I have a paint bucket that I attached to an old shop vac after removing the motor and making a large hole. I used to have a plywood thein baffle inside and had inlet and outlet ports. I recently bought the clear Dustopper and removed the baffle, old bucket top, and sealed inlet port. I love the Dustopper and it's fun to watch the dust swirls. 😊 I was impressed with the efficiency. I sucked dust from about 1/3 of plastic bag under my main dust collector instead of removing removing the bag. Minimal dust made it to the shop vac.

I have 3 Dustoppers in conjunction with 3 Ridgid Shop Vacs. I wish the Dustopper was provided with a gasket to form a perfect seal. Hi , I'm considering a Dustopper upgrade for my renovation , that Blue poly drum upgrade looks like a nice upgrade, do you lose any suction strength ? For finer dust like drywall and final sweep up could you add a tophat cone to sit on the poly bucket shelf too controll dust even more ? You would need a 3/4 to 1" space for the cone to allow debris to pass down but it may be helpful in keeping the air swirl even lower than the standard Dustopper setup. Where can I purchase those poly pails.? Thanks
We got the blue poly drum off of Amazon. When made according to the instructions on our website, there is no leakage, and therefore no loss in suction. When vacuuming drywall dust, the Dustopper will still separate about 95% or better, but the small amount that gets to the filter can be an issue. I have found the most effective way to use a poly drum for drywall work is to follow by adding a bag filter to the inside of a vacuum. Something like one of these. Be sure to make sure the bag is a good fit for the vacuum you are using. We hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments; we're here to help!

Hello, was curious if you did any testing on Dustopper with drywall/sheetrock sanding dust and what were the results? Or perhaps you do know that Dustopper would work only on larger particles like wood for example. Thanks
Hello! This is a great question! It works with it but with drywall dust being so fine, it is important to have high airflow to maintain separation efficiency. The issue with separating drywall dust comes from sanders not being made with dust separation in mind; the small holes used to vacuum dust through an orbital sander are too small to allow good airflow. We suggest using the dust bags in the link below along with the Dustopper when trying to keep a filter clean from drywall dust. We are developing a product that will improve airflow when using sanders and maintain high efficiency with drywall but for the time being having the dust bags for the finest particles that are missed and the Dustopper for keeping the bags from filling immediately is the best way to go. www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-High-Efficiency-Size-A-Dust-Bags-for-12-Gal-to-16-Gal-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Vacs-2-Pack-VF3502/100390230
so my question to you is my shop vac is low capacity could I not use my wet vac with the water filter and use this as an extra storage in case of a flooded basement does that sound possible?
Great question! Yes, it would work but we would not suggest using the 12-gallon blue poly drum. When full, it will weigh about 100 lbs and be very hard to move about. Most people we've talked to about flood mitigation say they like to use typical 5-gallon pails. Two five-gallon pails (generally filled to about 4 gallons) will weigh under 35 lbs. each. One person carrying two pails by their handles can generally move about fairly well. Carrying the blue poly drum would require the person to wrap their arms around the drum, and then carry it in a "bear hug" fashion. It could be very messy!
So just started searching but just tried to adopt the product to a 55gallon plastic trash can! And did not work it collapsed it cause no separation but the trash can didn’t lose seal! So now 55gallon poly drum with no lid but curious if it will work before wasting my life again

If you are worried about the seal while the vacuum is running, the suction of the vacuum will draw the Dustopper down for a tight seal on the bucket. It is the the same with most vacuums and their lids; odds are that if you check the rim of your vacuum there won't be a gasket to seal it. Then if you turn the vacuum on and lift it up by the lid with it unclasped, the whole vacuum will still stay sealed together, assuming it's not full. Once the vacuum is off though, if the tabs on the Dustopper have opened up some, the Dustopper can pop off without the suction to hold it. You can give those tabs a light bend inward to help with that, but you won't have to worry about a bad seal with everything running.
@@thedustopper I'm having the same problem with my dustopper. It doesn't fit the home depot bucket tight enough that I can move the unit around without everything falling apart. What do you think of sawing out the bottoms of two Homer bucket, leaving about two inches of plastic perimeter and perhaps, adding a wooden ring between the buckets to allow good surface contact and strength, connect the buckets with sealant, screws, washers and nuts?
Can this set up be used with a dust collector system?
Great question Julia! It really depends on what kind of dust collection system that you are using. The amount of horsepower and size of your ductwork does have an impact. The Dustopper does have the potential to work with a dust collection system but it typically does better with a smaller system.
The 14 gal poly drum is almost $60 compared to $3 or $4 for the 5 gal bucket. I’ll empty the 5 gal version for the difference in price.
That is definity an option! Sometimes you can find refurbished or used poly drums for cheaper too; we've seen them on Facebook marketplace, Craigslist or even shops that are closing.
I am in the middle of setting up my dust collection and found one for $20 👍
Is he saying “Dust Hopper”?
Dust-stopper
how did you add the base to the poly drum?
We built the base with a recess for the drum to sit in then we used washers and 4 screws to secure it.
Wow 5 wardrobe changes for a 10 minute vid. Lol
Dustopper FYI. Just picked up 3 of the units here in Phoenix and am eager to get them set up

I had an old bucket with the 2 rings. My local Home Depots (CA) only have one ring just above the handle.
The Dustopper should still work if the bucket has only only one ring. However, please let us know if it doesn't.
Couldn't I just buy a dust deputy and mount it to anything including but not limited to a home depot bucket
We are not sure how the Dust Deputy performs when modified in this manner.
So technically I could use this same technique on a 40 gallon trash right?
Absolutely!
I called the company twice within business hours and and the phone just rang and rang! There was no option to leave a message. I was finally disconnected at approximately three minutes. Their Customer Service isn't good.
We're sorry to hear that you couldn't reach us. Please provide us with the phone number you called as we want to look into this further. We are also here to help with whatever you need; please email us at service@dustopper.com and we will respond ASAP!
Jesus, somebody get this guy a jig saw. It took 5 days to cut a bucket and hole in a lid using $10,000 in shop tools. Assuming he dressed differently each day instead of five times in on day.
HaHaHa! I'm the old fart in the video. Dang, I should have thought about using a Jig Saw! Thanks for the great advice. BTW, I was wondering who would be the first to notice the costume changes. Guess what your get for pointing them out?...........My undying gratification for your sense of humor. Ya'all come back now....
❤🤣✌🏼❤️
You should use a hand tool maybe angle grinder not a table saw use tools most people have in their garage
It looks like you need several hundred dollars worth of equipment in a shop to duplicate this fix.
We used the tools we have acquired through the years in our shop to produce this modification, but it can be easily done with hand tools, a few screws and an adhesive. If you need any assistance creating this, please reach out to us at service@dustopper.com. Thank you!
Cart... yrs
You got it Danny! We will post a video soon on how to make the cart.
The latest Home Depot buckets don't have two rings. It appears that this won't work.
We double checked and the current 5 gallon Home Depot buckets have the two rings. Did you perhaps purchase a different bucket?
