Reaching Insane Speeds in Sonic Frontiers with True Physics

- I'd love to one day be able to edit his rate of footsteps because, although that's how fast his feet would actually have to move to reach those speeds, it still feels a little too fast. I'll have to figure out how to change that...
Don't worry, there aren't any normal means to reach these speeds with this mod in the base game. There aren't any large enough slopes...although maybe it's possible in Chaos? Not sure.

Even if this wasn't a very modest and casual speed for Sonic, that's still impressive af...
This is probably the closest thing that we'll get Sonic running at his true speed in a open world game.

Just thinking about how a game could be made based around these physics frightens me. To the very least, the physics alone are smooth as butter!

You should give the Sonic Utopia demo a shot. It's a pretty good showcase of what classic sonic would look like as a 3D open world game.
Crazy to think that this was made by Sega themselves and not passionate fans. I have nothing against them but you never imagine this being in an official sonic game.

@@Evangelionism If you weren't there to see it, on May 31st, after an entire year of waiting from 2021 to 2022, there was *finally* a teaser, and we all were hyped.
Until.
June 1st, where IGN showed off the game, and it was an absolute mess.
So much that the entire internet was flaming it, even Some Ordinary Gamers and Critikal. It's a miracle people think the game is good.

Also, these physics mods are gonna be a whole lot more interesting to me when there’s a mod that makes you slowly skid to a stop instead of stopping on a dime. Having a harder time slowing down at high speed is a natural check & balance to make the speed have consequences, and it means you can more safely let go of the analogue stick during certain scripted sequences without worrying that you will just instantly stop out of nowhere. If I were to think of a band-aid solution to this problem, I’d just make sonic automatically begin a slide when you let go of the analogue stick. Not a perfect solution, but a quick and dirty one if it’s possible to do that kind of scripting.
That's actually a great idea! I don't know how to script for this game though...maybe I'll make a bounty on gamebanana. I agree that it needs to 100% be added and that it being a consequence for going super fast is an amazing idea, and one that I've been thinking about recently. As for the footsteps, these are taken from the Sound Overhaul Pack, which takes the footsteps from the boost games. The base game footsteps are a lot quieter I believe.

That's how it sounds in real life though. Bro have you 🏃♂️ before?😂 unless Sonic boosting running faster than sound that's exactly what it would sound like. Planes, formula 1 cars, marathon runners all have lots of noise pollution because that's how speed works in an atmosphere.
Sonic is a true speedster. Sonic knows how to stop on a dime, drift on ice, mud or even Space. He has techniques that slow his speed down. And last time he had any momentum ppl bitch that he was too hard to control. 😂Heroes, Unleashed, Generation. That's more of a player problem though since the Hedgehog engine literally slows you down in restricted sections. Like in 2D sometimes. Same thing in Lost World.(although different engine) It's a player problem not a Sonic problem. Unless you want to be apart of the crew that says "Sonic too fast!" He has techniques like the stomp and drift, or spin Dash and double jump to cancel his momentum or build it. Not once in a Sonic game Sonic struggle or complained about his speed being a obstacle to get through or around a challenge. A mod doesn't need to be made for that. You as a player and human being needs to adapt to the situation.

ok so after playing with the true physics mod I must say it is pretty fun running at Mach speed across the map. Idk if this is something I would use for an actual playthrough but for simply screwing around this is perfect. It makes me wish I could actually run on water in this game or that there were more loops, and in terms of speed maybe someway to change the FOV (not camera distance, kinda like how the boost games did it to give a real sense of speed) but i don't believe we'll get anything like that anytime soon (or at least not for a very long time)
Would love to see this in a 3D model way. Just the animation of him running and his legs moving at that speed from the side. Would look really cool!

Not really, I think it’s just the fans overhyping things like always, claiming “this year will be the year for Sonic!! I just feel it!!!”. The teaser only showed us Sonic running on grass, there wasn’t even any gameplay back then.

this really shows how an open zone where sonic could run at full speed would need to have places that are nearly empty, in order to give the player the feeling of going actually fast. (obviusly there should also be areas where you could do things but I´m talkin about speed only)

Imagine a massive open world Sonic game with multiple biomes to travel to whenever you wanted? That would be pretty freaking awesome. Make it 3x the size of Skyrim +DLC, have it all interconnected and it would be beautiful
A large open world Sonic game that let's the players cross the map in a reasonable time just by running fast would be pretty awesome. I have no idea how they'd make the progression work, but I do want it.

Misconception than. That depends on how many units Sonic size is in. Sonic is more bigger in Colors than in Unleashed and Generation.

unfortunately i doubt we were really that close. that’s on a pc and while it’s very good still is pretty choppy on rendering. they wouldn’t be able to make it for switch/previous console gens

Many Sonic fans are already tired of momentum and the Sonic team was removed at their request, but it seems to me that he plays better with momentum than without it.
This looks pretty smooth! I like it! Now I would love to see the unleashed type of boost in this game. I'd be pretty cool if frontiers has that.
Honestly the boost could be implemented in a really good way here. Just make it so you already have to be going a certain speed in order to boost, that way you still have to work for movement.

The Boost having a speedcap is one of the best things about it, especially in Frontiers, it makes Sonic much easier to control.

I really want a Sonic open world game with Sonic's peel out animation
I genuinely hope for a Sonic Frontiers 2 where we've got like a big city in the middle of the map with alleyways and sewers to explore, grindables, easy access to tun up buildings, etc. And then the furter out from the city you go the real zones pop up where there are like a few natural loop de loops like from the recent show. but i want some areas to super far off, like think of having a Crew/Crew 2 level map on a sonic game, and just blasting through a countryside, getting the best views and genuinely fun but FAST traversal.
Like you can find so many secrets

Remember in Sonic Adventures opening scene when you get a first person view of sonic running through the grass and then the city and everything just kinda blurs past him? This reminds me of that.
