've tried looking quite extensively online since posting this video and have only ever been able to find the paperback version.
So, few people know the solution and they keep it secret. You have to send the solution via email and they will tell you if you got it right. Is that how it works?
Wow! Solved it in just seconds away from the 3 minute mark! The only 4 people that could solve this puzzle in decades. As it turns out the guilty one in that book between the employees, the workers and the wicked girl was the wicked girl according to page 100.
Anyone from Jack Edwards’ video?
Welcome! :-)
Yes, I'm here from Jack's video. It will be interesting if Jack can solve it.
Nope. Reddit.
Well, you're welcome here too! :-)
Yep haha

I have a copy. People who can solve things like this frighten me witless. I imagine the previous solvers all ended up at Bletchley in the last war.

Its gaining steam via tiktok! Just ordered six copies for my supper club to putter over together next year.

What edition do you have? I've found one, but it seems it's just a paperback book where I need to cut the pages.
Yeah, it does seem to be hard to get hold of the box. Mine doesn't have an edition number printed on it, but it was printed in 2019.
@@LockPickingCuber Thanks. Yes, I discovered it was a previous edition. The new ones are simple pages that need to be cut. :)
