      what matters is to have the balls to play thight over time. that is the balls to be nr 3 and to make money. The gamblers come and go, but the grinders stay in the game by taking ego out of it. In reality the numbers is always the same, and randomness makes people belive in luck. In the long run there is no luck. The clever player never gambles and always try to get a 2-3% edge.

    This is a solid video, ive been playin alot of hold em lately. Well, winning solid amounts money online, in large tourneys mainly. I feel like i kind of naturally understood how and when to bluff. Like, u definetly want the pot to be heads up, and u play the board rite, like when something hits the board that makes u seem stronger. Like the board pairing on the turn. Or the 3rd card to a str8 or flush. Thats when i will make a solid sized bet. Obviously, u can and will get called sometimes. But theres a feeling i get about when to go for it. And theres also times where its ez to fold because my best draw, based on my hand is like a single pair. Things like thay, i could elaborate way more. But basically theres a time, when u assume this guy doesnt have it. And theres times when u get check raised and gotta let it go.

      It's a common thing I see opponents do, especially in live games. Poker is not a game about making hands, it's about beating your opponents in every situation over the long term.. with both weak, strong, and middling hands. Often, the most profitable path to doing this is via fold equity.. which requires well-timed bets and raises. GL in your progress as a player!

    Since you brought up chess, does watching and analyzing professional poker players improve their game like it does in chess significantly? Also in chess when I play against weaker players I tend to play unsound gambits but tricky openings for a quick win (in time or in position) , If I know my opponents are newbies (you can see people's stats in online poker) should I play very aggressively or does it not matter?

      Hi and thanks for the comment!
      1. You can definitely benefit from watching really good players. Just keep in mind that it's hard to find good players on TV. Finding a successful player on Twitch is much better.
      2. Against newbies, you generally want to do the opposite in poker. Avoid fancy plays and just value bet your strong hands, bluff your weak hands when they seem uninterested, and give up quickly without 2-pair+ if they are playing aggressively. Of course, I am speaking generically, it does depend on the newb.. make sure you adjust according to the way they are playing. Just play level 2 and selectively aggressively and you will be fine

  • @emanuelastacio9466

    I have a question. If your opponent is an aggressive player do you play passive because usualy you should behave the opposite or it should prevail the killer instinct mindset and behave aggresevely anyway?

    • @brucelee5576
      @brucelee5576 2 роки тому +6

      Like most things in poker it depends, but a general rule is it your facing a ultra aggressive and loose player you might want to open up your range and catch him not just with your strong hands but your sometimes not so strong but still good hands, you may lose some but in the long run you will dominate him.

    Do you have a different strategy when playing live - without software / HUD - or any pre-knowledge of opponents at the table, against starting presumed opponents of at least level 3?
    Likely any person would have to play at least 50+ hands to get a baseline read on how any one opponent plays, and adjusts.

    • @AutomaticPoker
      @AutomaticPoker  6 років тому +5

      I haven't played live much. However, in my experience, 90% of live players are either fish or weak tight. I'd assume people are loose-passive then adjust those reads as I go. I'd recommend tightening up your opening range and instead look to see a lot of flops with hands that have domination potential.. such as Axs, small pairs, mid suited connecters, etc. Basically small ball the crap outta them. Other than that, just play good poker as always.

      Honestly, ABC poker will defeat your average live player. The only times I've ever found myself playing laggy style poker live is during those big buy in tournaments, which tend to attract the online players and non-local players. Players tend to be more cautious since they've bought in for and can win meaningful amounts of money and don't want to look stupid or go home early as a result.

    I normally play with around 5-6 friends with 2 of them being very aggressive and the rest being more passive. How should I play at this kind of table?

    • @AutomaticPoker
      @AutomaticPoker  4 роки тому

      Seat selection is probably the most important thing you can do, if possible. But, it depends on what kind of aggressive guys they are. If they are 3-betting a lot, I'd want to sit to their left. If they are just opening raising a lot and being aggressive post-flop, I'd want them to my left.
      Without a lot more details, it's hard to advise you otherwise. But in general, try to play more hands against the passive guys and tighten up slightly against the looser more aggressive guys.
      I'm assuming this is a live game, so just be more selective than everyone else in what hands you play and the profit will tend to take care of itself. Look to play like 25% of hands, because I'm sure they are all playing like 40-50% of hands, right?
      Check out my pre-flop charts, you may find them helpful: automaticpoker.com/strategy/free-poker-preflop-range-charts-with-printable-pdfs/

    I some what disagree with needing to have software -- I do a little coaching (not pro) -- I have played on and off for 12 years and have been lucky enough to be able to jump in the fray and run up and bankroll everytime. I have had the trials for them and checked the graphs to see me running 25 buy ins below EV and still winning haha ^^
    I think the most important thing for a beginner is opening ranges - reducing calling ranges and when playing online specifically zoom/swap or whatever - is that your playing against the field and not an individual. If you have AA - and the boards 7,8,9 with 2 callers. Expect to fold this hand often - your never going to be happy raising, or getting called, or calling down. The power of aces (and I don't care what pros say) is the concealment of the hand and being able to trap a big pot. If you can't do this, I'm not interested. So if the flop checks to me and I bet and get any resistance I'm done. I don't care about this hand, move to the next where there is implied odds.
    For beginners watching pros they feel like they need to hold onto any equity in every pot. This isn't true on micros - implied odds far outweigh everything - I'm not saying don't take direct odds on a draw of course. Or get full value from AK when you flop it. I'm also not saying don't 3bet bluff from SB with QK off .... however look primarily for spots with implied odds at micros and dont hero call down a pair of 7's because you feel this player might have AK on a J,10,10 board.
    The HUD I think really messes up beginners - as they underestimate opponents. My HUD while I had it showed me as a 20/17 with 12% 3 bet and likely looked very aggressive - however if a beginner read that as I'll give them value or triple barrel bluff often - they will go to value town. On very close analysis I'll over fold turns in 3bet pots for example -- however I can afford to do that 2/3 times and stack the 3rd and be profitable.
    Opening ranges - aggression - fold equity and just learning how to fold top pair is the things I cover with people first. (Not being nitty folding everything obviously however calling mistakes on lower - mid stakes is by far the highest leak - start by plugging that, and then work on when to value bet)

    • @AutomaticPoker
      @AutomaticPoker  5 років тому

      I agree that it is not necessary to have a HUD, but in order to study your own play.. it really helps to make used of the software tools available out there.

    • @jasonhounsell3297
      @jasonhounsell3297 5 років тому +1

      AutomaticPoker I don't disagree and I know the majority of regs on all limits have it now a days - The reason I say that is because every video online now focuses almost exclusively on HUDS.
      When your playing with regs however without a HUD you get a good idea of how they play - especially on smaller sites.
      For example on 888 there is a few regs who I will 4-bet bluff much more frequently than others because we have history - I'm sure their stats will be solid and they are not getting out of line, Except against me I know they do more frequently - my default isn't to 4 bet Jam AK however against them I would - the HUD really doesn't tell you that.
      If I was being honest though - another of the biggest problems beginners have and I've seen this many times - is they don't understand variance - which is normal because they don't have experience - however they will run good, then will blame everything on luck when they stop winning and call of QJ for 3 barrels on a Q,7,5 board.
      You should do a video on beginner variance - so many say "I'm unlucky, I'm running bad" when they just play terrible.

      I agree about tells. People think you need a good 'poker face'. That isn't true at all. I show emotion all the time but good luck figuring out what that means as far as my hand. I had people tell me that i was bad at poker but that i was hard to read. I had a lot of people tell me i was bad at poker LOL.
      There is a certain kind of mid-level player who thinks they are a lot better than they actually are. It was my job to piss them off and i took it seriously. I think i was the most likely person to get assaulted outside the casino. But it was so much fun. If you made any kind of un-orthodox play and won a hand that would make them angry. I spent a lot of thought into the most unorthodox things i could do that were actually mathematically or strategically sound. I ended up playing every single hand on the button. They had no concept of position.
      I remember i won a hand with some garbage hand on the button and one of these mid-level douchebags asks me 'You play those hands'? I looked at him and said 'sure!'. An actually good player correctly pointed out that it was my button. I was like 'shhhh'. :)

    Regarding number 5 ”tight is right”, it amazes me to see, how often multi tabling regs at the lowest online stakes complete fail to adjust to a maniac, who is raising with half the deck. They just continue to fold all the time rather than getting in there and getting after this guys money.
    Which I then do, resulting in me often busting him, before they finally get a hand, they deem strong enough. Its fine to have default ranges, but if someone is just splashing their chips around, a hand like AJ become a pure 3-bet or even stack-off for value.

      This video is good. I was preparing to make fun of it. Position is still underrated. In my opinion in a lot of situations you should play every single hand on the button and nearly no hands in first or second position. Also second button is very underrated especially in a full game.
      I think you would do better to play purely by position and not take your cards into account at all preflop than you would to only take your cards into account and not position. You would win more and lose less.

    1. Dont bluff alot.....
    2. Take note on what hands poeple like and ones that fold.. ranges
    3. Practice pot odds
    4. Play unpredictably call or check alot....
    Playing to simply gives the game away....
    If you check or call alot your not giving signs of a good hand.
    Practice odds and probability
    EV and Pot odds
    Ranges
    Best start hands
    Worst Hard hands
    Betting in 10%/20% of the pot is more in the with pot odds Vs EV

    I bet on horses and I never say I am gambling. I am investing as any money I may lose will eventually return to me with interest. If you walk into a casino or card room with the mind set that you are gambling then you are subconsciously tapping into the good and bad luck of the people in it. Change your mind set and let leave luck to the gamblers.

      Betting on horses is gambling

    • @eponaswift7200
      @eponaswift7200 5 років тому

      Life is a gamble in every aspect of it. Just like everything is a pyramid scheme. To real horse players just like poker it is more strategy than luck. And people who take time to study the world of horse racing and betting strategies just like top poker players will win more than they lose. When I was taught the mind set of letting go of the luck concept in gambling I started getting really good at winning more when I was playing poker in 2015-2016. Then my life turned and I became involved in politics. Talk about gambling! So now I am back to focusing on poker. Much better odds then politics!

    • @fromage77
      @fromage77 3 роки тому +2

      You are gambling lol, even worse you aren’t gambling on yourself! Games of skill like poker are still gambling, but your fate is in your hands more or less... betting on horses and thinking it’s an investment might be the dumbest thing I’ve heard all year.
      Nothing wrong with betting the horses for the fun and thrill, but don’t try to delude yourself that it’s a smart financial investment lol.

      That type of thing will happen in clusters. I've played millions of hands and experienced some things they would surely make almost anybody believe in luck. But the fact is, luck is a very short-term thing and over the long term it won't make one person or another win more money than the other nearly as much as the difference in skill will.
