Dog Amigurumi Crochet Tutorial

- From start to finish, I show you how to crochet an amigurumi dog that's so floofy! This uses the brushed crochet technique (requires natural fiber yarn such as wool or alpaca and a pet slicker brush). This amigurumi tutorial shows you how to crochet all the parts, the brushing and the assembly.

Hi Holly I just used shank buttons for my doll so you should be able to find these at your local JoAnns or craft store. You can also use safety eyes and nose if you prefer and those can also be purchased here: shop.shinyhappyworld.com/collections/eyes-and-noses
What kind of eyes did you use? I want to make one for a baby so it needs to be extra safe.

Hi! I wasn’t sure how you are fastening off. Do you slip stitch the last stitch to the first and then fasten off or just fasten off? Thank you!
I do either or depending on my mood sometimes. You can't go wrong either way! In this case because the yarn is so fuzzy and you won't see the stitches I'll just fasten off without doing a slip stitch.

I hv a question plss reply to this...so different ppl make crochet soft toys with different yarn and hook sizes..and so if i use the yarn i hv with the appropriate hook size for that and follow the same pattern..will i get the same shape as they get? Plsss reply to thiss
Hi yes, the shape should still be the same. You'll just either get a doll that's bigger or smaller depending on yarn and hook size. Hope that helps!
is there an alternative to using the pet slicker?
You can try using a regular hair brush with bristles but it may not come out as fluffy!

I used a super bulky weight yarn. The specific yarn I used was Loops and Threads, cozy wool.
How many skeins of yarn do I need?
Just 1. You can even make the whole Dog in one color if you want.

For the head 5-7 does that mean 2 rows?
It means Round 5, Round 6, and Round 7 for a total of 3 rounds altogether.

It's best for the yarn to have some wool or alpaca in it as it'll become more fuzzier. You can try with other types of yarn but it won't be as fluffy!

Is it fine if I don't use bulky yarn? The yarn sold here aren't really bulky, they're like the normal acrylic yarns. Will it mess up the way the dog looks?
Hi Riasnner, it's fine not to use bulky yarn. Your dog will just come out smaller! The important thing though to use a yarn that has at least 50% wool in it. If you use just acrylic yarn, it won't fluff up as much.

How would you do a Border Collie???
You can try finding another crochet pattern that's a Border Collie, but just use wool yarn and then try brushing it out. If you do, let me know how it turns out!

This is yarn made from either sheep or alpaca. I'm not familiar with the yarn brands in Taiwan, but I believe they should have yarn like this there as well!

Is there an alternative way to make the tail? I’ve tried 4 times to make the tail and I keep failing at it 😫
Yes, if 4 sc is too tight, you can also go for 5 or 6 sc in the round instead. Hope that can help! Or another alternate is to do ch 9, and sc in each ch for a total 8 single crochet stitches and just brush it out. Good luck!

If you would like to slow down the video, you can always click on the gear icon located on the bottom right corner of the screen and then click on "speed" and choose your option. If you were looking for more beginner crochet tutorials, I recommend starting off with my duck amigurumi tutorial first. And if my tutorials aren't helpful to you, hope you can find something else online that is. Best of luck to you!
There is a thing called pause. Do the stitches check your count and then your pause button should have changed to play. Press play and get the directions for the next round and press pause again... there are not a lot of stitch counts here so why? 😢
