There was a video on UA-cam about the original model of the Sandshark, where it was fully taken apart to demonstrate the serious conception and the solidity and reliability of the inner mechanism … and it was compared to another OTF, the Benchmade Infidel, which mechanism showed very light and weak, could be blocked at the slightest obstacle prior to blade deployment … and all of it was quite convincing … After that the Sandshark went out of production for reasons I don’t know, but for years that knife has been the absolute reference of a strong OTF, capable of piercing holes in an oil barrel ( see video on UA-cam) So I’m wondering if that new version has kept the sturdy mechanism from the old version or if it is a degraded Chinese copy of it ? What do you think ?
Thanks for dropping a comment! You know, it’s hard to have an accurate review of this batch versus the original since I’ve only handled this newly produced version. From what I’ve seen online - IG and UA-cam - this new batch is missing one of the most differentiated components: the 3 insets screws that would eliminate blade play. There are strength tests done on this one that holds up very well - punching multiple holes through a steel drum without lock fail. Check out @chippedmetal on IG when you get a chance.
It's still absolutely unbelievable...solid...and repeats and passes the barrel test...and it's not $2k ..that's how much Sand Sharks are going for ... minimum

I’ve only had it for a week, so I can’t really provide an accurate assessment on its durability. It feels very solid though, heavy as well. I’ve fired it about 3 dozen times and it hasn’t failed on deployment or retraction so far.
There's a guy on Facebook who punched the blade through a steel drum and the lid. Then he hammers it into a 6×6 wood up to half way in.. works fine . The drum blunted the tip as you would expect. But never failed and action unfazed

I do like how clean the whole thing looks, but then that blade looks vicious lol
