  • Happy New Year!
    To mark the occasion of reaching over 1 million views on the channel plus having my first upload to hit 100,000 views I wanted to give a full instructional guide free to watch for everyone on youtube as a small token of my appreciation for everyone's input to helping the channel grow.
    In this full guide I show how you can take a simple thin band and modify it to be a 4 claw single stone ring.
    Its the first time I have made this ring so it was an experimental endeavor.
    I like the design and has potential to be a convenient and easy way to make single or multiple stone set rings. Please take it and make what ever you wish!
    Check out the free online course version of this full guide here -

    I like your humour of repurposing a wedding ring. The setting looks good with the time you took to prepare the bezel and 4 posts.

    When you're marking your prongs for where to cut, you may find it helpful to take a blue or black sharpie and color the inside of the prongs.
    Once dry (just a few minutes) you'll find it won't scratch from setting the stone into place. Put some wax on the tip of a toothpick. Place the stone where you want it. Touch the wax to it, twist back and forth slightly, and the girdle will mark the prongs on the bottom edge. If you cut your seat on the bottom edge, it should lower the stone to exactly where you want it.

    I like the Final design a lot. It makes an allowance for the culet which the initial design did not seem to. It looks quite minimalist and elegant.

    • @SWINGERINTO
      @SWINGERINTO Рік тому +2

      All you would have to do with the original design is drill into the ring a bit for the pavillion.
      That said, I agree. The final version is nicer than the original aesthetically.

    • @johnsmalldridge6356
      @johnsmalldridge6356 Рік тому +1

      @@SWINGERINTO you could drill the bottom out and I’ve had to do this before but I find it less than ideal for clear stones.

    • @SWINGERINTO
      @SWINGERINTO Рік тому +1

      @johnsmalldridge6356 any stone that doesn't window, cut to the proper critical angles or doesn't have a culet should not have a problem. That moissanite won't have a culet. Most diamonds don't either.

      Its simplicity is a positive but I can imagine a more complex version working also (split shoulders, pave set etc)

    Round brilliant cut has some kind of square dimension on the table of the stone. Can use these corners to match and control prongs to set.

    I love it when you make a full instructional guide for non-patrons. The Patrons must have a load of knowledge.. I gotta become one soon!
    Also love that the Diamond Mounter is actually mounting (setting) gemstones. Sorry Chris, actually not bagging on you.. you have Mad Skills, and I have learned so much! Most people don't know that Jewelers, goldsmiths, gem setters, ect are all specialized trades and requires different skills! I respect that you are getting into setting. I would love to see more videos about you learning to do grain setting, pave settings, ect.
    I have made a few videos.. very shotty and not very good. Give Chris some respect! It takes a lot of time and effort to do what he does! Chris has a genuine desire to teach and goes through a lot of effort. Thanks Chris! Your channel is my favorite 😍

    Hi thanks for the tutorial. I went ahead and enrolled in the free tutorial hoping to find some wire sizes that you use as you don't say in the video either. It would be more than helpful to know wire sizes as we are not experienced enough to jut know these things. Thanks again for your videos and now tutorials.

    I'm about to start learning how to cut notches with a dremel to eventually set an emerald and gold ring. It's making me so anxious, lol. Practicing on pendants first.

    Love your channel, I have learned such a lot thanks, I wondered if you may find pumice stone (volcanic rock) useful as a soldering block, I have used it for years, it can be sanded flat, you can stick pins in it, I use old pins and sewing machine needles to pin items down, and when it gets worn just sand it down again, I can draw on it with a pencil, I also use small pieces to carve out shapes to stick the claws of my settings into, it protects the claws from the flame, I could not be without my pumice blocks.

    That horizontal ring line may reflects some kind of dark shadow through the clear stone?

      No and its very unlikely one exists. Basically Japan doesn't like, trust or want foreigners here. I couldn't even get a jewellery supply shop to sell me anything when I was new here.

    I can’t find a definition of “phrasing” anywhere else. I assume it means bending in the prongs, but can you possibly clarify? I’m an almost total beginner!
