Your deffo more methodical than many other bricklayers - I like the way you do your block work to suit the needs of the insulation so it doesn’t bulge out whereas I saw Charlie Collison doing some and it was all moving over the place didn’t look too good on a UA-cam video!
fact is trowel size don't make a lot of difference to speed, a bigger trowel however is responsible for tennis or golfers elbow, I myself use a 12 inch Marshall town for the simple reason it lasts longer and is the same price but am full of cortisone injections for elbow/wrist/shoulder pain
That's good logic, save a couple of quid but destroy the elbow/wrist/shoulder and get pumped full of steroid injection but hey get a but more value out of that trowel. You might save 50 over a decade. Shrewd

Nothing wrong using a 12 inch trowel what ever suits elbows will get fucked with small or big trowel. Boards down long benefit from bigger trowel but really need to get them boards up to waist level 800mm a think ma stands are something like that and that’s where you will benefit with a 9-10inch trowel. 7inch only good on dry bricks with frogs picking and dipping.
If you like a 12" trowel great, if you like a small trowel great. Every one is different. All these people saying a 12 inch trowel will do this to your wrist or what ever, everyone is built different. Some people's body can handle it, some can't. Just like some athletes get injured and some don't, some people catch cold some don't, and some people get tennis elbow using a large trowel and some people don't.

In the quest for small trowel big trowel consider Tennis elbow ! If you get it trying to be a “ mortar baron” beware you won’t be working much in the future, Just sayin!

You have to use what’s better for you everyone’s different I guess but the 12” trowel looks like it’s more useful for checking stuff.
Shrewd
I think Charlie just use's the small trowel for pick & dip an it is just enough for 1 brick
Keep us posted on how you stop that old gable falling down , looks paggered 🤣 another great vid mate 👍🏼
😂😂😂I've got a master plan for it mate🤞🤞👌 Cheers mate! Enjoy your weekend fella
need to try a fish knife next 🤣
Brilliant work buddy! If I were you, I'd stick with the trowel you know the most! 😁 Keep up the great work mate, looking forward to the next one! 👌😁👍👷♂️🧱
Cheers fella! Have a good weekend buddy!
11 1/2 ....12 ...on block, brick.....plant something with the spade....
should have kept joints gauge and bedded pan up
Joints on block are angled back to much when applied. Try to keep joint near same plane as face of block.
Don't leave gaps in your spread. Don't leave mortar hanging. Two much mortar for flat bottom units if not bedding up.
Small trowel is Chinese JUNK I think.
Don't leave ANY mortar projecting on face or top after you lay and cut a unit.
Keep that trowel for gardening.
Charlie's C trowels have many bad habits.
In later videos he agrees with Charlie 😂👍🏼
😂😂😂 quite naive back here
Surprised building control didn’t ask you to take down that wall with beds that thick!
Who sets anything to 940mm tell him I said he’s a right plank ! Obviously got no clue of brick gauge or building I would have taken his work down and started again 😄
Aah I know..but after talking to him about it...the wallplate needed to be set at 940, to marry up with the hand built roof going on to match the existing gable. So can see what hes trying to do!
Ey hope your good mate! Have a good weekend buddy!🍻🍻
Cheers pal you too buddy looking forward to ya next video 👍
He could of just double plated it,.... Being a chippy, he should of thought of that 😂
Chippy’s are failed bricklayers 😂
Slice furrowing faster more control.
spread down a few shovels of sand along the wall where your walking it will stop the snots sticking ....
Well Charlie can lay bricks like no fuckers business
Excelente y muy bonito trabajo🧱🧱👍👍👍saludos desde chile🙏🙏💯💯
Trowels are like all hand tools and golf clubs, its in the feel, one size dont fit all,
Loving the videos , when the next upload??🧱
Cheers mate! Hopefully some point this week.👍🍻
I would get the sack for using that trowel
That 7 in isnt for outside brick work it works magic in the refineries laying refractory brick
I always swap better 9" and 13" just depends on how I feel. Hope your good mate
@@IzzytheBricky same as. I use my 12 till eye level, then a smaller worn one for the next four course. Gauge or tile setters when working out of a bucket. And my worn one for intricate stuff. Keep up the good work.
Cheers buddy appreciate it! New video finally out tomorrow ☺️
If those bricks on the pallets r for this job,,, get them covered up
using a big trowel to compensate 😂😂😂 imagine if Charlie used a big trowel he lay lot more in a day
Maybe good for pic & dip on brickwork Izzy?
Probably so mate! I'll give it a go next week👌👌
Sorry mate didn't realise you had to bump up that much. Good work
Haha cheers mate! Ye the wallplate needed to be set at 940😄 Enjoy the rest of your weekend buddy, cheers for the comments 👍
Can you do a video on how to build a fire pit?
Ayup, I'm sure some lads on UA-cam have already done that mate! Have a little look:)
Pick and dip is the way to go..you can plod away and you're x amount of bricks ahead of the other guy as he ain't even laying yet.
Hahahaha... Next you brickies will be using pointing trowels. Build up your muscles you fannies!
Thermalite block good build them with a tea spoon there that light 10 Inc big enough let's not try and change the wheel cavity wall small trowel can clean snots
Over 20 years small trowels good for jobbing bricklayer and people with small wrists lol
I did find it good to getting into tight spots in the cavity and that..which was quite nice...also my big trowel catches the wind like a kite..so it was nice to having that blow about in my hand all day😂 spot on mate👌🍻🍻
I could use that trowel mate.
Good video Izzy . But You might have been better off doing the comparison on a wall that you didn’t have to bed up so much . You’d probably need to stick to bedding for one block at a time with the tilers trowel . The tilers trowel is a handy one to have in the bag.
Yea mate very true, probably not the best job to try it put..but was too eager to try it😂😂 hope your well buddy 👍👍🍻
In the quest for small trowel big trowel consider Tennis elbow ! If you get it trying to be a “ mortar baron” beware you won’t be working much in the future, Just sayin!
Did Charlie tell you that by any chance
Sorry Izzy them beds are far to big. Spending all your time tapping. Also seem to be moving and changing direction a lot. Get in a steady rhythm. I have been laying bricks for nearly 40 years. Always used a 12in trowel. Started using my discarded 9in marshalltown 2 years ago. Love it
Have you got a brother called Paul?
No mate haha
@@harveysmith100 HI Harvey. Yes that's me.You must be as sad as me watching bricklaying on UA-cam. Haha
@@michaelamos4651 Hello Mick, Yes two sad old trowels. When you say watching bricklaying, you mean that in the looses sense. Roy Peters would be screaming, "Stop tapping!!" As for 20mm beds????
Say hello to Paul.
@@harveysmith100 You're right there mate. Mon morning raining 🌧. Nothing changes. Good luck mate
Wet the spot boards down
10inch all the way.!
Yea buddy, 10" is a lovely trowel 👌😄 hope your well and not getting to wet in this crap weather buddy
🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️🏗️
wow a job for a hobby
Mate stick to what you know, well saying that I just ordered a new W.rose I heard it’s good for elbow pain but we will see haha
Haha yes Andy! I've heard that there good for that too mate! Let us know how you get on with it! I tried this one for my back pain, but felt more pain with all the bending I had to do using it.
We was a 10 n 4 last year we all switched to w rose, guess what we all switched back now to Marshall town
@@Trekman78 fk me a 10n4 and..bet you lads turned out some work! Were you on supers? Or more industrial work?
@@Trekman78 they that bad?
its a pick n dip trowel
N whats with all the tapping down , you said yourself you are picking up 😂
I’m the same
Personally mate I don’t think you are as productive,it seems like you are doubling or even tripling your time picking up gear fair play for giving it a go though, nice job as well pal gonna look the bollox when your done 👌🏻
Cheers matey appreciate it! Yea I thought that too, especially seeing those two clips side by side! Not giving up with it just yet😂😉 Have a good weekend fella!
Instead making you bump they should’ve given you a bigger plate 😂
Good should mate, I've seen 4x1 bedded on with 80mm wallplate bolted on top a couple of times..all the same really..as long as it dont move too far..its all good😂👌🍻
Keep your trowel hand closest to the line when spreading ffs ,and dont let joiners near your work, that's the problem now any tool thinks he an just do a tradesman job, would NEVER been allowed in the past
Another expert. 12 taps and 6 scrapes a block
Any one caught tapping was shouted at in the college I went too.
Lay the the bed right in the first place, but then again if you are putting it on with a shovel.......
Not so many wasted motions it takes years to get that bag of tricks stick with it young blood and don’t try to be anyone else keep that twelve moving it’s going to turn in to a 10 if u don’t beat the handle of of it carry on
It’s for pick and dipping on brick work not for block work but fear play for trying it out on the block work fuc* thay lol
Haha agreed fella! Saw Charlie using it on concrete blockwork few days ago ago so thought it would be cool. Obviously I'm not use to it at all though 😂 Enjoy your weekend mate!🍻🍻🍻
Haha Yhe I don’t know how he can use it on block work but fear play brick work yhe. And you mate 🥃🥃🥃🍸
Its not the size, its how you use it
size is not everything, as we are always being told, its the way you use it, ? well thats what the wife said,
🤣🤣, nice one Alex could do with a new pointing trowel 😏. .
Did you use your steel toe cap to joint up them beds 🤨. It’s bad enough following another bricky but a joiner let loose with a blade no no no 😳😆🧱👍🏼
Spot on lads! I'm gonna have a play with it next week on some brickwork, if i cant get on with it, I'll send it over to you boys to have a go! Then you can tell us how you find it..and then you send it on it's way again😂🍻 yea big old joints! Turns out that 940 was the perfect hight he needs for the WallPlate to marry up with the existing gable..so I guess it was actually on purpose 👌👌😉
Hope your both well! I'll check out your new video in 5mins buddy!🍻🍻 Have a good weekend fellas!
@@IzzytheBricky 😁😁😁🧱👍🏽
Sounds to me like your taking the piss out of old Charlie boy here mate, could be wrong though.
That is a serious fuck up lol
Go head to head with Charlie on a line with ya 12 inch lmfao
I dont see the fascination with this charlie. He can pick and dip..... so what. He wouldn't last 5 mins doing the technical stuff like Rob Songer, thats real brickwork.
muck looks ropey also
12 inch hands gotta hurt
You lay using a diff method to Charlie, that trowels for pick n dip .
Also you chose to do a vid laying blocks for one n for two blocks that need picking up .
Basically this is an unfair representation , also it would only be fair if u could lay to the same speed n level as Charlie, which .......you can't.
Biased " he gets more subs , n views than me" video sorry
Should have pulled down the existing blockwork
Cant do that to the customers work😂😂 the WP had to be set at 940mm to marry up with the old gable..so kinda has be stay and be like that
