Great video Kaity! The best thing about a sump is the ease that you can add different media. I can’t wait to see what type of scape you go for in this new project. Cam
Wow I wanted this exact waterbox. I didn’t realize how much work it’s going to be but I’m glad I found your channel and this video is awesome! Thank you for this informative and detailed video!
Once you get used to a sump and how it operates its the only way to go........much easier to maintain and take care of mechanical and chemical media. Lugging heavy canisters for decades I've been now been a sump owner for the last 10+ years. I finally got my WB 100.3 up and running after getting the flooring replaced! Won't move my Cichlids in yet until I get it settled and running the way I want it. WB tanks are sweet! Thanks for the great video!
Thank you so much! Yes, I'm really liking the sump so far. And that's awesome, I'm so excited for you 🤗 You are going to love it. I'd love to see some pics when you get it all up and running
@@Kaityscichlids I don't want to pry, but I'd love to know more about you, personally. If you're comfortable with it, maybe make an "about me" video. Is he your bf? What did you go to Uni for? What do you do for work? You talked a bit about yourself, and your brother's tank, in a previous video. If you're not comfortable with it, I understand. Just curious about my new friend
Hi Kaity great video once again. Having never had a sump I didn't realise how much fine tuning there was to get it to the correct level. People that have them swear by them and apparently maintainance is easy and quick too. Looking forward to part 3. Take care and stay safe. John
I've setup many tanks but always canisters and HOB's. My wife and I are setting up an aquarium with discus so that will have a sump. I'm surprised you didn't clean the sump first. But with water in it, the glass looks better.
I was so nervous getting my first sump, was sure it would be a disaster hehe. Youre definetly lucky to have someone comming and showing you how it works and doing all the testing and set up for you. Tank looks great
Thank you!! Yes, I would have been so nervous setting it up on my own. It needed two people to set it up too for the plumbing, I would have been lost 😂
Looking great Katie! I’m so happy I have a drilled tank! My OCD does not do well with “clutter” on the outside of my tank. However, I’m not ready yet to run a sump. Add to that I only have a 60 gallon tank, so it would seem a bit of overkill with the chance of flooding. If and when I get over 100 gallons I will reconsider. I am now hooked on drilled tanks.
I'm loving how everything is hidden. It felt so good putting the heater in the sump instead of running it into the fish tank and having it look all bulky!
I have a 125 with three high end canisters doing the filtration and a 120 gallon acrylic with a 40 breeder converted as a sump underneath. The sump filters better, and I believe it is safer from leaks than other filters.
This is interesting. I just picked up a 75g this weekend on 50% off sale. I thought I could replace a 40g and use that as a sump. It doesn’t seem cost effective though. So I still live vicariously through you in the world of large tanks. lol
Sweet! Gonna be an awesome tank. I have never had a sump. I may have to buy or maybe build one. They kind of scare me. I have heard they can flood your house if not properly tuned.
On your next tank try a beanimal overflow- it uses a full siphon, part siphon (like you have with a 3rd emergency overflow. It has massive amount of redundancy and is dead silent. There’s a couple of channels with good example of why they are good..
I’d remove the filter sock holders and add a filter roller. The D-D Clarisea filter roller is what I have and it works like a charm. I know theres a company that sells a kit that helps you remove the glass and silicon from the filter sock area but you really don’t need it.
Fantastic video, loving watching your journey with your new tank and sump system. I find sumps so confusing lol. Looking forward to the next video. Will you at some point in the journey going through how to water change a sump system? I'd be terrified to do it lol. Top tier, keep on keeping on.

Here is a tip for magnetic glass cleaners ,buy a box of generic ultra thin magic erasers non scented I get mine on Amazon and put it on inside of tank between your magnetic cleaners , guaranteed to keep magnet from scratching tank.
Ufff, so in one of your earlier videos I said yo should do a sump ... and yet here you already had one setup. It is a great step up from canisters, is it not?
I think 🤔 that your sump should have sucks as mechanical filtration and you could put Matrix of seachem at least 1Lt .it helps to reduce ammonia, NO2 and NO3 if your tank will have a lot of fish. I tasted before (Matrix) that I'm sure this product reduces those (ammonia, NO2 and NO3) I hope these advices help you a lot
@@Kaityscichlids I been in 10 years hobby in salt water fish and still going on Love those fish..awesome creatures I never feel maintenance is difficult and high rang
Those Chinese bio tubes are not particularly good. If you can afford it try replacing them with biohome, or maxspect. Cheaper alternative is pumice which also helps to raise PH.
Personal opinion. Canisters are way better for freshwater except you cant hide your heaters. Sump are pretty useless for freshwater and too expensive to hide just a heater.

Consider adding biocenosis baskets to your sump to convert nitrates and phosphates.
