    I’ve been using mine for over a year now and have no complaints except for when using it to clean the flue (30’) for the wood stove, I guess the particles were to fine and most of the soot went to the filter. Not the fault of the Dustopper!

    so my question to you is my shop vac is low capacity could I not use my wet vac with the water filter and use this as an extra storage in case of a flooded basement does that sound possible?

    • @thedustopper
      @thedustopper 6 місяців тому

      Great question! Yes, it would work but we would not suggest using the 12-gallon blue poly drum. When full, it will weigh about 100 lbs and be very hard to move about. Most people we've talked to about flood mitigation say they like to use typical 5-gallon pails. Two five-gallon pails (generally filled to about 4 gallons) will weigh under 35 lbs. each. One person carrying two pails by their handles can generally move about fairly well. Carrying the blue poly drum would require the person to wrap their arms around the drum, and then carry it in a "bear hug" fashion. It could be very messy!

    I have a paint bucket that I attached to an old shop vac after removing the motor and making a large hole. I used to have a plywood thein baffle inside and had inlet and outlet ports. I recently bought the clear Dustopper and removed the baffle, old bucket top, and sealed inlet port. I love the Dustopper and it's fun to watch the dust swirls. 😊 I was impressed with the efficiency. I sucked dust from about 1/3 of plastic bag under my main dust collector instead of removing removing the bag. Minimal dust made it to the shop vac.

    Hi gang. I've been a Dustopper user for about 4 years now. I've tried or made most of the 2 1/2" based dust separators. By far in my opinion, this is the easiest to install and best dust separator out there for its size. Been using it on a stack of 5gal buckets I cut the bottoms out of. The bottom one is a 6gal, almost clear bucket, so I can use it as fill marker. I glued and taped all of the various add on buckets for a good seal. Been using this setup for about 3.5 years now.

    I had a small job recently to suck water out of a cocomat for a high-end store and ended up having to use my filter while sucking water, which I didn't like doing. This would have been nice to have. How much vacuum loss results from using this? (I use the Ridgid 4.5g vacuum). I need to buy one of these.

    • @thedustopper
      @thedustopper Рік тому

      It’s always a good idea to remove the filter from any vacuum when you’re going to be picking up water. The advantage to doing that with a dustopper is that you can carry the water away for disposal and keep vacuuming with a new bucket in place. I did that at home once when our basement flooded. I use the vacuum to pick up water, and my wife carried buckets back to the laundry sink were they could be poured out. When you’re done, you can restore the filter and everything should go back to normal.

      @@thedustopper - This was in a high-end store and I didn't have my exhaust filter on, so I had to keep that filter on. I was picking up quite a bit of coconut fibers from the mat which would have been spit out the exhaust and it was dyed black which made the water black, so any water at all that could escape in the exhaust would have been very bad. But otherwise, I have always removed the filter when picking up water.

    • @thedustopper
      @thedustopper Рік тому

      @@need100k Thank you for continuing the conversation regarding your Dustopper experience. We are happy to provide technical support in hopes of offering a solution you can trust, should your “black water” circumstance arise again. The new details you have provided are very helpful. While the Dustopper is great at separating dust, you have now learned that using it to separate water may allow a tiny percentage of unwanted water enter the vacuum. In most cases, mist that might get to the diffuser’s filter is clear, so it’s usually not a concern. In your case, the black dye imparted by the fibers accompanying the water add a new challenge to deal with. I think you’ve hit the jackpot when it comes to finding the “most difficult challenge” for dust separators to work with. In our research, we focused primarily on dust separation, giving little thought to water separation. Now that black dye has been added to the water collection issue, we THINK the following approach may have solved your problem. Of course, we would have to repeat your exact set of circumstances to be certain. RIDGID, and perhaps other vacuum makers, sells a special filter (www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Wet-Application-Foam-Filter-for-Most-5-Gallon-and-Larger-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Shop-Vacuums-2-Pack-VF7000E/318558279) for water collection for use with their larger vacuums. The reviews are generally good, with most people indicating a satisfactory performance. Some users might even ask, “If I buy a foam water filter, do I even need a Dustopper?” Well…It depends. Since water weighs 8 pounds per gallon, it can be difficult to easily dump out of a vacuum’s collection tub. RIDGID address this issue by selling an electric motor vacuum accessory with a hose connection. When a hose is attached, water can be pumped from the vacuum to a remote location for disposal. When working with a Dustopper, nearly all the water is collected in the pail the Dustopper rests upon. The very small amount of water that enters the vacuum would be abated by the addition of the special Water Filter inside the vacuum. It is unlikely that any water would exit from the external diffuser filter. Again, we have not tested this, and base our thoughts solely on the Water Filter reviews provided on www.homedepot.com. Admittedly it’s a bit of an expensive proposition, but if you are working in a “High End” store, or a nice home’s refinished basement, it may be well worth the investment. Please let us know if we’ve answered your questions satisfactorily. It’s always a pleasure to share our Dustopper stories with valuable customers like YOU! Thanks, Tom (Inventor)

      Hello! We would like to get a little more information about your set up if we could. What type of vacuum are you using? From what we can tell, when this issue generally occurs, there is something causing restriction at the pick-up hose. This is what causes the bucket to collapse on itself. The other issue could be is the material of the plastic trash can is too brittle. Once we get more information on your set up, we are happy to help you troubleshoot this. We've addressed this question on our website under the 'Need Help' tab. Please see the question "Why is the bucket collapsing? How do you fix it?" www.dustopper.com/help/

    Hi , I'm considering a Dustopper upgrade for my renovation , that Blue poly drum upgrade looks like a nice upgrade, do you lose any suction strength ? For finer dust like drywall and final sweep up could you add a tophat cone to sit on the poly bucket shelf too controll dust even more ? You would need a 3/4 to 1" space for the cone to allow debris to pass down but it may be helpful in keeping the air swirl even lower than the standard Dustopper setup. Where can I purchase those poly pails.? Thanks

    • @thedustopper
      @thedustopper 2 роки тому

      We got the blue poly drum off of Amazon. When made according to the instructions on our website, there is no leakage, and therefore no loss in suction. When vacuuming drywall dust, the Dustopper will still separate about 95% or better, but the small amount that gets to the filter can be an issue. I have found the most effective way to use a poly drum for drywall work is to follow by adding a bag filter to the inside of a vacuum. Something like one of these. Be sure to make sure the bag is a good fit for the vacuum you are using. We hope this helps! Please let us know if you have any other questions or comments; we're here to help!

    The latest Home Depot buckets don't have two rings. It appears that this won't work.

      We double checked and the current 5 gallon Home Depot buckets have the two rings. Did you perhaps purchase a different bucket?

    Great idea i will do this Question would it easier to cut bottom of the orange bucket thanks for the video

      @thedustopper 2 роки тому

      Yes you can cut any part of the bucket but you’ll have a better chance at having a stronger connection the closer that you cut to the top. Cutting higher up on the bucket is advised because there will be more support from potential bucket collapse.

    What are those nifty black things you use at 5:44 to keep your rails steady on the floor?

    Please Help! 1. The fittings pop off the top. Should they be glued? 2. The whole thing is tippy. Unable to use AT ALL without the bucket falling over. Unfortunately, I can not do the stacking thing, as the vacuum must live under a 8' wide counter. Plenty of room NEXT to it. Plus, because this is not hooked up to stationary equipment, it is even more unweildy trying to use it with a vacuum hose and brush to clean floor and machines. 3. Three trips to HD, as the fittings included would not fit either of my 16 gallon Craftsman vacs, so I bought a new Ridgid vacuum. Either that or modifying hoses and a pile of adapters. The new vac was lower friction for me. Any availability of that dolly or alternative that is not another 50.00-100.00 would be awesome.. already into this for well over 100.00 and hours of my time!

    I was going to pick up the 2 for 1 deal but when I was going to check out I was shocked by the shipping price. Are you kidding me? You want to charge me at least as much if not more than 5 times as much as the price of the unit itself to ship it to me??? No thanks. If I decide to buy one I'll go spend full price at the store which makes it cheaper than buying direct for the source. That's not the way it is supposed to be, but if that's the way you want it. Sorry for your charity.

      Hi Mark! All shipping rates are dependent on location and individual shipping company rates. Where are you located exactly; US or Canada?

      @@thedustopper Northern Los Angeles County, California, USA. I understand shipping rates very but its not worth paying $50 to ship something that cost $50 that I'm not in a hurry to get. I'm not yet ready to setup shop, I'm just getting all the components so when I am ready, I'm ready. Thank you for getting back to me.
