Zagreus is a real mythological god, in some stories he’s the son of Hades, or IS Hades, in the Orphic tradition, he’s the previous incarnation of Dionysus, the son of Zeus and Persephone, who Hera got the Titans to kill/eat alive out of jealousy, Zeus kills them with a lightning bolt and from their ashes humanity is born, with the divine spark of a soul from Zagreus and a mortal body from the Titans.
There’s lots of stories and versions, but the uneaten heart gets recovered and reborn into Dionysus as we know him, complete with his own followers, including the Maenads, women who tore apart and ate living animals and people with their bare hands.
Lots of stuff about Dionysism and Orphism isn’t known, but the mysteries were said to have been written by Orpheus, they worshipped Persephone and Dionysius, and they believed that humanity is cursed by the original sin of the Titans ripping Zag apart and were cursed to endlessly reincarnate unless they could atone through good deeds

the rings and gems on Hades's design is because Hades is also the god of wealth and riches

Megaera is the Fury, not to be confused with Megara, Heracles’ first wife, a totally different lady, though I think the creators chose a not dissimilar kind of voice from her famous depiction

Yes it is possible to beat the game from the very beginning, the devs even included a dialogue change for that specifically. It's very hard though and rely on luck too because you basically need a specific setup that's really annoying to get, and get it early enough, before the game becomes too hard.
I haven't succeeded to do that myself, although I've only tried a couple of times, but I have done slightly over half of the game before failing in my best run. I never succeeded in getting the correct setup so I had basically lost my health little by little and died quickly after a boss. I've finished the game without using any god's help though. But that's easier.
edit: Wow I've literally never seen that dialogue with Artemis about Meg. I've done over 400 runs, maybe 500 by now and I'm still discovering new dialogue. I guess this is an early game dialogue that can only be obtained after you met Meg but before you killed her the first time (or maybe you can obtain it later after dying to Meg, but when you progress you get stronger so dying to Meg almost never happens). On the question of how much different dialogue, after 200 runs most of the lines are more generic and repeated (although there's still variation) but you still regularly get new ones. Now I'm at 300 and new lines are rare but I do get one every few runs. Overall you can easily do over a hundred runs and have most of the dialogue still being new.

Yeah, there's a Hades 2 already announced a while back with the protagonist being Melinoë, Zagreus' sister. Honestly super looking forward to it after watching the reveal trailer.

@@calxiyn For what it's worth, the trailer for Hades 2 does not spoil Hades 1, not the ending nor even the start of the game or any character. I don't think you even see a single character in common between the entirety of Hades 1 and Hades 2's trailer beside Hades himself. They're keeping their cards very close to their heart with this one xD No doubt we'll see old characters in the second game mind you, but they're not in the trailer.

no, i think many game devs genuinely don't know the difference OR know the difference and use roguelike in this way because it's widely misused like that and it makes it easier to understand for most people. if you're someone who knows the difference you're aware of the widespread misuse anyway, so it's not really that confusing. just makes it hard to find actual roguelikes on steam, lol

@@Warwipf The reason is because the meaning of both rougelike and rougelite has changed substantialy.
Imo, calling it a rougelike confuses nobody, and most people don't care or know the difference between lite/like, they know just about what they're getting anyway.
A game where you progress little by little (usually), get upgrades during the run that disappear when you die and often you can make more permanent upgrades at base.
^ that's basically how people view rougelike/rougelite, the destinction between them is imo very unnecessary.
